  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've owned my Genesis for about 4 months now, what a fantastic car. Except in the past month I've noticed a lot of back pain after 1hr+ driving, no matter how I adjust the seat? I don't recall this happening when I first got the car, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Is there a "protocol" for seat adjustment? Is it better to sit as upright as possible or lean back?

Google is your friend.

The seats have been pretty highly reviewed, especially in the Tech and Ultimate versions.

Like ksoze says Google is your best bet when it comes to back pain advice. You should always sit up straight though

Went up to 4 hours with no problems, maybe consult a MD or Chiro?

I've been 20+ with no issues. Key for me has always been changing positions slightly every few hours.

Time to see a Doctor and have that back looked at ...... These seats are the most comfortable seats I have ever had... I'm an old fart and I've had more cars then I care to talk about :)

try the seatback more upright than you think you need. I have noticed I sit more upright in this car than others I've had in order to avoid low back pain. Not sure if it is something odd with the ergonomics but once I found a good position comfort has been excellent.

It's the seats in the Base/ Signature, they are not very comfortable for long drives. Those Tech/ Ultimate upgraded seats are the ONE THING I wish I had on my 3.8 Signature that I do not have. The other stuff I can live without. Other than that, the Genesis is a joy to drive.

The OP has an Ultimate, so that's not his issue. I have a Signature, and while the Tech/Ultimate seats are certainly better, the seats in my car are fine. I don't have the cushion extender, which I did have on my Azera. That was pretty nice, but the Azera was the first car I owned that had that feature.

It could be a problem with the seat adjustment. My seat recline did not adjust properly and the dealer needed to reprogram it.

Sounds like you may have a lower back problem. I have the base Genny; with the multitude of adjustments and the air bolsters in the sides and back, I have no back problems at all with road trips.

However, I do have arthritis in my hips that make me wish for less firm seat cushions. I traded in my 2013 Avalon because the seat was so hard that I could not drive an hour without being miserable. (I really liked the car other than that issue). Even having a custom upholster "soften it up" did no good. The Genny is more firm than I like but does not cause any real discomfort.

In all honesty you have probably the first post complaining of poor seat comfort of the new Genesis. Some posters have gone to the extreme of trading in relatively new Genesis cars for the comfort of the new ones seats. I have driven at stretches of 15 hours at a time and haven’t found any problems with the new seats. Would be interested in hearing about what car you thought did have acceptable seating comfort.

I went to the Detroit auto show last year and sat in A LOT of vehicles priced anywhere between $20K-$100K to compare features, seats, etc. to determine what I wanted to buy. Prior to the auto show I was considering getting a CPO Lexus, Audi or Acura, but I went completely open minded and knew absolutely nothing about the Genesis at the time. I left thinking the Genesis was the best car for the price and its seats were the most comfortable of any I sat in that day.

I think it also depends on your weight. For us skinny folks with less 'personal padding' these seats feel like sitting on a wooden plank after an hour. The 2012 Genesis seats were better.
I'm thinking of going to a seat upholsterer to change the springs.

I bet you never sat on a wood plank for a hour then lol. I don't even know how much more cushion you would need to make it comfortable if your comparing it to wood plank.
