Bad disappointment for Genesis Coupe fans. It will be delayed. The new president of the Hyundai Motors said the new 2015 Hyundai Genesis will basically be delayed by two years, Keith Griffin reports from TorqueNews.
That's the word from none other than Dave Zuchowski, the fairly new president and CEO of Hyundai Motors America. He shared the info during the launch of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis in Paradise Valley, Az. We can't share info about how that car performs because of an embargo.
But we can tell you that Zuchowski said the next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe would debut in 2016 as a 2017 model. Of course, execs can't discuss future models in detail, so there is no info what it will be like when the new coupe debuts.
Of course, there is some hope the next-generation Genesis Coupe will have all-wheel drive because the sedan offers it in the form of the AWD system known as HTRAC, significantly broadening Genesis appeal in Snowbelt regions throughout the U.S. This system, according to Hyundai, has a wider range of torque distribution variability than many competitive systems and has been tuned to variable conditions such as straight-line acceleration, medium- and high-speed cornering, and hill-starts. All modes are programmed in concert with Genesis’ Intelligent Drive Mode select.
No word, of course, on what the powertrain offerings might be for the 2017 Hyundai Genesis Coupe but wouldn't it be sweet to see the new 5.0-liter V8 that sits in the new Genesis sedan be dropped into the Coupe? That would be a tire shredder on par with anything the Corvette has to offer and would just decimate the Ford Mustang.
Based on information shared at the Genesis sedan launch, expect the next generation Genesis Coupe to have softer lines as part of the evolution of Hyundai's fluidic design philosophy.
