I need new tires on my 2010 Genny Sedan, I want a more comfortable and softer ride than the OEM Dunflops, looking at Michelen mxm4, Continental ext. cont. dws and Bridgestone Serenity plus. I need all seasons and help.

Tirerack.com has a new test video on these which can give you some info.

I have a set of Bridgestone Serenity Plus with about 19000 miles on them and can say they are the best riding and smoothest tires I have ever had on any car. I have had several Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, and Kelly and this Serenity plus is best for ride imo. That said, I just put a set of Cooper Zeon RS-3a (check consumer reports and Motortrend on these http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/1210_tire_test_cooper_tires_zeon_rs3/) on my Mercedes and they grip like velcro even in the wet and give a smooth ride but not as good as the serenity. The Continental DWS is also a good choice.

+1 - I just put on a set of Serenity Plus to replace Conti DW's, which had become extremely noisy. The Bridgestones are great - good ride, good handling and QUIET.

I have 2010 Genesis 4.6 with 26,000 miles and on my third set of tires. The OEM Dunlap's lasted 13,000 miles then got very loud. The next set were P Zero Nero's which got noisy after 10,000 miles. I now have the Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires, drove to Florida 1672 miles and they are very quiet and disiplined...I think they are the answer to my problems. Very nice tire but were hard to locate in December 2012, on the east coast.
Highly recommended, so far.

I've posted this before on a different thread, but since you asked here is what I bought for my Genesis.

I had a hard time with a thousand dollars for tires, so I did a little looking around for what was available.

My searches lead me to General G-Max 03 AS ZR18 tires. The Continental tire company bought General back in the late 90s along with Uniroyal and continues to manufacture tires under those brand names.

The bottom line is I purchased these tires (General G-Max 03 AS ZR 225-50-18) for $574 delivered to the door from http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...018638&yr=2011.

General G-max 03 AS comes with a 45 day Customer Satisfaction Trial. If you don’t love them they will replace them.

I live in Florida so my main concern I wet and dry traction, quite smooth ride and a good preforming tire at a reasonable price, but they also perform well in light snow.

I have had these tries since June of 2012. The tires have about 7K miles on them and I’m very satisfied with them.

IMPO for half the price and a 45 day Customer Satisfaction Trial they might be worth a look.

I think the cooper's come with a 30 day return policy. Gmax was a tire that I looked at also, but noise factor from threads online pushed me in a different direction.

I put on Pirelli Nero Zero tires and have put 50K on them and they are just now wearing out. Original only gave me 25K.

got 44,000 on my first set of Serenity tires on the Genny. originals (Dumflops) only gave me 18,000 miles. Now have over 80k on the 2011 4.6, best car ever and I also own a BMW and a Mercedes.

I got 30000km (20000miles) out of my dunlops. By that time, the dunlops were noisy (almost 'thumping") so I replaced with Bridgestone Turenza serenitys. I wear hearing aids, so noise is a very important consideration for me (no matter how expensive or computerized hearing aids are, they are just fancy amplifiers - loudest sound wins). The Bridgestones are very quiet and have "kept" the smooth ride of the genesis.
I recommend them.
I now have 24000km (15000 miles) on the serenitys and they are still as good as new - quiet, smooth, etc.

We now have 24K on the origional Dunlops on the 2010 sedan. They are very noisy, which is high on my list for my next tire. I gather the Bridgestone Serenitys are quiet. Any others proven quiet over time? Are the General's still quiet?

I've had these three sets tires on my 4.6 Genny in the last 60 days. Here are my short results. You can read full reviews on Tire Rack for each brand.

All three sets were purchased at Discount Tire in Auburn Washington. Kudos to the techs for putting up with all my exchanges. They were very professional about addressing my concerns.

Set 1: Continental Extreme DWS

Smooth tire. Very quiet. Great in wet weather. Sidewall a bit loose if pushed too hard in the turns. Had a bad radial pull to the right. Exchanged for set 2 after approximately 400 miles.

Set 2: General G-Max AS03

Very solid tire and great in the rain. Great looking tread pattern. A bit noisy though. Much noisier than the Continentals. Good looking tire. Solid in the turns. Radial pull to the right. Exchanged for set 3 after approximately 500 miles.

Set 3: Bridgestone Turanza Serenity PLUS

Very smooth very quiet after initial break in around 300 miles. Getting quieter as miles are logged on. Great in the rain and solid and confident in the turns. But best of all, no more radial pull to the right. These are keepers and they look great on the car.

All three sets were driven at higher than normal freeway speeds and they all performed well with no vibration.

I might add that I did have two alignments to try and correct the right pull. The alignments were done after tire Set 2 was installed and the problem still existed until the Bridgestone's were purchased.

I drove a 2012 3.8 Genesis as a loaner for two days while my car was in for service and it had the Michelin Energy Saver AS tires on it and those were exceptionally quiet and very smooth. No pull at all. I looked into the price of those at Discount Tire and the price was at least 400.00 more than the Bridgestone's. Your prices may vary upon location and dealer.

Love my Turanza tires. 26K miles and look and feel great.

I now have 35K on the origional Dunlops on my 2010 sedan. Still extremely noisy, but still have tread left before reaching the wear indicators. I've read a lot about tires the last week or so, and am thinking of trying the Nitto Motivo. Good reviews with a 60K expected tread wear life, and folks say it's very quiet. I was wondering if anyone has tried this tire, since it's fairly new?

The newly introduced Michelin pilot sport A/S 3 is receiving rave reviews from the automotive press. It's categorized as an "Ultra Performance All Season" and is replacing the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. It's available in July and will be on my short list for new tires as my OEM Michelin Energy Savers start to wear (still lots of tread at 27K on the Energy Savers but I'm eager to have a more aggressive tire).

Hey Vince
I also have the Michelin Energy Savers and they are OK by me but would like to stiffen the ride a bit. What tire pressure are you running and how is your ride, handling, etc.?
Thanks
Raynman

Raynman I'm inflating at the recommended level of 33 psi (found on the driver's door pillar) and, as you well know, the ride is very smooth and comfortable. I owned the 2010 prior to the '12 and it had the older spring/damp rate equipped with the ultra high performance Dunlop 5000 M and the ride was a little too stiff for my taste BUT it handled and braked exceedingly well...just the everyday noise and unforgiving nature of the set up was a bit much for me. I'm looking forward to either the Michelin Pilot Supersport summer tire or the Michelin Pilot sport AS3...the AS3's will probably be less firm. Read the reviews of the the Supersport on www.tirerack.com and you could easily believe these tires could "walk on water"! The reviews are that good.

Thanks for the reply Vince
I have read the sport reviews and they are great! I've only got 14,000 on my Energy Savers. They are very smooth and quiet but would like better handling and rough road ride. I am inflated at 33 PSI also and was looking for a quick cheap fix. Maybe after I get the rigid collars installed it will address the rough roads and handling improvements. They should be here next week some time.

Because of all of the info on this forum, I decided to replace the OEM Dunlops with the Bridgestone Serenity Plus. Bought them at Tire Rack for $193 each and had them installed at a local Firestone. They were delivered to Firestone the day after I ordered them. Called Firestone for an appointment and by 10:30AM the next day I was on my way after a 45 minute install. So far, I really believe I made the right choice. Genny seems better then ever and she's 4 years old already.

Thanks Forum!!!

I suggest you go for 40lbs front and 36-38 in back... Or even more aggressive (but tire wear may be more in center), try 44lb front and 40-41 rear. This does not exceed recommended max cold inflation. The tires perk up very well at both. For a touring tire. Less squeal, faster turn in, much higher and more stable handling limits is what I experience.

Now, in the rain you will notice that at both pressures, the "tire trail" (in reae view mirror) has sucked up the water even across the tread.. Better at the lower setting above. Anyway, that tells you how the tire patch is working. I like them in the wet better higher inflated.

Rougher ride, but better than a sport tire or those horrible Dungflops.

I have a 2012 5.0 with the 18" Michelins OEM.

Try it and let me know. And do not fret about what someone hassles you about being higher than the door panel. That has nothing to do with safety in this case. As you may remember, the tire pressure fiasco with the old Ford Explorer. Too low tire pressure caused handling problems (though less roll overs due to poor traction) and exploding tires that were inflated too low with factory recommendation.

These V rated tires are designed to fun fast and higher pressures to reduce temps for tire durability. That is one reason they have the higher ratings for max cold inflation pressure.
