  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all.

I drove a 2011 genesis sedan and am considering it. Lots to like. One item I'm struggling to get past is the driver's seat. There's virtually no side bolstering. Given how firm the suspension is (and I'm guessing some beefy sway bars), I expected much more side bolstering. When turning right (in a somewhat spirited fashion), I slam into the door. No such luck when turning left.

Any recommendations on aftermarket driver's seats? (power, leather, heated)

thanks

I wonder if a Genesis Coupe seat will fit in the sedan?

Try wearing a seat belt. If that doesn't help, eat more cheeseburgers. The Genesis is big boy car. If you want a little boy car, get something else.

A properly placed dead pedal would help prevent this problem. The one in the Genesis is farther forward than the gas pedal, but should be level with it. It's unusable for me.

I like the dead pedal position. I think it is perfect. But everyone is a little different, so can't please everyone.

The seat has side air bags. So changing would be quite an undertaking.

Mark, you've never made me laugh until today.

+1 on the skimpy side bolsters. I wish they hugged some more. I don't have that much (ahem) built in padding to compensate. (grin)

Good Point.
I bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8 two weeks ago. Coming from a 2011 2.0T Sonata I really miss the bolsters in it. I have decided to drive the Genesis more stately than I drove the 2.0T.
I am not changing the seats though as my 300 mile monthly trips will make me forget the 2.0t.

Frank

Agreed!

I'm looking into getting some type of sport pedals anyway and hopefully it will help.

Please keep us posted! A local auto upholstery and custom shop told me they could build up the dead pedal for about $100. It's basically a carpet job. As I noted, the dead pedal is farther forward than the gas pedal. This is just not the way it should be configured. Each should be about the same distance from the driver.

I created a dead-pedal overlay of sorts out of three-quarter inch oak scrap. I made a template of the bolster at the far left of the foot well, and made the cuts with my jigsaw. I rounded the edges with a rasp and file, and painted it black to match my interior. It's afixed with strips of two sided tape. It looks great and adds a more firm feel under foot than just the original vinyl/carpet bolster. I'd post a picture, but the car's at the shop today getting it's ceramic tint applied. I can post a pic of my dead pedal dress up later if anyone's interested.

2 Sided tape hold the wood to the plastic/rubber dead pedal?

Next R-Spec better have Recaro-style sport seats. BMW-esque or Caddy V

^^^Nice job Mark. Though I have no particular problem with the dead-pedal, its much more comfortable than my old Subaru Legacy and wife's Tribeca. But I prefer to have my left leg stretched out, so I guess the deeper position works to my advantage.

YES...I would definitely be interested. I'm 5'8", and I find the dead pedal totally useless in the Genesis.

I can tell you for sure that the 2013 Genesis drivers seat is pretty useless if you need side bolster support. There are basically two types of support needs.

1. Side bolster support for sport driving. 2. More important is side bolster support if you have a spine which has been significantly altered due to multiple surgeries. The 2013 Genesis sedan seat is completely lacking this needed side support.

I really missed the ball big time by not realizing, and I should have realized this, that the seat doesnt provide the support that is needed due to spinal surgeries.

I have bought cars according to their seat designs so that I can drive more than 10 miles in them before my spine just gives out. The 1993-1995 SHO had the best seats on the market with electric side bolsters, not the small wings on a vette seat, but side bolsters that go up the seat and as tight as you desire.

I also found that the Lincoln LS seats were very supportive, thus I owned 3 LS's after the 1995 SHO seat was not avaiable. To improve the LS seat, you could bend the side wire supports in the bolster frame inward with no hassle at all. That made the seat narrower thus firmer fitting. I could drive my LS non stop for over 600 miles with the LS seats. Same with the SHO's seats.

Additionally, you could remove the lumbar metal plate from the back of the LS seat and that would allow you to increase the bolster depth by about 1-2 inches.

Now I am stuck, and not able to drive on any trips due to the Genesis seat. This is MY fault for not making sure the Genesis seat was supportive. I need help, and will gladly accept any help anyone out there can provide me. My life is very limited due to my spine, but now I cannot drive in a car that should actually allow my spine to relax with proper support.

This is a big let down since I bought the Genesis In July after selling my LS that was in perfect condition. The only reason I sold the LS is due to my health and the need to have a warranty due to my health. My Genesis has only 2000 miles on it. Again, my mistake!! Please help if you know for sure what I can do. Regards.
