If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

BH 2009 3.8L Sedan Let the Fun Begins

The #itch to modify exhaust for any performance gains and some roar.

Got playing with idea to fabricate a simple -sort of universal- #exhaust_valve to be welded while doing rear mufflers delete ... a way hoping to mantain ability of lower exhaust sound note when required/desired (Mrs hates it).

Net flow area (holes + circumfrence gap) when closed equals or exceeds a 2" straight pipe, so it doesn't harm much any gained performance -if any.

I know electrical controlled valves/mufflers are there, but I'm not putting hundreds bucks into a job that propably will be unused most of the time.

Take a look at Borla or Magnaflow exhaust systems if you haven't already.

> My goal is to open up air flow for release of any possible few hiding hp, while getting a little bit of that vrrroom vrrrrooom roar.

I Went with straight through 2" resonator matching stock piping diameter (generic, body size L16"x D4").

Stock piping was cut & connecting flanges fitted closer to oem mufflers location for easier access if I will want to put back oem mufflers any day. Finally I gave it a cleanup spray of high temp Alum silver paint.

>> Results:
- Exterior: sounds just good, a tid more louder than I had wished, but nothing thats too rice. Cold starts (video at genesisowners facebook group page) is louder but soon it quites down once warmed up. Idling is very calm, then she screams sexy when stepped on.
- Interior: At idle you can hear it's different from a stock sleeper, but nothing of a complain about. Some drone comes up when driving between 1600-2000 Rpm, not a very bad or vibrating-coins thing, but it's there. Then comes that hot wild scream from 2k-6k Rpm without any rasp or such.
- Performance: I went out for some drive and few street pulls. Nothing magical but I guess toward top end it felt kind off pulling some stronger. At low end it picked up same as before ... or a hairline less at points. Anyhow, may be thats all just in my head 😄, but that's the "feel of".

Overall the job put a good little smile to me while driving ... with that "wished if" of some crusing drone.

Cabine drone kill ...
Drone fear was the thing kept me so long from working on exhaust. And when I thought of doing it, to look for modding in an easily reversable way.
Then .. even with a careful approch in exhaust sizing (kept it 2" for the V6) .. drone did come up at lower-crusing rpms, and Gensis is my daily for commuting a 40-45min cruise back & forth each day🙄.

So I tried adding that parrallel dead canister (you can read on: helmoltz resonator) ... that 20230627_143404.jpgworked like a magic stick 🤩. Makes me fall in love all over again with exhaust mod.

Results ✅: Can hear engine roars outside ... no-headache driving drone inside cabine.

Bored ... with a HKS suprtflow filter in hand (left from my previous car setup) ... removed intake airbox and installed this directly on the MAF, with a home-made heatshield.

I can't swear to any inprovment of performance over my previous setup (k&n panel filter) .. but I'm very positive sure my exhaust sound tone had changed at above 2k rpm (deeper , more growl).

Wher did yoh get the catback iv been lookin everywhere. I have 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan 3.8 v6

the "cat" in that previous post was for the 'cats' in photo.

But for exhaust Catback , I had it custom fabricated at exhaust shop (2" S.S. pipes, secondary cat deleted, X-Pipe, and kept oem mkd resonator with muffler ... you can see detail in my other post)
