  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

BMW Guy here!

(snip)
It is definitely an amazing value for such a quality product and could very well be my next car. I only wish they had a shorter wheelbase version with a smaller displacement turbo engine, that would dominate the entire compact luxury/sport sedan category...

They are working on it. I am not as confident as you are about it dominating (a very competitive market); even if the car is good there is too much brand-snobbery, but they would sell a couple.

Hyundai is in the process of developing a compact RWD/AWD? sports sedan.

And Kia will have the production version of the GT concept out in 1-1/2 to 2 yrs, which will split the diff. btwn the Hyundai compact sedan and the Genesis (just as the K900 splits the diff. btwn the Genesis and Equus).

Finally had a chance to test drive an AWD Ultimate V6 today. It was a brief 10 minute drive probably about 6-7 miles total.

Overall I really liked the car. The most surprising thing to me was how light and agile it felt for a 4500 lbs luxury sedan with a very long wheelbase. I had a 2014 Bmw 535 diesel as a loaner for about 10 days and Genesis definitely feels more tight out on the road. It just felt like a quality product right away. I kid you not, doors felt more solid than the 5 series when I closed them. Craftsmanship in the cabin looks definitely on par with Bmw with soft touch materials all around. The only thing missing was the low end punch of a turbo but the car doesn't feel slow by any means. It just picks up and go in a calm and linear fashion with seamless gear changes. Even with the power loss due to the altitude here in Colorado, the car shouldn't have any problems merging or overtaking.

Hey Boulderado!
I'm another BMW guy headed to Hyundai. My wife totalled her 2003 530 in an accident (not hurt, not her fault). We looked at BMW, Audi, Subaru, Lexus and Toyota before looking at a Sonata. The Ultimate 2.0 Turbo was the best value for our money, and she LOVES the car. Her summer car is a 2003 Z4, which she'll keep forever!

Fast forward a month!
I've had a 2002 325, 2002 330 Cabriolet and currently drive a 2008 M5 (the V10 beast). My wife's Sonata drives more smoothly than ANY of these BMWs.
I test drove a Genesis 3.8 Tech. AWD and 5.0 Ultimate AWD yesterday and they were a great ride. I loved both, compared to my M5, and will probably get the 3.8 Tech as I'm sick of spending a fortune on gas and repairs. Yes, having an M5 is a great feeling, but, after 8 years, I've lost the thrill and want a car that is comfortable, full of tech toys and gives me value for my money. The Genesis gives me all that. I thought about the BMW 4 series, but to get all the technology found in a Genesis, it would cost another $25K, in Canada, over the price of a Genesis.

So goodbye BMW! (Except my wife's summer toy).

Welcome Canuck-Ottawa, and enjoy your Genesis!

Welcome to the forum Canuck-Ottawa! I pulled the trigger two weeks ago and got myself a 3.8 Tech AWD. I am really liking the car so far and would definitely recommend the switch. My 428 xDrive was getting around 31 mpg and so far the Genesis is getting 26 mpg (beating the EPA numbers) so if fuel consumption is a priority, I would definitely recommend the V6. I am pretty happy with the performance as well.

Oh and all the toys at this price point is just sweet. You can't get the cooled seats in a 4 series no matter how much you are willing to pay. I thought I wouldn't need/like the driver's assistance systems on the Tech package but Lane Keep Assist is one of my favorite features so far.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the 12 mpg I get with the M5 in the city and, if lucky, 26 mpg on the highway with cruise set to 60-65 mph! Those are based on the US gallon, not the imperial! Oil changes are CAD$360 because it uses 10 quarts of 10W60 @ $20-$25 per quart.

The only thing I'll take away from driving the M5 is using the paddle shifters all the time to slow down. With 8 years wear on the brakes, they are still good for another 18K miles! My M5 only has 27K miles on the odometer (I'm retired).
The M5 has cooled seats also, and that's something I must have in any future cars!

Anyway, I'll post when I get pics when I get the car.

Thanks! Rick
