  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brake Fluid TSB!

I was at the dealership today so they could diagnose bad parking sensor and service adviser told me that they just received recall information from Hyundai about brake fluid. He said that Hyundai re-designed brake fluid and it needs to be changed, or something like that. Check with your dealership.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Have my 2010 Genny in for service and they called me about this as well. Guess I'm getting new brake fluid. On top of that they are trying to tell me that there is a pulsing issue when braking which oddly enough I don't feel at all and yes, I'm well versed and would know if that was an issue. Service centers always make me wonder?

That might be why some have had brake failures. Brake Fluid with too low a boiling point will suddenly make your brakes disappear.

I have attached the first page of the Brake Fluid Recall TSB (too big to upload).
You can download it from https://www.hyundaitechinfo.com/
Just Login, Click on "Telematics info", enter you VIN number.
Look under "Recall Campaign History" (right under your displayed VIN Number)
You will see one item listed, the Brake Fluid Recall, click on "View" and the TSB will be displayed in PDF format.

The TSB has the follwong description:

Description:
This bulletin describes the procedure to replace the brake fluid for some Equus (VI) and Genesis sedan (BH) vehicles.
Applicable Vehicles:
VI Equus produced from July 13, 2010 to March 16, 2012
BH Genes is sedan produced from April 30, 2008 to March 28, 2012

Yep!

Got my notification too. Was told that Hyundai went to a DOT 4 fluid from a DOT 3. 15 degree higher boiling point.

My 2009 owners manual says:
FMVSS116 DOT-3 or DOT-4

So they may have used DOT-3 at the factory.

I had my brake fluid changed from DOT 3 to DOT 4 last week at the dealer when I had a new radio/nav head unit installed. Learned a lot about brake fluid options. DOT 3 fluid is pretty much obsolete for premium cars like ours. You Rspec guys (heavier cars, 19"wheels, lead foots) might want to investigate using DOT 5.1 brake fluid. No, not DOT 5.0 which is silicone based! Investigate using DOT 5.1.

Hmm. Thanks!

Okay, so it's a TSB, not a recall. Pretty significant difference.

I just relayed what my service adviser told me. And i cannot change title of the thread. May be mods will.

Would this be covered by our warranty or do we need to pay? I am having an oil change service this saturday and wanted to know :)

No charge for the TSB, which is mandetory that dealer perform next time car is in their shop for some other reason.

Although it is a TSB, they actually use the term Recall in their website. This is a mandetory TSB if the car is taken to a dealer for any reason.

Can someone upload the rest of the recall as an image please? I am on vacation, and do not have my VIN handy
The rest of the TSB is just the instructions for shop personnel to implement the TSB.

^ That is what I want to see lol.

Also, I asked if there were any open "recalls" and my service tech said yes. So a recall it might be lol

The terminology of recall and TSB is a little confusing. My understanding is that a recall is mandatory and all owners are notified. A TSB is usually only applied if the car is brought in for some other service or a customer complains. The HMA Service site lists it under recalls, but it is called a TSB, and I don't believe owners are being notified.

Regarding the instructions for draining and replacing the brake fluid, not sure why you are such a rush to see it, but I suspect you can wait until you get back home.

Found out today that the dealer can't verify the mileage for the reimbursement program with an open TSB. So, two weeks from today, I get new brake fluid and start the process for the debit card.

I received a snail mail postcard in Coast Guard Orange stating:

"URGENT/RECALLNOTICE"

Your Yr 2009 automobile is in need of correction to assure its
continued safe operation. You have been notified by your automotive
division of the existing problem but you have NOT taken steps to
have the correction made. We urge you to call for an appointment as soon
as possible.

So...They call it a recall and I was never notified until seeing it here on the forum and then getting the above postcard.
