  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On occasion, after starting car to warm up, I leave the car running and go back into the house. I notice the brake lights are on. Not every time. Thinking they will go off when I drive away, I go ahead to my destination. Of course, I don't know if they are on at that time. However, upon reaching destination and turning car off and locking. The brake lights are still on. Also noticed as driving, there is a auto brake indicator message just left of the D. This is not the indicator that comes on when you press the auto brake hold button, but a different one. As a solution, if the brake lights are on, I turn the car off then restart the car and everything goes back to normal. This is a 2010 that I purchased in 2012 and this is the first time it has happened.

Re: Brake lights always stay on UPDATE

Brake lights on again. Auto Hold warning light not on this time. Tried my stop start solution. Didn't work. on second try, I forgot to depress brake pedal when pushing start button. Car started anyway, whoa, what happened here? I then stopped engine and reached down to "juggle" pedal. That turned off the brake lights. Next time I started car however, the brake pedal seemed to high and hard. Car started and I continued on my way. Seems to do it when it gets colder. Living in Atlanta, that means not all that cold.

Could be a sticking brake light switch.

If it is, it should be a pretty straight-forward and easy fix.

There was a recall about a year ago regarding brake lights that were too sensitive, but not sure if that is your problem. If you bought the car used, they might not have your address for sending you the recall info. Call any Hyundai dealer and give them your VIN to see if there are any open recalls or mandatory service campaigns for your car. There is no charge for official recalls, even if out of warranty.
