  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brand new Coupe with paint issues

Talk with the owner of the dealership. Set an appointment with him and show him the paint. If your dealer is one of those corporate dealers like Rick Case then talk with the General Manager; if the GM does not help get his boss's name (territory mgr. for example) and how to contact him and then call the guy while you are at the dealership.

I talked with Corporate. I'm sure Corporate has talked to not only the Service Manager, but to the GM and the owner. AND, I'm sure the previous conversation I had with the "Deputy GM" MUST have been relayed to the GM. The GM is the son of the owner.

Sticking my neck out - I'll bet Corporate has their ducks in a row.

Don't count on any of the communication you think has happended. Show the paint to the GM and owner, someone that can make a decision. If you get no help then tell them to put it in writting and ask to see the delivery inspection reports for your car.

I emailed a response to the last email I received from Corporate. I asked for a representative to look at my car. Let's see where this takes me...

This first picture shows a dusty and hazy appearance in the paint. Note the scuff-like marks in front of the rear wheel well, above the skirt. Also note the vertical scuffing along the vertical door line. All of these issues are underneath the clearcoat.

This picture of the driver's side door panel shows a general dusty haze with straight lines and some swirling, probably from sandpaper. Again, all of this is covered up with clearcoat.

The white splotches on the lower door panel are bird poop reflections from off of my driveway. ;)

Picture 3 is showing a different angle of the driver's side door panel. The Hazy appearance you see below the "Z" line is not a reflection from the driveway.

The bird poop does add a certain "je ne sais quoi" to the photo. Maybe it's even symbolic of the shoddy craftsmanship done on my car. :D

Hyundai responded that they were advised that these repairs were caused by a defect and will be covered under warranty. Again, they encouraged me to schedule an app't with the dealership to have the needed repairs completed.

It seems that they DID know about the defect all along and didn't inform me. When I first inquired the Deputy GM - he didn't know ANYTHING about the so-called defect! hmmm...

They did not respond to my request to have a corporate representative to look at my car. I just sent YET another request to Hyundai Consumer Affairs encouraging them to send out a representative.

I don't know how much experience with body/paint shops but I do have a lot and a good paint shop can do the job well and it will be like the factory finish. Don't take anything less.

It appears Corporate isn't going to budge short of me going all the way to the top. Even then, I still have my doubts they will do anything other than do MORE body work over the EXISTING body work...

Whoever did this shoddy body work never removed the windows and seals. Note the tape line on the driver's side rear window seal.

Here's a tape line they didn't bother to remove from the inside of the drivers door rear panel. There are other issues with this so-called body repair. But, I think I've given a good example of the highlights...

It's a beautiful car, as long as you stand far enough away.

After looking at your pics, I'd say that it's worse than I expected. If I were you, I'd fire off that letter to the CEO and include high-quality prints of the most egregious problem areas. Make sure that the defects are clearly visible and that there aren't any other features, including reflections of stuff around the car, to draw attention. Experiment with different camera settings and lighting - easy to do with digital. Mount each pic on a sheet of paper with a clear description of the defect depicted.

I agree with you. As we both know, to get a good picture showing detail of a gloss finish, you will have a reflection. Yes, I can work to minimize them...
