  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased this item a few weeks ago, largely because of reading what users had to say about in this thread. It arrived this week and I was excited to show it to my family and install it on the Genesis.

Unfortunately, it wasn't received as warmly as I hoped, so long story short ... it needs to go. ;) (Apparently some people think the Genesis is a classy luxury cruiser, not a flashy sport machine! :p)

But all of that is beside the point. Since our car is Platinum Metallic, the spoiler was ordered with the corresponding paint code, AU.

This is the product I am referring to... I purchased it from the CARiD website. The total price comes to $217 + $27.99 s&h = $244.99 (+ tax in some states, not mine thankfully).

I am offering it for $175 including shipping to the first user to respond to this post and/or PM me, and successfully deposit money in my account (preferably via PayPal).

You might be wondering why I'm willing to lose $70 on the turn around here. Two reasons.

#1. CARiD's return policy, though quite good, does not allow for refunds on the price of paint added to custom items such as spoilers, wings, etc (due to manufacturers' stipulations). Therefore, I could eat the $80+ myself and return the spoiler to them no questions asked, or convert my loss to savings for another Genesis owner (and frequenter of this great forum). No-brainer if you ask me!!

#2. As a believer in full disclosure, I'd be remiss not to mention something we noticed with the spoiler. Even though it is clearly the correct part, is in perfect condition, and is obviously painted the "correct" color, it doesn't match our car PERFECTLY in terms of hue. The spoiler is ever so slightly darker/more silver-y, whereas the car is a little lighter/more gray-y. When you look at them side-by-side up close in direct sunlight the difference is noticeable in my opinion... decreased light or increased distance makes the difference essentially undetectable to the eye, even if you're looking for it.

This is not the reason we're getting rid of it; I had to give the rest of the family every opportunity to warm up to the idea by looking at it held in place on the car. The slight difference in color didn't help my cause at that point, lol, but I'm fairly certain someone who is very interested in this product will be undeterred by the coloration discrepancy in time. If it were my decision alone, I would be installing it myself. :(

To add to this... if you'd like another opinion about the color-matching aspect of this product, I'm fairly sure MarkF001, another member of this forum, purchased the exact same spoiler from the same website, so you could toss him a line.

Also, I'll try to take a picture of the difference as we see it and get it up here as soon as possible, if that would help.

With all that said, I offer no guarantee that you'll like the product. Also, if you want anything "better" than the cheapest shipping option I can find ;) (including insurance, etc), you'll have to let me know in advance and I'll add the difference in shipping costs to the $175 offer and we'll go from there.

Thanks for your interest!!!!!

This is a GREAT price for a car painted that same color.

This is an good price if someone has to get it repainted to their car color. Should not cost very much, but then again, what do I know, as I'm not in the business.

I have the exact same spoiler, and it looks great. When I looked up the site I ordered it from, that web address reverted over to the address (carid) that OBCT listed above.
In addition, the paperwork that came with the spoiler, has the exact website address of the company that made the spoiler. I'm not going to show the manufacturers website or phone number here, because OBCT's is probably less costly, even if you have to paint it.
I can't remember how much I paid, but it was more than what OBCT paid.

To anyone who intends on buying OBCT's spoiler, and get it repainted, I highly recommend that you first remove the tape from the underside before you paint. (read last paragraph below). New 3M tape is available at Advance Auto and probably other auto parts stores. Even if you have the same color, read the paragraph below.

When I fit mine, prior to removing the backing on the tape, I felt that the tips of the lip spoiler may be slightly too high, and that when washing the car, something might catch on those tips, sooo, I removed the tape (not easy to do), then I started to fit mine, adding tape to various places, little by little, until I saw that the tips would lay directly on the trunk, and with no gaps showing. (I.E., I did not have tape everywhere on the underside, as delivered). Once I was ready to stick it to the car, I cleaned the area of the trunk with Rubbing Alcohol. I then removed the red backing from the tape. Note; DO NOT TOUCH THE TAPE TO EITHER YOUR FINGERS OR TO THE CAR YET. Once you "think" you know where to place the spoiler to fit correctly, you may find out that it is slightly off, and once that tape sticks to the trunk, you will not be able to get it off. What I did was to get out my water hose, and wet the trunk, and wet the tape. Only then, with everything wet, did I place the spoiler on the trunk, sliding it around, until it was perfectly in place. Once in place, I put pressure on the spoiler to allow it to stick to the trunk (but because it is wet, it will not yet stick good). Next, I took a soft cloth and wiped the water from around the spoiler. Dried the whole area. Pushed down on the spoiler again. Made everything as dry as I could. Then I just let it air dry overnight.
The next day, I again pushed down on the spoiler, just to make sure it was sticking good.

I've been through many car washes, and I've never had problems with the spoiler.

BUMP!

This offer has nearly expired.

I'm shipping this thing back to CARiD early next week to recoup most of my purchase cost - that is, unless one of you snags it first. You only have the weekend to get in on this great offer!

Thanks to ctrcbob for offering his perspective on the item and the kind of value it represents. It is worth stating again that this spoiler at this price could be cheaper than you'll find it anywhere unpainted.

Cheers. :)
