  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brought home the R-Spec!

Sounds like a good argument to lease.

Possibly. But my perspective is that if a 2013 or 2014 R-Spec comes out with 450 or more HP, it won't make my 429 suddenly inadequate. It really is a state of mind - If I wanted ultimate HP in a sedan I would look toward the M5 or the 300 SRT (if I could even afford them). And if a newer RSpec does come out with increases, the 'hit' that I would take from resale is most likely negligible. Who knows - it might actually help make mine more desirable for use car buyers. And while each car depreciates at a different rate they all still depreciate pretty fast.

Cheers,
Newman

So the first two 2012's a local dealer gets are R-Specs, I went to drive one and I'm told one is sold and sorry the GM took the other for the weekend......

If I can't drive it I'm going for an Audi or Jag most likely not going to buy a car without driving it first!

I feel your pain buddy. My personal calculation was this: I was not going to find anything better for the value/money; I like sporty cars; there are only 1200 bound for the US; I wanted black which means at best there would be 600 available; and finally, I wanted a car that was not ridden hard and put away wet (e.g. GM, multiple test drivers, etc).

I therefore concluded that since I really wanted the car that I had best secure one quickly (without test driving). You may find that in a few weeks there are some to test drive or you may find that they are all gone. I wish you the best of luck whichever way you decide to go.

Cheers,
Newman

Newman, you should be receiving yours soon, right? Has it left SMH yet? On a scale of 1-10, how excited are you?

For what it's worth.....Just traded my 2011 Sonata Turbo for a Platinum Metallic R Spec. Take delivery tomorrow. Just read only 1200 coming to this country? Seems remarkably low but makes me glad I've done it. Beautiful car for the money.

11. It is on the truck en route! So - some good news and bad news. I had negotiated for the wing package but it only came in as the car was leaving. So they Fed exed it to me plus cut a check for $100. When it arrived today It turns out that they bought the wrong wing package. It was the one that is a huge oval and not the one that fits in the holes that the lazy h leaves behind. So I am bummed that I have to wait another week for the rear wing but very grateful that the dealership did not install this huge monstrosity ( my opinion obviously) on my car.

They did get the tinting done but I have not seen pictures of it.

The wheels and spoiler are sitting ready to go! I will be pacing in front of my house all weekend!

What a fun time in life! I know it is just a car but I feel like a kid again.

Cheers

Congrads!

Where are you located btw? There are only black ones in my whole state of IL.
So I just placed my order today for the same as your choice, From Pugi Hyundai.
Out of the five dealers I checked out Pugi was leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else.

I'm in NC. My dealer claimed they had a black one and sold it. Love black cars and would have tried to get one but don't like black on black. Is it really true that they are only importing 1200 of them?
Thanks

More recently I heard from somewhere ( I think on this forum) that the number will be closer to 1000 for this year. This is unsubstantiated so if anyone has a source they can reference it would be appreciated if you can share.

Thanks

Think about what you're saying. Less than 1200 and the dealers are discounting 5,6,7000? What does that mean?

Just brought the car home...love it! My salesman said that yes in fact only about 1200 are coming into the country this year. I certainly didn't get $7000 off the list, did get a fair deal however.

I just brought home an R-spec on Friday. I saw a post about this issue before, but couldn't locate it. On mine it really seems to hesitate from a dead stop. If I'm passing at highway speeds it's incredibly smooth and passes effortlessly. But from a dead stop I can smash the pedal to the floor and it kind of idles along for a good 2 seconds (not exaggerating) then the power all kicks in and it really gets up and goes. 0-60 in 5.1s seems impossible if I'm still under 10mph at the 2.5s mark. I'm not a fan of flooring it in a new car, but I had been coming out of lights at 30-40% throttle which is typical and I wanted to test it because it was really hesistating.

Is this part of the driver learning and transmission break-in or a real issue? I'm wondering if I have some crazy setting on. It came with about 200 miles on it and I've put 100 more so 300 miles at this time.

I haven't owned genesis sedan yet but sometimes it takes a while for them to "learn". Especially the hanging is given when your car came with 200miles of "test drives". Computer might still be confused on the driver's style. Also make sure this is your own ride and no one drives it. If it doesn't get it solved within 1k+ miles, might have to look into it though.

Not sure you live where I am but one sole black that I was planning to test drive was gone on the website. There are 1 grey and 2 plat R-spec though. I may have to compromise

Turn off your traction control, put your foot on the brake, ease in some power, release brake and simultaneously floor the gas pedal. You'll leave two black strips behind you about30-50-feet long, no hesitation. Warning-reduces tire life.

I don't even think you have to hold on the brake... I very easily kept the wheels spinning a good 20 to 30 feet with traction control off without applying the brakes . . . this car wants to run.

As far as initial hesitation, give the ECM/tranny time to compensate for your driving style.

I would say, though - give it a break as a new engine. Especially given the fact that the car had 200 miles of test drivers behind the wheel. I'd change the oil immediately and again in another 500 miles or so. After that, lean it out a bit and the R-Spec will more than deliver on power.

Congratulations Skywagon! I still haven't got the stupid grin off my face since bringing mine home. You'll find yourself offering to drive a lot more often now ;)

Sorry to hear about the wing package. I will say, that shows the general incompetence of Shawnee Mission Hyundai I experienced when dealing with them. They couldn't coordinate, played games and didn't know anything about the product they were selling; this was part of the reason I went elsewhere for my car.

If I were you, I'd order the new emblem (expedited shipping) have it installed, and send them the bill for the difference between the $100 and your costs. If they don't pay, consider posting on DealerRater.com (SMH staff cherish that rating when you speak to them).

The big question is - did you get it yet?

Newman,
If I read correctly you have new wheels for your R Spec. What size and offset are you putting on and do you know the offset of the original 19 inchers?
Thanks
