In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hello All.

So I have been wrestling with whether to buy a 2011 4.6 now at a good discount or wait for a 2012????

I could probably get a new '11 4.6 for $36,500-

Any help is appreciated! My brain hurts trying to figure this one out:(

Thanks!

Re: Buy a 2011 4.8 discounted or wait for a 2012?

Keep in mine that the 2011 4.6 has a german built ZF 6 speed transmission that has proven reliablity. The new eight speed made by Hyundai is an unknown, however with a 100,000 warranty that may not be an issue except for possible repair trips to dealer. Either way if Dunlops are on the new car try to make a deal that includes better tires.(check posts about tires in this forum)

I was having the same thoughts until last Sunday. Picked up a titanium on black 4.6 for a decent price figuring it was going to cost a lot more for the 2012. I've got a little over 200 miles on it and so far, so good. Replaced a 2003 530i that I bought new and the cost was less for the Genny now than for what I payed in 2003!

I'll have to agree with homeofstone. The stock Dunlops ride like stone. I appreciate his input on the Bridgestones and other tire comments found here.

I have been going through the same process. Made decision to negotiate for an '11 4.6.

I am in the same boat. I think that there are a number of factors to take into account---how long you intend to keep the vehicle; how much of a discount you receive on the 2011 and whether the features that are being changed are of interest to you. We have the "unknown" of the price and delivery date of the 2012 which I think is deliberately kept late to avoid impacting the 2011 price--my gut feeling is that this suggests that it is going to be little changed on price because if it was a significant increase that might aid the 2011 sales. Given the inevitable depreciation that accompanies a not insignificant freshening, any discount on the 2011 should be significant imho.

The price being offered to me is $36,499 including wing pkg and titnting, + $649 dealer fee, + tag and tax.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

If you choose a 2011 over a 2012, you'd only be missing out on the new exterior upgrades (bumpers, rocker panels, headlights, tail lights), the new (but untested) 8-speed tranny, an additional 43 HP (on the 3.8L, no change on the 4.6L), and some suspension/brake upgrades. As for equipment, here's the full list of options you'd also miss out on:

3.8:

Year-to-Year Changes for Genesis 3.8 Standard Equipment:
Headlight LED accents, daytime running lights (DRLs) and outside mirror puddle lamps added.

Year-to-Year Changes for Genesis 3.8 Premium Package:
Newly-developed power-folding outside mirrors and heated rear seats with console controls. For 2012, the 3.8 Premium package will also include rearview camera, DVD navigation system with seven-inch touchscreen, XM NavTraffic, and 18-inch Hyper Silver split-spoke alloy wheels.

Year-to-Year Changes for Genesis 3.8 Technology Package:
Newly-developed Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and thin-film-transistor LCD gauge cluster readout.

4.6:

I think all of the above 3.8 features are included in the 4.6 as standard equipment, except it gets the 8" nav with DIS knob.

Buy the 2011. You'll probably pay at least 8K more for the 2012. First of all, the exterior changes are not major, and don't necessarily make the car better looking. so what are you getting in the 2012? More horsepower? Where are you going to use it? The 4.6 with 385 hp is a bullet. For me, the only argument against the 2011 is trade in value down the road. Depends how long you intend to keep the car. Good luck.

Sounds tempting...

Is that price before or after any rebates?

A dealer near me currently has a 2011 white/cashmere 4.6 offered on their website for $37,500 that is really tempting me. If I could get them to come down to $36,500 AND get me the $1,500 competitive rebate too then I'd probably go for it! They've already told me that my current '09 Sienna doesn't qualify for the rebate, but I've had another dealer tell me they contacted their Hyundai rep and already have an exception for me if I'll buy something from them. I wonder if the dealer with the great price is just trying to keep the rebate for themselves.

I was in the same boat - waiting for the R-Spec, but the 2011 4.6 w/ Tech (Platinum with Cashmere interior) was a steal at around $37,000, so I opted to go that route. Yeah it would have been nice to get the R-Spec, but the savings on the 2011 4.6 was just too good to pass up.

Made the same move just 2 days ago. Black/cashmere 4.6.

Damn... those are some very impressive figures on the 2011 4.6. I think for the price, you can't go wrong with them. You're going to be paying alot more for the 2012 4.6, not to mention having limited availability. The exterior upgrades aren't major at all and don't necessarily make the car look better. Some of the interior upgrades are very nice though. But again, if those changes came as an option on your 2011 4.6 for $6000-8000 more, what would you do? That's the question you should be asking yourself. You're already getting $6000+ discount on a brand new 2011 4.6 as it is, when the 2012 4.6 comes out, they will be priced higher and it'd be hard to get a huge discount at least for awhile.

I'd say go with the 2011. I'm sure 2012 model will be nicer but I highly doubt it'd be worth the cost.

I've been following the Genesis very closely for two years and I made the decision a week ago today to go with the 2011. Just not enough extra on the 2012 to forgo the deep discount on the '11. BTW, just one week and I love this car!

I've read that the suspension is going to be a little bit different (in the 4.6). This is the main reason I might wait for the 2012. When I test drove the 2011, the ride seemed fine to me. Could any of you who have had the 2011 4.6 for a while comment on the ride? It would really help me make a decision on this.

In advance, thanks.
