Hello,

Today, after reading the prices paid forum on Edmunds, I thought I would try to get a steal on a V8 Tech package. I offered to buy it at 36,500 - they did not budge. They said they needed at least $39K. This is really out of my comfort zone anyway...so I think this is for the best. I was looking for a hell of a deal, and it just wasn't going to happen. So, maybe I need to look in the used market to fit my budget better.

I have found a used V6 Tech package with 9K miles on it for 34K. Would an offer of 31K be fair? Any advice?

There is not much out there about the value of this car used... I am sure the person trading it in took a bath on it anyways.

I took the V8 for a drive today. I absolutely loved the car. I have spent the last couple of hours lurking around your forum. Lots of good info.

Take care,

Bob
Maybe a Genesis is in my future.

It appears that the Genesis may be holding its value far better than any Hyundai before it. during the past year there has been very little in way of rebates and in some cases markups at a few dealerships. The Genesis is proving to be a fantastic automobile from reviewers and owners alike and this respect is not only helping Genesis but the whole Hyundai line up. My suggestion is to either wait another 6-9 months or bite the bullet and pay a little more. The Genesis is worth it!!

Bobby,
Try Fitzgerald Hyundai in FL or MD. Best no hassel prices I have seen. Don't know where you are but if you are Wast of Miss. it could be a way to go.
Regards, RBC

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I am located in Indiana. Thanks for the comments so far. I wish I could wait 6-8 months...my car shopping started back last year in September...my wife is ready to kill me.

I think I have become obsessed, and all I can do is think about it. I found a dealer that has a new one listed as a preowned. (which my dealer told me about - if he had bought one from a closing dealer, he would have to sell it as preowned and likely at a discount) I am going to call about it today and see if I get anywhere.

Anyone else buy a used V6 with Tech package?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,
I did the same amount of research as you, and finally bit the bullet on a V6 Tech 3 weeks ago. I couldn't be happier, even though I haven't gotten caught, I found one of the only things this car is missing is a built in radar detector. But, I digress. Through my research, I found that people were paying different (and sometimes lower) prices throughout the country. I'm in S. Florida, and negotiated to $37,200 with an out the door price of $39,013. I did not look at (or even know about) any used Genesis' (Genesi?) but I would think $34k would be good, and if you could negotiate down to $31k that would be even better. I will say by looking at Edmunds and ordering the package from www.fightingchance.com, I found that the dealer invoice of the V6 tech was relatively high and there didn't seem to be a lot of wiggle room, so I really applaud anybody who got a deal that was less than $36k.

Without knowing the history is it hard to say what is the right price.

If you are looking to spend around 34k, you should be able to get into a new v6

Studyaid,

Regarding radar detectors...

In my current car, Honda Accord, I have direct wired in my Escort Passport 8500 radar detector..

Pretty much any car that has a powered electrochromatic rearview mirror will have a real easy installation. In my Honda, I removed the overhead console, and found the 12V power wire and tapped into that wire. Whenever the mirror's power is on, the radar is on... when you turn off the ignition, the radar automatically shuts off.

I put my radar on the right hand side of the mirror out of the way.

No guarantees that this would work with a Genesis, but I bet it would.

Take care,

Bob

I just purchased a demo (never titled) V6 Premium Plus

It had 5k miles, and I got it for 31.5k. If you can get a V6 with tech for 31k, you'd be getting a hell of a deal. I walked out twice during negotiations. Good luck.

Is the car at a dealer or wholesaler? Probelem is Hyundai is unable or won't budge on the Genesis- even if it has been sitting on their lot with a date code over a year old! No sense.

If the car has 9000 miles, offer $31500.

Yeah, Hyundai wont budge much when it comes to the Genesis. They are trying to keep the resale value of this car up as much as possible. From positive reviews (many) and awards (TONS) , many people are wanting this car, which will further increase its resale value. Good thing to know for current owners.

Try: Cars.com
They list a lot of used Genesis and break it down by zip code.

Bobby, I noticed in my paper today an ad for the dealership where I bought my gennie. The ad is for a new gennie v6 listed at $36,130 with a "bunch off". Bunch = 4235 off and another 1900 off if you qualify as recent college grad, Hyundai loyalty, in the military. At any rate if you don't qualify, it is still a NEW gennie for < $32K, OTD (out the door). (You'd have to pay your Ind. taxes yourself.) There are 72 miles on the car. :D

If you are interested you can call the dealership (Arapahoe Hyundai) toll free at 866-385-1640 ask for Tim Powers...or anyone else if you prefer. Their website is http://www.arapahoehyundai.com/

They will deal I can assure you (and they have other gennies). [I'm not connected with this dealership nor Hyundai.....except for my gennie.]

Good luck, buddy!

Hello everyone,

The dealer has agreed to come down to 31,800, plus 275 dealer doc fee. (not happy about the doc fee)

I may go purchase the car this weekend.

Has anyone bought the extended Hyundai warranty that comes in varying levels that enhances the existing warranty? The car is coming from a Hyundai dealer, and I assume they are going to ask.

Also... the carfax says that the car hit a deer, and was fixed. It states that it was minor... I guess that is the only negative about the car..

It is an 09' V6 fully loaded with Tech package - 9K miles.

What do you all think? Thanks for your help all,

Take care,

Bob

No way...hit a deer = probably major damage.
Not too sure about that...I think the depreciation for a pristine 3.8 would take it down to that level by itself.
No go on the extended warranty.

The car fax says minor damage. The damage happened within 1 month of delivery. Gosh - that would suck. The guy had the car for 9 months. It already has wing emblems. This sound familiar to anyone? Maybe he was on this board - who knows. The car came from South Carolina.

Also, they said, the guy had replaced the tires when he got it, and before he sold back the car, put on the original tires...so the original tires should be in fairly good shape.

I saw that it said minor damage. I'm just suggesting that I can't see many scenarios where one hits a deer and it only causes minor damage. ;)

I'm also trying to envision a scenario where someone would sell the car after only 9 months that would not mean trouble for you...

I was told that the guy wanted an SUV...and traded for a Veracruz.

I guess there are a lot of variables involved...like, what if the deer was hit at a slower speed...sometimes you only catch a corner of your car... I could speculate all night. I guess I will have to go look at it.

Because of this damage, would you expect the car to be sold for even less?

Thanks,

Bob

Another Hyundai dealership nearby? If so, see if they will look at (full inspection) the car for you. May cost you a little. But would be worth the minimal up-front cost in the long run. Also, doesn't Hyundai have a certification process? Ask them if they would certify that car? If they do have certification and they won't do it, this may be a sign to leave the car right where it is!

That "Extended Hyundai Warranty" is not a Hyundai Warranty, but a warranty sold by dealers (at high profit). I.E. It is an aftermarket warranty. Hyundai's warranty is plenty good as it is.

The F&I guy at my selling dealership tried to sell me an "Extended Warranty" putting a lot of pressure on me (and my wife) to buy. I told him to go pound salt. These guys make a LOT of money selling these worthless warranties.
Because Hyundai's warranty is so good, no need to buy an extended warranty, however for those who buy most other brands, if you must buy an extended warranty, buy the warranty put out by the manufacturer, not an aftermarket warranty. I.E. If you buy for a Ford Product, make sure it is a Ford Extended Warranty. I see a lot of 'Extended Warranties" being advertised both on TV plus I get offers all the time in the mail, telling me that my factory warranty has expired or is about to expire. All junk and not worth the paper they are printed on. We had a TV expose (sp) here in the Orlando area a few months back on how these aftermarket warranties don't cover what you think they cover, plus when parts are changed, they install used parts, plus often, the warranty company goes out of business and you, the consumer is stuck, even if you purchased the aftermarket warranty at a dealer. Stay Away!

I can't remember what the standard Hyundai warranty is, on used Genesis', but whatever it is, it is better than the aftermarket warranties.

Unless things have changed recently, Hyundai's 10/100 powertrain warranty cannot transfer outside of the immediate household of the original purchaser. It drops to the 5/60 bumper-to-bumper from the original date of sale for used owners.

Frankly, no matter how clean the car is, you'll have to consider how long you intend on having the car. I'm not sure whether you'd want to buy used when the new model year is only a few months away. The differential is about $5000 between that used model with 9K and a minor damage history and something brand new, and it's likely that you'll see the remaining '09's get cheaper. Food for thought at least.
