  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car won't stop; Internal ABS Brake Module Fault $2,230

Finally, this morning an announcement was made on a local TV station in Baltimore, Maryland that there is a recall on 2009 Genesis regarding this issue! I had this issue with my car and after many complaints to HMA and USDOT, (The station said there weer 27,500 complaints) hopefully something is being done..
There were not 27,500 complaints. That number may represent the number of Genesis sedans which need the brake fluid change done.

Exactly, Mark_888 is right. It is the number of vehicles that MAY get affected by this recall. 2009 - 2012 models.

I AM VERY CONCERNED THOUGH. Some articles say it is that the faulty ABS Module is the problem and that is being recalled.

Some articles say it will be the BRAKE FLUID recall. I already got that in March 2013...

Hmmmmmmm.

Regardless, I am "THIS" close to selling this car and getting a new car... I guess I can't stay away from this company afterall, as I am "THIS" close to getting 2014 KIA OPTIMA SX TURBO with PREMIUM and TECH package in EBONY BLACK.

Oh well....

What I head is that the recall is to replace the brake fluid using DOT-4 with anti-corrosive additives, which will help prevent the ABS modules from corrosion and subsequent brake failure. At this time, I only have heard of them replacing the brake fluid, and Hyundai says that 60% of the affected vehicles already have had the brake fluid replaced under the existing TSB (if the car was already in the dealer service department for some other reason). The recall is the same procedure as the TSB, but it is now mandatory and all owners will be proactively notified by HMA if their vehicle has not already had the fluid replaced.

But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into the matter, and may decide that further action (regarding the ABS module itself) is necessary. One would think this is a possibility, since some older Genesis units may have partial corrosion of the ABS units already, and changing to DOT-4 now may not reverse that.

Not sure what the news media is reporting, but sometimes they get things a little mixed up. But would have to see a link the media report to comment.

OK, I just saw this posted in another thread:

"A Hyundai spokesperson told The New York Times that brake fluid may cause the brake control unit valves to corrode, which reduces braking power. Affected cars will have their brake fluid replaced, and if necessary, will have the control unit replaced, as well."

I am not sure what criteria they will use to determine whether to replace the ABS control units.

I sure hope so. Hyundai has waited far too long to address this issue, and for them to deny the warranty claim of the OP when he'd clearly brought the car in previously for the same problem is just egregious. Shame on you Hyundai!

shame on hyundai is right. especially when it's a safety concern and was already reported to them. if they won't cover it, even after seeing the prior documentation before the warranty expired, start the filing of a report to the media, social networks, DOT, the BBB, and small claims or arbitration.

crap like this should never be tolerated from any car manufactuer-period

Hyundai made the production line change to DOT-4 on March 17, 2012 (The affected cars for the recall were manufactured from April 1, 2008, through March 16, 2012), so they have known about it for a long time.
