I was just on the phone with the Equus/Genesis desk at HMA asking about some Bluelink features and the rep confirmed that CarPlay IS coming to existing Genesis and Sonata cars, but she said the date is still unknown. She said owners will be notified when it's available. It's nice to at least have a confirmation that Car Play WILL be available for owners who've previously purchased. I tried to push for a time frame a little and asked if she thought it would be before the end of the year and she said she thought it was likely, but obviously didn't really know. We'll see.![]()
I wrote to Hyudai's PR people and asked about Car Play. Someone wrote back almost immediately. He told me that it would come to Sonata first. I also asked if it could be made available for 2015 without a hardware upgrade. He responded, "Genesis has a head unit that is compatible with CarPlay."
I read this to mean they could do a software upgrade but are not pre-committed to doing so.
It makes you wonder what the reasoning is that's guiding their decisions. One thing I wonder about is that the Genny models have two different systems and I wonder if that will influence their decision.

This article says that ONLY the '15 Sonata will get CarPlay upgrade, per Hyundai a spokesperson. In other words, current Genesis owners may be SOL.
Was told by detroit reps at auto show Car Play will be available for free on the 2015 Genesis- but it will require a software upgrade - already wired in 2015 Genesis.
