If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just wanted to write this as a "informational" thread.

I recently bought a new pair of Garage Door openers. Specifically I got the HD932EV model which is basically identical to the WD962KEV they sell on Amazon. These are 3/4hp Belt driven openers with Battery Backup and the new MyQ feature so you can control it via a smartphone.

Now these openers use the new HomeLink 4.0 protocol and Security+ 2.0. This is noticed by the YELLOW wire antenna they are putting on these openers.

On my 2009 Genesis, I had no problem programming this on my previous house where we had those Genie Screw driven openers with the Smartcode rolling remote. Now these new Chamberlain opener, I tried for 45mins and could not get the new Chamberlain remote to sync to HomeLink. Im talking about the first process where you need to hold the button down on your HomeLink and Garage Door remote to get it to first sync. Then you would proceed with the 2nd portion for rolling code. Never got past the first. It never blinked fast. Always kept blinking slowly meaning it never even read the other remote. I have a 2014 Dodge Durango and that had no issues programming the new Chamberlain remote.

So then started researching this more. Turns out the Genesis (mine was 2009 model) has the HomeLink 3.0 protocol. Its been said any car built before 2009 or so has the HomeLink 3.0. Mine was built somewhere around Sept08. I verified this by looking at the back of the Rearview Mirror. When you look at the FCC ID, you will see at the end "HL3" meaning HomeLink 3.0. HL4 would've been the one I needed. So newer Genesis models have this. So basically this HomeLink will not work with my new opener.

They do sell this "HomeLink Repeater Kit" for about $45 on Amazon. Im not entirely interested in that because its basically a unit that plugs into the wall to re-transmit the older signal from a remote that it includes. Plus I think you need this for each opener. Not to mention it doesn't work when power goes out, so essentially defeats the whole purpose of the Battery backup that is on the opener. So guess Im back to using the included remote on the Visor.

So just a warning for anyone pulling their hair out in this situation, if you planning on getting a new fancy Opener, just realize if you have cars 2009 or older, you may not be able to use the HomeLink buttons without a repeater kit.

Good to know - Thanks for Posting!!

Yeap no problem. Sucks that in basically 5yrs the HomeLink in the car has been basically put what I call "outdated" and anything Newer cant be used. It would've been nice say if these newer openers would just have retained some "legacy" only mode, like a special learn button for backwards compatibility. But that would be asking for too much from these folks.

Im looking at now more just to replace the entire Rearview mirror with say a 2010 model which probably has the HL4 FCCID on the back, if the plug and what not the same, should be a simple swap. If I can find it cheap enough say at a Junkyard or something. That's my next thing Im going to research.

Good luck - although I have to ask - why not skip the whole homelink idea and just use your smartphone to open the door.? I'm assuming you have a smart phone. I'd love to be able to open my garage door with my iPhone.

Yea I can use the smartphone. But I don't think its the easiest while driving upto the house, one hand on steering wheel, pulling into the driveway, other hand one handing the cellphone, put in unlock code, then launch the app, pick the opener, then hit the icon. Too much going on there for me.....haha.

Id rather be able to just put my hand up, hit the Homelink button, without crashing into my fence cause im too busy putting this damn 6digit passcode my company makes me do.

I understand - didn't realize you had to put in a code - that would be a pain. The garage door opener I was looking at worked via Bluetooth on the phone and once you got in range presented you with 2 arrows one up one down. No code. Good luck in your search - hope the wiring of the new one is pretty straight forward.

Attached is an image of the back of the mirror. You can see how it shows HL3 at the end. This is what I have. I just looked up a 2011 Genesis and LKQ picture shows the same thing, that would really suck that Hyundai didn't get around to updating the Homelink to 4.0 until say into 2012 or so.

I have a 2012 3.8 tech and the mirror has HL3 on it.

Jeez, Hyundai is late to the game. I actually found a 2013 Rear View mirror off a Genesis, and it actually had HL4 on the back of it. It has the Blue Link buttons on it. So I ordered that from a junkyard. Should be here by Thursday. The plug connection looked the same, so will swap it out (obviously Blue Link wont work, but don't care about that) and give it a go. Im pretty confident it will fit.

These mirrors are not made by Hyundai anyways. They are made entirely by Gentex. So the 2013 one looked very similar in the mount and plug connection (from the pictures I saw of the part).

Just wanted to let you all know that I swapped out the mirror with a 2013 Genesis. It is practically identical with the exception that it has Blue Link which the 09 doesn't have and doesn't matter to me since those buttons don't work. The mirror is identical in mounting and plug, simple 2min swapout. And the best news is the Chamberlain programming works perfectly now.

Here are some pictures for you all.

Front of the Mirrors, left is the 09, right is the 2013. Basically identical except the Blue Link buttons on the '13.

Rear of the mirrors, mounting plate is identical.

Plugs are identical, straight plug and play.

Front of the mirror mounted and plugged in.

Closeup of the rear showing how its mounted like the original 09 and wire cover fits. Basically again the mirror is 100% identical from a mounting, plug and play perspective. All you wont get if Blue Link.

Voice control the smartphone to open the door.

Not sure how'd you would do that. If Im driving up to the house, and say I have my Galaxy S4, and it has a 6digit pin lock enabled by my company, how do I unlock the phone, then launch the app, which then I have to select the garage I want to open? All via voice? Seems like a lot of voice commands as opposed to hitting a button that works 100% of the time.

Excellent work Dixit! It's for just such constructive info that I return to this site. Thanks

How much does the mirror cost? Where did you buy it?

Okay I just re read your post so I know where you got it (sort of).

People on eBay are asking upwards of $250-300 for this mirror for the folks that want to do this conversion on their Sonata or something, not sure what that conversion is about, but that includes the entire wiring harness which I (or we) don't need.

So found this Junkyard who sold me this mirror, basically came off a 2013 Genesis Coupe. He wanted $90, I bargained him down to about 65 and took it. I could probably sell my mirror on eBay for $40-50ish based on what I see on there. So could be a marginal cost difference.
