  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, unfortunately I got to put the 5 star crash rating to the test on my 2009 Genesis 4.6.

Making a left turn on green arrow on Saturday when guy blew though his red light at 45 mph in his lifted pickup truck, locked it up, and hit me head on. I had come to a dead stop as I was making the turn and saw that he wasn't going to stop---he probably was going 20 mph + when he hit me.

Damage was crumpled hood, front quarter panels bowed out and right side pushed all the way back to wheel well, headlight destroyed, front bumper damaged and headlights destroyed. Hood not able to be opened to see damage to engine--which kept running, and was able to back up and drive to shoulder of road---and will have to put on rack to see if there is frame damage.

Front airbags did not deploy---CHP officer on scene told me that front airbags only deploy when you are going at least 15 mph. Aside from headaches, and my wife getting whiplash (impact was centered on passenger side) everybody appears ok.

Car goes to the body shop tomorrow, had to be towed from scene. I am hoping that they declare the car a total loss---don't want to be stuck with the diminished value of the car, even if they fix it.

Very impressed by the hit car took, really liked the car, and would strongly consider getting a 2012 Genesis if they total this car out.

scary. Glad you & your wife made it out alive, that's the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

I had a very similar experience on Saturday when making a left turn on green arrow. The car coming from my left blew past the red light at about 40 MPH, but fortunately I saw it just in time and slammed on brakes to just barely avoid a serious collision.

we saw a semi hitting an SUV just like that on Saturday. they closed that part of the freeway for over 2 hours. Dont think the driver in the SUV made it.

From experience, I can testify that Hyundai's keep you safe in accidents.

2011 Sonata SE T-boned by stop sign runner at approx 50-60 mph in '89 Caprice:

I walked (limped) away with a cut on my left elbow and a severe bruise on the inside of my right thigh.
I am getting a permission error on that link. Do I need to be a paid member?

What would have happened if the other car hit your drivers door instead of the left front?

Beats me on the link.

I'm kinda glad it didn't hit the door.

Ouch. Fortunately it could have been a lot worse. You can definitely tell it was a high vehicle, it barely even touched your bumper.

The car did really well for the crash in your case.
I remember my friend's BMW 335i when he slightly bumped into back of a pickup truck's towing frame (~5mph) and had to replace the hood, bumper and grille.

Not bad- I was expecting much worse. Insurance should fix- guessing $6400

I feel your pain:( I had a similar experience this summer avoiding an on-coming car about to be head on with me. I went off the road to avoid the car, and had $14,000 in damage. Didn't have my car for almost a month while it was being repaired.

I thought by looking at my car it needed about $4,000 - $5,000 in repairs. I was way off.

Hopefully your car isn't too bad (unless you want it totalled)

No airbags, no seatbelt pre-tentioner replacements-unless structural elements are not damaged it shouldn't be too bad. When my Infiniti's bags fired, seat belts, headrest- all that great safety stuff added up- it was $15K repair bill - the front end damaged was only part of the bill.
Perhaps they can put new 2012 headlamps, grill and bumper cover on!

Airbags didn't go off because your bumper wasn't hit. Crash sensors are inside of the front bumper.

Yes..that's sad.. It doesn't deserve 5 star, I would rate less (3/5) as it has so many problems... Hope, all the problems will be resolved in the new 2012 Genesis
