  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dash cam?

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a dash cam? Never had a dash cam before, so I’m not sure if there are specific models that works particularly well with the GV70?

After following a couple of recommendations on this form I had a BLACKVUE DR750X-2CH Plus installed a couple of weeks ago ( on a very stormy Friday the 13th). The professional installation went very smoothly (less than an hour) and the total cost was less than $700.00 Canadian. Both front and back cameras are readily accessible, yet not visually obstructive. Additionally, their wiring is essentially hidden. As a side note, the installer informed me that, as based on from his experience, all Hyundia products are wired in a relatively 'user friendly' manner.

Unfortunately, it's been one snow storm after another here in New Brunswick of late so the GV70 with the new dash cam hasn't been out of the garage. That said, it's been paired to my phone and we're 'good to go'.

I've had better than average luck with Nextbase ones. They aren't perfect, but they work for me.

I don't want to see my dash cam...it's there and running "just in case". So I purposely put it on the other side. Below the cowl, I find it becomes a blind spot and is distracting, although I have my screen turn off about 5 seconds after the camera boots. Also don't want it super visible from the outside. I balanced height and as tight as possible to the cowl (ideal was tight to headliner, but then it was being blocked by the cowl) so after playing with the positioning, I found that was optimal spot. It's a bit off centre but the view is wide so the 4" off to one side makes little difference.

Sorry, not sure why the image keeps rotating 90 degrees each time I attach, but I give up trying to fix it.
I really like how you set it up. What dash cam is that? And how did you keep the wire on the roof? Was there a plug in there?

I have also had great luck with Nextbase.

Personally I would ignore all of the fancy features. It’s not necessary to catch the bad guy just show that you are not at fault and let the insurance take over from there. Saved me a bunch when my daughter, as a new driver, got hit by someone running a red light.

Sorry for the delay. It is the Viofo A129 Plus Duo. Got it on sale during black friday for under CAD $200. This is my 2nd Viofo. Have had great success with them. They are a fraction of the price of some of the bigger names but they serve their purpose, which for me is a bit of an insurance policy, "just in case". Only viewed a couple of videos now and then on my old one, and they were always flawless. This one has wifi connection to download or view vids and make adjustments to the settings.

Wire goes up and tucked in headliner. It stays by itself. Runs to the left across to driver's side A-piller behind the air bags and affixed to existing wiring harness down A-piller and into side of dash to fuse box on drivers side using fuse taps. Two wires out of my dash cam...one is power (includes constant 12v for capturing video when car is off, and ACC that turns the camera fully on when car is on) and the other is for the rear Camera. The power wire is actually a separate Viofo wiring kit that has a voltage regulator so if GV car battery falls below a present voltage of your choosing (3 or 4 options), it stops sending power to the dash cam when the car is off to prevent killing your battery. Nice feature. This wire kit was only an extra CAD $30. Definitely worth it. Rear camera wire was run along the edge of the headliner to the back then up through the existing channels to the tailgate. My rear camera is affixed to the trim above the back window. Took a bit of effort but not super difficult.

I have the same camera and setup. I let Best Buy install mine. My rear camera is also mounted to the rear trim. Makes it so no wire loop is needed like when you mount to the rear glass so the hatch can open.

Mine is attached to rear trim of the hatch itself. I ran my wire from the headliner through one of the rubber articulated boots between the body and the hatch frame so I mitigated that issue. As a result, I could have also attached it to the glass without a loop but chose to attach to the trim instead.

Also this way, when the hatch is up, the camera is up out of the way and not intruding in the rear opening.

Sounds to me like Best Buy got lazy with their install.

No. They did it the way I wanted it. Camera does not move. otherwise you need enough slack to allow the hatch tobope. Also, mine is a GV80.

Ok, confused...is this not GV70 forum? I don't know the GV80 but like I said, the way it's done on GV70, my cam is attached to the hatch, whether hatch trim or glass, no loop required to allow slack for when door is opened.

I suspect, but not positive, the same could have been done in the GV80. There must be a rubber channel for wires and washer fluid from the main body (at the top) to rear hatch.

There is, but no need to do that on the GV80. The back does not slop as much as the GV70, so the camera is not in the way at all.

Okay, to each his or her own. I still would have run it to the hatch and have it completely clear of the opening when the hatch is open in order to minimize risk of it getting knocked accidentally and not notice that is not pointed correctly.

Has anyone tried hardwiring a dash cam into a GV70 yet? Wondering how to disassemble the A pillar area as it looks like it has a vent in it as well.
Dealership installed it for me

I have put in loads of dash cams and in families cars over the past 20 years or so. It has def been worth it. Had one accident recorded where where my college age daughter ran a red light and t-boned a car. The two people had back pain. Both cars were written off. Witness stated my daughter clearly ran the red light. BlackVue showed she had a green light and the adult driver failed to yield. That accident alone paid for all my cam setups. I just put a element 2 for front and rear, and element 1 light in each little rear side window. Spliced into power at the rear power outlet and it feeds a single 5v voltage regulator. Had to pull some trim off to to it with professional results. Wired in a radar detector from the same source. All very slick. The secret? Buy a days access to <Genesistechinfo.com> and you have access to any service manual, TSB, wiring diagram, etc. for the car. You can take it apart quickly without breaking anything, and it will answer every question you could have. It’s very well-written with great diagrams any easy links to follow.

Do you have pics of it installed and of the app or captured video snippets? I didn’t find anything online if any real value when searching.
