  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It has been discussed in this forum that the tires that come on the base model (not sure of others) the Dunlop SP5000 rarely last past 20K miles (at least in warm weather).

I am curious to find out if your dealer did anything in terms of paying for some of the cost of the 1st replacement set of tires?

I am about to hit 17K and I don't think I have more than 2K left on the tires.

no help.

On my 2009 the stealer agreed to install and balance a new set of tires for free that I purchased from tirerack.

That's good of them and more than I would expect from any dealer. Tires are consumables and even really expensive cars come with $hitty tires on them. I'm close to having to replace the OEM Dunlop tires and I am almost at 30k miles, which seems to be longer than most. I have been pretty diligent about rotating the tires every 7.5k miles and maintaining 33psi cold pressure.

I'm having issues at 9000 miles on a 2012 Rspec, with my oem tires, Continental ProContact. It was a demo, I got at 5000 miles.

Pulling in both directions, with many trips to the dealer to try to fix the problem.
Now the right front developed a bubble on the side wall.
The Serv Mgr, told me I must have hit something!

He has the area rep from Hyundai taking the car for a drive to see if they will replace these with new ones, cause of the pulling they can't fix.

It looks like these tires wouldn't last past 20K miles!
These tries should never be put on this car!

No help. The OEM Dunlops are complete rubbish. Poor tread life to go along with awful wet weather performance.

A lot of Genesis owners going back to 2009 have reported pulling to one side, mostly left, but sometimes right. Many suspect that Hyundai tweaked the alignment to make steering feel more responsive, but as a result it can go off-course at more easily because of that. All of this seems to also have an adverse affect on tires, and makes it especially important that tires be rotated regularly. Once the tires start to wear unevenly, the pulling gets worse, and the tires start wearing even faster.

I bought my 09 used with 25K miles on it (40K km) and it had the original Dunlops on it. They had age cracks and what my buddy called shoulder wear. I went back and complained and they said too bad, so sad; the tires are within the limits for certification in Ontario. I took the car to a DOT inspection guy and he agreed that they were within the limits of the rules. He also told me HE would get them replaced and if I kept them to inspect them on a weekly basis. He explained that all he could do was to enforce the law which these tires were technically within.
I ended up calling the dealer and leaving a message for the General manager. The next thing I knew I received a call from the used car manager with an offer to pay half the cost of whatever tires I would like. I chose the Bridgestone Serenity's and they ended up actually paying closer to 75 percent of the cost based on what Costco is charging.
The moral of the story is if you put in some effort you may get more cooperation from the dealer than you think.

Agreed. I bought OEM tires and by purchasing them through TireRack, I had a significant savings. Getting them installed and balanced for free was a pleasant courtesy. Of course I now have a 2012 with the Michelin tires. I ran over a large staple somehow on the highway Easter weekend and went to Discount Tires to get it patched. Apparently the Easter Bunny was giving away prizes to anyone who entered the store that day. (Never heard of this before, but whatev...) And my Easter egg had a certificate for 4 years tire replacement and free rotation for the car which they immediately applied to my flat. I didn't have any complaints about the 2009 ride and I'm just as pleased with the 2012.

A good negotiator can get him or herself a different set of tires installed on delivery day if the Dunlops are not to your liking. But I don't think Hyundai should be expected to give you a set of tires because they wear out "too fast." Lots of things go into tire wear.

I'm seeing the local Hyundai rep tomorrow to see if he will ok my tires replaced...
this after the dealer couldn't fix the right/left pull...

I'm wondering if the bubble that developed on the right front sidwall, if he'll tell me I hit something...which I know I didn't do...

I got 27,000 miles from OEM Dunlops. Had no problems with them pulling. Put on Conti DWS and had horrendous pulling to right. Remember that the camber is Not adjustable so Hyundai can't tweak the settings.

No, I had not seen the video. I am pleased with the General GMax tires.

The General brand is part of Continental Tire corp. That said, I have read good things about the GMax.

Any have any experience with these on the Genisis.

Which Michelin tires did you have??

If you have the standard 235/45/19 on the R-Spec, your choices are going to be limited, it's an odd size that not too many manufacturers make.

Just thought i would ask to see what the Hyundai rep said. also if you don't have any luck with them call the 1800 Hyundai Connect. they really did help me with my tire replacement. but the sad thing is after they replace the tires the pulling has gotten worst then before. and the car is still at the service dept for day # 10.

There is an optional summer Bridgestone Pole Position 245/45/19 offered by Hyundai for the R-Spec that comes on the OEM R-Spec wheels. That size gives you more choices. I will replace my tires with the A/S version when needed.

Yes that size 245/45/19 is much more common in terms of choices. I just put the Potenza S-04's on my BMW 5 series and took off the runflats. Huge improvement in every category possible, would highly recommend this tire.
Bridgestone has been very good to me and my family.

Yes, the Rep was great. They agreed to replace two tires and the dealer will cover the other two.
However, they will only replace with ProContact, as came OEM on the car.
They are sending my tires back to the company to be examined more closely.
So this tells me, they must be aware of the problem and are trying to figure it out.
By using the same tires, they will guarantee and road defects for 12 mos.
I'm happy now, but lets see if the car tracks better with the new tires....
