  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey. I'm curious. Is there a noticeable amount of increased noise from the larger tires on the V8 as opposed to the V6? The V8 has some pretty big rear tires. I'd love to hear some opinions from people who have driven both cars...

(This message is posted here as I'm discussing stock tires - not after market)

The width of a tire or its profile does not directly transfer into how noisy it is. It depends on tread design and the internal construction of the tire.

The question was concerning the V6 and the V8 which had the same tire, same tread pattern, same everything except width and profile. I don't think anyone has reported back on anything except the Hankooks.

I found the V8 tires were perhaps a tiny bit louder, but it is hard to tell because the V6 actually seemed a louder exhaust note than the V8.

The sound deadening in the car is rather well done in my opinion, so with windows down, it may be quite different. With windows up, not much road noise came through in either case. Nor did it with the Equus, which I found to be no quieter than the Genesis.

Great question. BTW, this is on Houston fwy's which are famously loud (I-10W and S610E are good examples; they will put your teeth on edge.)

Thank you. I just know that the new BMW X5 has some extremely wide tires in the back - I believe 310s - and they're loud. Even with the windows up...

I recently had the opportunity to drive the V6 while my 5.0 was in the shop and I did not notice any difference in road noise between the two cars.

The sound difference is negligible until tires have higher miles and even then should not be an issue.

Thanks, guys. It's great to know there's not much of a difference - if any at all...
