However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Dilemma: 2011 V8 or 2012 V6

Personally going to wait till 4.6 comes over.
Then test drive both and decide.
I am currently leaning toward 4.6 but if driving feels similar (my driving habits aren't aggressive or 'floor that gas!' type) I would choose 3.8.
Like people who chose v6, you don't need that power if you are hardly ever going to use it.

Now since there are people who speaks out that v8 suspension is beefed up compared to v6, I'll have to feel it for myself.

Until 2012 4.6 is available here, I will stay put.

Ditto for me.

This from someone that bought a V6! You simply amaze me sometimes. You test drove the car, made your careful buying choice and chose a V6! Sheesh. In defense of those that may eventually buy a V6, the 2012 is a different (and much better) animal than the one you chose.

unlike MOST (here more so than other forums) i am not afraid to admit i made a mistake, as i admitted to by STATING i was so lucky to have had the 4.6 fall into my lap after i left the lot when i returned my 3.8, i could've slapped the sh** out of myself for being frugal about fuel economy that i was almost stuck with the 3.8 after experiencing the added features and enhanced driving characteristics of the 4.6.

On another note, until you actually OWN a Genesis relax a bit.

my prediction is that you'll never buy one and like many others do nothing but surf this forum (and the others you belong to) and in the end buy a Lexus or BMW, infiniti, etc. take your pick. the only reason you haven't bought one in the last three years is because you can't get the guts up to BUY a HYUNDAI period. I hate the stigma Hyundai carries still with the majority of Americans but i bought one, rebadged it and love the reaction when the unknowing realize it's a Hyundai.

And this is for Mark888. what the hell are you talking about??? how am i supposed to know what nationality this kid's parents are? or for that matter care? i was simply point out that he is NOT some 30yo guy looking to buy a $40k+ car, but a kid, who if he can afford one is probably someone who has had everything in his life handed to him by his "parents" otherwise why would he even mention that his "parents" are giving him grief over buying a korean car? When you're making your OWN money, most parents only weigh in making sure you don't buy over your head, not which car to buy UNLESS you are either: a young kid
using their money
or having them co-sign
and so forth..

too many of you are ultra sensitive. who cares what we say to each other? If this was our biggest problem in life we would be blessed, get over it already.

Not sure about you, but my parents do not run my life, so the cars I buy are my choice, not theirs. Also......The Lexus ES is a Toyota Camry with lipstick, so stay away from it, or buy the Camry SE instead. This has been well established in other threads.

I just tried a 2011 Camry XLE and I tried the 2011 ES350 2 days ago. calling it a Camry with lipstick is wrong. Of course the ride is better in the Lexus, obviously cuz it cost 10 grand more.

I don't like the Camry at all tho, things feel pretty cheap in there and the car has this annoying "bog" when the tranny up/downshifts. The one I test drove might be a lemon? Lexus shifts like butter and ride is even softer.

My parents don't run my life, That's why all my previous cars were Sports cars, but as I grow older, looking at my parents again, and noticed their white hair starts growing out ... when both of them rare had any just a few years ago.

I like the Genesis and will most likely get it. but it's also time for me to give them a little more respect, They are the person who spent 1/2 their life to raise me. and I will try my best not to piss them off more than I think I should.

Last car was a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged (required premium gas). I wanted the top of the top for my new car, and looked at the usual suspects (Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Lexus). Actually was pretty set on a Cadillac CTS but when I test drove the 4.6 Genesis, game over. The Grand Prix had a lot of umphh but you can just feel the power under the accelerator pedal of the v8. I am not racing my car at all but it is nice to know the power is there and it does so accelerate so smoothly. I have a fully decked 2010 4.6, with full wings decals, roof spoiler as well as deck spoiler (one coworker followed me out of the parking ramp and next day asked if I drove a Rolls Royce (and on to that note, I also had a 2 door Bentley come across 3 lanes in traffic to get behind me (I was very conscious of where that car was at) it was a definite move and eventually got back to the left lanes) :)))), built in GPS radar unit (black/cashmere). From what I have read, the V6 model gas consumption is negligible compared to the V8. OK, bottom line, love the car, it is so much bang for the buck! I heard bad things about the 2009 model year suspension - no probs with mine. Whatever you decide, this is a great deal!

Yeah Scott. i think we found a 17 or 18yo kid with this guy lol. just goes to show you the internet hides many things. here we are thinking this guy is an adult making adult decisions and then you have that post that tells it all lmao.

I'm sorry for anyone trying to compare the '12 V6 to any Genesis V8 model when it comes to scooting around somewhere, the two drive completely different. anyone that has truly owned or drove both for more than a test drive will attest to this fact.

You love the V8? Good for you, I test drove the V8 and V6 so I know the difference. Like I said earlier, I test drove 2009 V8, 2011V6/8, even 2012's V6 so I'm fairly sure what I'm talking about ---- plus after so many sports cars and been to so many AutoX and Track I am pretty sure I know what power can/can't do. the question is do I need it ? if it's "enough", and not that much of a difference. what's the point ? one time I was on the track with my 20 years old RX-7 still on it's messed up engine with only 160 hp and I kicked this guy in his Corvette's sorry ass on the track. So while HP/TQ are nice to have. It's not everything to me. If I want Purely HP I would be looking at something else.

You might think people are "stupid" to get a V6. but the sad truth is, V6 sells like hot cakes and there are tons of V8 still sitting on dealer's lot. I'm ok with both, just trying to figure do I need it. That's all.

Lastly, respecting parents somehow turn me into a "17/18 yr o KID." Just because I am paying with my own money doesn't mean I can do whatever the crap I want when they did spend their blood and sweat and time to raise me ? Hmm. excuse me, if you don't respect your parents that's your problem. but everybody in my family does and we try not to hurt our parent's feelings whenever possible. or at least try to minimize the "damage." You probably don't give a crap about your parents. I do.

Think this thread is becoming a flaming warzone but anyway as what I have said earlier, definitely 2012 V8 or V6 unless 2011 V8 is dead cheap.

yeah, I'm leaning towards the 2012 as well.

local dealerships are not willing to "lower" their 2011's price yet ... the lowest I got is 36760 + 399 doc fee + Tax + Title. 2011 V8.

and last I checked (like yesterday) there were at least 500 of them within the tri-state area ... and more than 1/2 of those dealerships have 2012 V6 on the lots already. HAH ! This is gonna be cool.

I respect anyone that values their parents opinion no matter how old they are. That is the sign of a true adult.

And who cares what car they end up driving, this forum, in part, is meant to be a place to share information to help each member determine what is best for them.

Hopefully, folks aren't making comments about others in an attempt to justify the purchase they already made. Frankly, I could care less what any of you buy, I am just gathering information to make my own decision. Heck, I wish I could ask my parents advice, but they aren't around any longer.

If I were in the market right now, I'd make sure to drive the '12 V6 and V8. From what I've read, the choice is harder than it was in Dec., when I bought my '11 V8. I'd also seriously consider the '11 model if it were sufficiently discounted.

first highlighted section tells me all i need to know about where you're coming from. Best of luck with your purchase.

secondly, the last highlighted section couldn't be further from the truth. i just don't type things like "my parents are giving me grief because i want to buy a Korean car. Grrrrrr". My 16yo might, but not I..

as about 3/4 of the posters on here do, i would also bet in the end you wont buy a Genesis sedan. it seems this site is filled with so many procrastinators it's insane. I belong to about a dozen car forums and i'm not sure if it's the whole hyundai stigma thing again, but people like to talk about them and not buy them on these forums, which is th polar opposite from the TBSS, LS1, GP, G8, GM Full size truck, Tahoe/Yukon forum, etc. etc. i'm still getting use to Genesis owners, so forgive my crass. i keep forgetting this car, this company has "just" delved into this segment, so the owners are not exactly defined. i picture 30 something and up owners with maybe 1 or 2 kids posting on here, not young adults fantasizing about an afordable luxury/sports sedan. i expect that in the "coupe" section.

v8, v8
v8, v8
v8, v8
v8, v8
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
At 44 I bought my first car, and I NEVER would have thunk that it would be a HYUNDAI!!!!!!

I've been on two wheels all my life. With a Borla exhaust on the v8, I feel right at home, and the solution for ESC kill, of course :)

On the highway this beast floats like a dream and gets surprisingly well fuel efficiency.

I always drooled about BMW, or Lexus ....
And from one day to the next I bought the Genesis!
For me it was a no brainer, quality components (love the 6speed auto tranny, Lexicon, FRONT BRAKES, cooled seat! etc) not to mention bang for the buck

You can go with this,
or you can just talk about it .............

too bad i am not the ones u have been thinking. If i am not as busy tomorrow i will go ahead and make the move. You shouldnt assume anything when you dont even know the person.

You are 38 and somehow think that your car gives you substance. It does not. In 10-15 years you might actually gain some judgement. Until then, enjoy driving a car you can't afford. Post less. You will thank me later!

Sorry "DeeVa", with a name like that let us not point fingers about portraying "status".

i just deleted many things about my life that would've helped you understand the bolded section of your meaningless post.

What does your post have to do with ANYTHING i have typed?? Owning a Hyundai gives me "substance"? Right. i have family for that, my job/retirement comes second and then personal possessions friend. i would be happy driving an '89 suburban around but i don't because i DON'T have to.

PS. i have set up my life so that at age 55 (regardless of the economy, if i live that long,) i will be vacationing around the country, with my wife and enjoying retirement. will you?

i'll ignore your nonsense and you can ignore me, how's that?

I wish there was that little "ignore" button, can't they add that?

NYCGPS - take into account your parents' advice, but it seems that you have been doing your due diligence and hence, it seems like a safe bet that you know more about cars than yours parents do.

Whether you get the Genesis or not, go with what you think is the best ride for you.

When it comes to cars, I'm the one giving my parents the advice (I don't tell them what to buy, but I give the the pros and cons of what they are looking at).

I understand what ya mean ;)

Of course I know cars way more than my parents, in fact I'm the one who gave my father(mom doesn't have license) advise on what to get.

I wasn't even asking them what kind of car I should get, I was telling them like "Hey Mom, Dad, I am going to get this car called Genesis from Hyundai ..."

That's when the "comments" start floating in like "OMG YOU SERIOUS?"

yea ...

if things goes well today I should be getting one ... now it's 7:00am in the morning and I'm almost ready to go with my bro to get his car an estimate (got rear ended) then I gotta go DMV, then gotta have some work ... busy day :( hope I can get the car today.

Thx for the concern ;)
