Disappearing Genesis Dealerships

Just found out today that my closest Genesis dealer in south central PA will no longer be a dealer. Need to go to Philly or MD for service. Think they will do concierge service there?? doubt it.
Sucks.

Usual limit is 30 to 50 miles. Depends on dealer

I can see it being a few tough years. The original plan, before lawsuites, was to have 100 dealers. Compared to other luxury brands, not many at all. MB has 380, Audi, 320. Maserati, 112.

You need dealers to sell cars, but you need sales to support dealers.

Out of curiosity I looked up BMW and they have 366.

A nightmare that’s coming true with regularity for existing owners, aka valued loyal Genesis customers.

Genesis buyers today (for the most part) don't want to purchase from a Hyundai dealership and what that level of service usually entails.

For buyers looking for "traditional luxury" (RWD + at least a 6 cyl) at a lower price, Mazda is the new go-to, but then again, it's not like they have the dealership count of a Toyota or Honda, much less Hyundai.

The Jaguar portion of JLR dealerships have been hemorrhaging $$, and now, JLR is asking many to give up their Jag franchise in return for a higher alottment of Land Rovers, as the new Jaguar (aiming to compete against Bentley) will have even lower volume (and hence,cannot support the current dealer count).

Many JLR dealerships aren't happy as they were pressured into purchasing Jaguar dealerships at a premium and then spent further millions building a new dealership to jointly house Jaguar and LR.

What I do know is that Genesis owners who are being abandoned don’t care for it at all.

Okay, yesterday I stopped into the "Genesis dealer" that is listed in Longview, TX, which is 45 miles from my house. A few good ole boys came out and spoke with me. They only had three Genesis CUV's on the lot, one of them a used GV70, which looked fantastic. One of them had no spare tire at all, only a "mobility kit".

Turns out it is actually Hyundai of Longview, but they do sell Genesis vehicles and say they already have the land next door on which a Genesis dealership will be built. They say they are committed to being a Genesis dealer, and that the nearby dealers in Shreveport and Lufkin, TX had dropped Genesis. So, for me, my choices are Longview or Dallas, which is about 100 miles away.

They claimed that, since my house is 45 miles away, it is within the mileage policy and that they would bring me a vehicle, take mine to the shop for the 15K and 30K services, and return the vehicle to me. I just have my doubts about their actually coming through on that.

Overall, I'm not real impressed, and it seems a risky proposition to pay that kind of money in this situation.

So, I got the GV80 recall notice in the mail, & called the Hyundai location where I bought the car (Hyundai of Asheville) & was told they no longer have "anythinng to do" with Genesis, which seemed strange...
Then called the local Hyundai dealer (Hunter Hyundai of Asheville) & was told that they will still service my Hyundai, but that they were not allowed to service Genesis at their new (mucho $$$) facility, but they could do it at their old location, but only on Wedesdays & only using valet...
Contacted Concierge, & of course they were "shocked," & would look into it, but I could try Genesis of Greer (SC), some 50 mils away...
Within days, I received an email from Concierge stating "I checked for the Genesis retailers within 250 miles of your radius and there are no Genesis retailers within this range. We will pass this on to our management and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience."...
250 miles from where I live includes Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, & Knoxville, so begging the question, does anyone else have anything that causes anxiety regarding the stability of the Genesis brand?...

Many of the Hyundai dealers aren't willing to make the investment in facilities and staff to play in the luxury space so they're dropping the Genesis franchise now that GMA is holding the dealers' feet to the fire. As of 4/15/23, there were 8 freestanding Genesis dedicated dealerships in the continental U. S. and some additional planned or under construction so that number might double by year end. GMA's goal of having approximately 100 by the end of '24 seems a bit optimistic.

I am in Charlotte and receive monthly mailings from Greer SC Genesis about service opportunities, specials, etc. I have never been to their facility so they must pull my name and address from some Genesis listing somewhere. If it were les than 85 miles I would give them a try. I have two Genesis dealers in Charlotte, both mixed Hyundai/Genesis locations.

Where I live, the Hyundai dealer stopped selling Genesis about two years ago. I stopped by at that time and they only had three of them on the lot. When I went looking to buy one, they no longer sold them. But I have three others, 45 min, 50 min and 1 hour an 10 min. Of course I bought mine at the furthest one. But they give excellent service and at the time, they were the number one seller in the country. Not sure if that is still true. (Naples Florida)
