  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Originally I created this mod for the Sonata, and because of popular demand I've created it for a few more cars including the Genesis Coupe! This mod was created for function as well as style. It allows you to see your cup holders at night and looks really cool in the process! The lights match the blue Hyundai interior lighting and the cup holders turn on and off with the headlights.

It’s a completely do-it-yourself install and you only need some minor tools. It’s easy! I now produce these kits and can ship them out to you for you to install. PM me to order or email me!

I am also on eBay! The kits are $45 shipped and I make them for the 2010-2012 Genesis Coupe as well as the 2013+Up Genesis Coupes (2013 kit comes with slightly different instructions)

Installation Instructions
2010-2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
(2013+Up Genesis Coupe instructions slightly different, although kit is the same)

Read these instructions completely before beginning installation

You may need the following tools:
· Plastic panel popper tool (Harbor Freight.com #67021)
· Small Flathead Screwdriver
· Phillips Screwdriver
· 10mm Nutdriver or Socket
· 3/16” Drill Bit (or larger)
· Razor Blade
· Wire Strippers (I use something similar to the Irwin 2078300) and Crimpers or other wire attachment method
· Electrical Tape

Disassembly:

-Begin by removing the panels on either side of the console (highlighted in A). To remove passenger side, grab the part closest to the console (B1) and pry straight out. Afterwards slide the cover backwards to disengage it from the retainer stud (B2), repeat on the driver side. Remove the 10mm bolt on both sides (C).

-Manual Transmission: Unbutton shifter boot (D) (alternately you can unscrew shifter handle) then grab the inside of the shifter trim cover nearest the rear (E1) and pull straight up and then carefully slide it rearwards to disengage the front of it (E2). Slide it up past the shifter knob. Auto Transmission: Use a plastic pry tool to carefully pop up the shift console the same way as step E (E1 & E2).

-Remove the 4 phillips head screws pictured (F). Engage parking brake and remove plastic cover (G) by prying upwards with plastic pry tool.

-Next open the center console and pull out the carpet (H) and then remove two 10mm bolts (I). Pull the entire console backwards a bit and we need to unplug the large white plug to the right of the shifter (J). Now you can carefully lift out the entire rear center console, start with the back and lift straight up and then the front, remove from vehicle.

Installation:

-First thoroughly clean inside each cup holder with an alcohol pad or Windex (this step is important for quality of adherent). Drill a 3/16” hole from the top of the center console slightly off center in each cup holder (K). Now run your wires through the holes starting at the top (L) and remove the covering from the double-sided tape on the back of each cupholder disc. Carefully center each disc and then press down firmly to secure each disc (the smaller of the two discs fits in the forward cup holder. Do not remove disc once firmly pushed down) (M). Flip over the console (be careful not to scratch the top) and run the wires towards the power outlet/USB/AUX plug (N) where we will get power.

-The wires we need are in the white 16-pin AUX/USB plug (12-pin on navigation models not pictured) (O). Unplug the white plug and power outlet plug to make them easier to reach the wires. Take a razor blade and carefully cut open the tape covering the wires in the white plug and peel it back so we can access the wires.
-We need the PINK WITH BLACK STRIPE (+) wire on the end of the white 16-pin plug (**Navigation cars will be Pink Wire (+) on end of white 12-pin plug and Black Wire (-) right below that on white 12-pin plug**) and the BLACK (-) wire in the same plug 3 spaces over (P). (Alternate wire attachment methods can be used) Pictured is cutting each wire, then using wire strippers to strip them back, and connecting the RED LED wires to the PINK WITH BLACK STRIPE (+) and the BLACK LED wires to the BLACK (-) with crimp on butt-connectors (Q). Make sure all connections are secured and any loose wiring is zip-tied up (R).
You can also use side strippers to strip the wires without cutting them and wrap the LED wires around their respective wires, then tape up the connections and zip tie to secure (not pictured). You can also solder, or use Scotch-Locks/T-Taps. (DISCLAIMER: A 1-3amp fuse is suggested in line with the red LED wires).

-You’re all done! Turn on your headlights to test the LEDs. Put everything back together and you’re set! The remainder of the reinstall is the opposite of uninstall!

Looks good and nice write-up. Don't be offended by lack of response, the coupe section of this forum isn't too active. Mostly sedan and a few Equus owners here.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Do you have anything for an ambient foot well lighting which can be installed and controlled via the OEM dimmer switch?
