  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the pre-2015 Genesis?

The difference is the timeless aspect of the G1 styling. The low slung headlights, the swooping front and rear end. The length of the car exposing itself inside and out. There is a reason the 7 series and S class have kept this styling...its timeless :)

so what is wrong with the 2015+ that needs to be made "right"?

We've covered this a couple times, but off the top of my head, it's slower, heavier, uglier (subjective), and missing features so that other features can be offered for the same price bracket. Yeah, I'd like to have a hud in mine, and start it from my phone. But, I like my fog lights, my steerable headlights, my aluminium hood, my standard sunroof ( instead of that crazy rattling plano design), my better sounding stereo, my rear windows that roll all the way down. There's probably a number of other things I'm forgetting. And I swear, getting out of the back seat in the Gen2 is a lot harder than getting out of the back seat in my Gen1. We've switched off "who's car we taking to lunch today" enough times to do a bit of comparison.

Love the sleeper aspect of the G1. The 2015 front end and rear end sucks so bad. Hopefully it gets a fix in the refresh!

I have to agree with this. Now, I'm strictly talking looks. Every time I see a Ford Fusion, I have to look to see if it's a Gen 2.

The rear end has NOTHING that says "I'm special". It's plain, bland, and is common as peanut butter and jelly. Hell, the Elantra looks at least as good. Sad sad sad. I think Hyundai's best looking rear tail lights is the Azera. I fell in love with those years ago and set my sights on one. Bought a 2008 and never had one problem with it other than it rode like a tank. Never electrical issues, brake issues, sound system issues, and the brake pedal and accelerator would move toward or away from you. Nothing the Genny ever had.

I could learn to live with the front grill, but, that set of rear tail lights is just stupid on a $55K car.

Otherwise I like the Gen 2 better. The power band and the interior I like much better. Have never really listened to the sound system on the Gen 2. What did they do to muck it up??

I was driving back from lunch today and was stopped next to a black car like mine. I wasn't sure what it was until it got a little ahead of me. At first I thought that it was a Sonata until I saw the htrac badge. I really hate the taillights. The grill reminds me of a cheap Chrysler 300. I just can't see me wanting to buy something that looks like that.
Call me crazy, but the G1 Genesis looks a lot like a 5-10% downsized Equus. Tail lights, fog lights and grill are almost direct copies. Side view, very similar.
I hate to think what they are going to do with the next generation Equus.

I walk past a new Genesis each morning on my commute at the park and ride lot. Black, just like my Gen 1. It grows on you, I suppose, but I'm partial to Gen 1.

I'd like the advanced electronics in Gen 2 in mine (IPod integration, bluetooth audio, etc), and it's got some added bells and whistles, but I still prefer mine.

One of the reasons I chose the Genesis 4.6 was that I liked the clean, almost spartan dash and relative lack of switchgear.

The Gen 2 has a button for every dang thing. TOO MUCH, too busy. Climate control being the perfect example here. It's like the difference between an older aircraft cockpit and a glass panel cockpit. Simpler is better, IMO.

Swap the rear end on my 2013 onto the 2015 and I'd buy a Gen 2.
Rear end kills it for me. Too Sonata for me.

NSXNEXT, my feelings as well. I had never looked at a G2 from up close, just seen them on the road, until a couple days ago. I happened to park my 2010 next to a G2 in a parking lot, front facing in. When I came back to pick up my car, I couldn't believe how much more I liked the rear end of my G1. In fact, even though I had initially noticed that it was a G2 when I parked next to it, I went to the front of the car to double check, since this was so unexpected. It reminded me of the Sonata as well; and so I went looking for a thread like this one.
(not saying that the G2 is not a beautiful car overall; but vs. the G1, it's clearly intended to have more of the standard sports car profile--shorter back, longer front, more swooping roofline, more Jaguar like in overall dimensions perhaps)

Coincidentally, a few days later I happened to pull into the driveway of a very well to do acquaintance of mine, backwards. They drive expensive cars. I went to get something for a couple minutes. When I came back, he was standing next and to the left of the rear of the car, staring at the car from the rear (with the wings). He asked me if this was new car and what kind of car it was, and said that it was a very nice car.

The new ones look like a Mazda to me. If Hyundai put a DI 3.8 in a 2012 R spec it would be perfect.

Now that the G90 is out, it looks almost like the G2 Genesis. I just don't care for their looks. Reminds me of the Sonata.
Mercedes is doing the same thing. I hate the look of their new grill.

In my opinion the weakness of the G2 Genesis was the rear. The G90 definitely has a much better looking rear so I actually like it. I wonder if they're going to keep the equus price tag for that one or increase the price now that they have a new brand.

Time to stir up some controversy...g1 looks like an inbred mercedes. Come on they spent half a billion dollars on the g2 look. you have to be tripping on some acid to even compare g1 and g2 and then say that g1 looks better. G2 is the complete package it is literally 98 percent of a lexus or bmw. Can't really say that about the g1. As for the ass end of the car I have never seen a sonata back end and thought "oh is that a genesis" it looks like the elentra shape except for the fact that it looks like a million bucks. Get real a mazda? Lol yeah good joke atleast say fusion or 200.

Speaking of Jaguar, is it just me who sees more than a passing resemblance between these two cars (side view):

combined with the longer front end and rear door/rear window pillar combination shape more akin to this Jag: http://cars-specs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/XJ-Series-XJR.jpg

You need to look at these in windows open side by side. (I am probably not the first one to mention this; and looking like a Jag is a good thing in my book.)

Coincidentally, at the 2:50 minute mark, this reviewer of the G90 mentions resemblance to Jaguar--not sure, but I think he is talking just about the rear end (and if so is presumably referring to the xj). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf9FSZVYuDA

I think it's hard to argue that there is not a strong resemblance with the rear end of the Sonata:

if you look them side by side, though the G2 looks better for sure. That said, save for the lights, I seem to see more elements of the Accord (or G1) in the overall shape of the rear, at least in these pics:

I agree I see a Gen 2 on the road and at first glance I think it's a Sonata.

Sorry don't see it and I own both.

Best to ignore - baseless comparisons if your eyesight is ok - just sour apples justifications from folks that still have the older model ;)

I enjoy my gen 1, but if I had the funds I would've preferred a gen 2 ultimate. The gen 2's interior is beautiful and same goes with the exterior.

I completely agree about the interior. It is light years ahead of the G1. The exterior however is a different story. The huge amount of added weight is also a big deterrent for me. I'm waiting to see the G80 and G70...

If the 2G was 600 pounds lighter, or if they tweaked the engine to produce between 400-450 lb.ft (roughly 0-60 in 4.5 seconds), I would have bought it in a jiffy almost two years ago...

Don't get me wrong, I love the R-Spec, but even with rigid collar, 20" wheels, the ride is still somewhere between 3.8 and 5.0 of the G2, certainly no where near the 2015 ultimate (measured in normal mode). In my humble opinion the 2015 5.0 ultimate with sport mode ride is rather wonderfully balanced, however, lacks 10% of the 'adrenaline rush' generated by the R-Spec!

I just hope that the N division comes up with something special, ex: supercharge / turbo charge the 5.0 around 2017-18 with configurable/selectable as well as independent steering/transmission/suspension settings and keep the price competitive to continue to keep me as a loyal customer...
