  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the pre-2015 Genesis?

I love the older Sedans and Coupes, too. All of these cars are derivatives, as are cars from the other makers, so get over that point. The Coupes were near copies of the Infinity G37 Coupe, which made a lot of G37 guys angry when ours appeared at half the price. The Sedan definitely followed the look of Mercedes at the time, but had an exotic otherness to it, a "hidden gem".

You Sedan guys are going through now what we went through in 13 with the head-scratching uglification and Velosterization of the Coupe. The new Sedan is beautiful in its own way, but compared to the sleek older model looks like a truck with that butch grille. I drove one and it was so lumbering and heavy an experience it reminded me why I own a sporty Coupe. So, if I were in the market for a Sedan, I would look for a used pre-15 R-Spec.

As an enthusiast, I'm troubled that HK seems to be making so many wrong moves after coming on the scene so strongly with the first generations of our Genesis cars.

"Butch grill".... Very good, funny.. In a Don Rickles sort of way... In person, the "wide open available mouth of a plastic adult doll grill", like Audi so promoted for a few years, is not so pronounced with the 2015. The angled wide grill of the Genny is now being copied by latest Audi (slightly different corner angles).. They have dropped the plastic doll mouth look. Anyway, most people seem to agree with you (including me) first Gen is/will be classic for decades and looks better today.. Casual anecdote.. Men watch and comment more on my first gen.. Women seems to comment and smile more with the 2015.. Go figure. Maybe red lipstick border around the grill of the 2015 is called for..

Yes, that's true of mine as well. More women notice it and comment on it, or older men, but I think it's because many younger guys who so obviously notice it won't let themselves express such things to another guy, you know, out of competition. I see this at car events and other regular situations, when a woman will just come out and say, "that's a very beautiful car!" where a man will often glance and pretend he wasn't ;)

Anyway, yeah, I think it's only an issue comparing the two generations, which is unavoidable. The new Sedan really is good looking on its own (particularly in black in the new Hyundai commercial), but next to the older one, has none of that subtle exotic look. In the commercial, it's shot in a way that makes it appear smaller and lower than it is, but it's huge, bested only by the Equus or the SUV market. A similar effect happens with the Coupes. The new ones do look good on their own, but next to mine for example, look like bling was just thrown at the car so that it would appear like a "new generation" when it isn't. There are really only 3 changes to the exterior (nose, hood, tail lights) but what a difference.

With all of the models now, this fetish with LED strip lights is already past trending, yet every single car and truck seems to have them now. If I had them on my car, I would unplug the freakin' bulbs because they scream out low-class bling and nothing like design refinement.

This is an interesting statement with little merit to back it up.

Some certainly look cheap because they are. Audi, Range Rover, Jaguar, and Porsche have all done excellent jobs of using bright and dynamic LED strips to accentuate their headlight. So much so that LED headlights in general have started to take the industry over....

I think we'll all agree we're discussing personal design opinions. Strip lights were maybe cool for a season many years ago as seen on some exotic cars, but today's ubiquity of "me too!" down market strip lighting doesn't make it a good general design principle. I would seriously unplug them, but if you like them, more power to you.

I'm with you there. Kia and Hyundai have done a horrid job of implementing strip lights on their vehicles. Some do it well, some Kia it lol

Couldn't agree more about the led strip lights. Every new car has them. They are overplayed.

DRS: ➕1⃣ too many younger metro males do not like older men. That may be why. Some women know a good thing when they see it.. :)

➕1⃣ that is why I kinda like the deep yellow running lights on my ultimate (many hate them. Guess I am contrarian again).. Verses bright LED daylight.. I do like how Hyundai has the strip of accent LED. Fits in with the era better..

When I bought my 2014 R Spec, it was sitting next to a black 2015. I greatly prefer the body style of the 14 over the 15. The 15 looks like it's trying to look like something else but doesn't know what. I get looks and questions about mine almost daily.

I agree completely with that statement. When every Ford, Chrysler, Chevy and Nissan is starting to sprout LED strips around the Headlights, this is a design statement that has "Jumped the Shark" a long time ago. The Gen1 with it's Eye-brow strip is a classy touch you don't see just everywhere.

having owned both generations I will say that I liked the look of my gen1 with the 3k bulbs I used when I replaced the fogs and DRL/high beams.

I have never been a fan of LEDs but nearly every other aspect of the new genesis is better in my opinion.

I like the new Generation, especially what Huddleston has done to his car and in a few years I will look for a nice low mileage 2015 5.0, but I Love the look of G1 car, especially how very few people know what it is. My daughter had a moment like the Buick commercial, she knew I got a new car, but she didn't think that the car parked in front of her apartment was a Hyundai. She very timidly walked up and tried to see thru the tinted windows, she thought it was a Mercedes.

I have a new neighbor. Yesterday we chatted in my driveway and she drooled over my '12 Genesis. She didn't ask me what is was, but she "knew" it was either a Benz, or a Bentley. She also asked me if it fits in my garage because she said it is so long. Love those moments.

Second generation is growing on me just like the 350Z (Z33) did after a while. Still prefer the 1st gen the best just like the Z32 over a Z33.

thanks man! having owned both I do like the newer gen better just in the looks department. both are very well designed cars and should continue to age well.

If the second generation Genesis looked like the 'Vision G Concept', I would have been all over it. In my opinion, the grill, head lights, roof line (especially the rear pillar) and rear (tail lights, trunk) of the concept car are a much better looking design (Bentley like) than what was used on the current 2G. Who knows, maybe some of these elements will show up on the mid model refresh of the 2G, but it seems unlikely.

Also, I am very disappointed in the shape of rear door window frames (pillar?) on the 2G car. It looks like an upside down Y. I wish that it could be straight like on the 1G car.

All I can say, is that I am extremely happy that I still had a chance to get the 1G at a great price, when the 2015's first arrived. I do agree that the interior of the 2G car is nicer.

I love the second gen because I'm a fan or LED lights, but outside of that, I'm not sure I like anything else about the exterior over a 1st gen. The older model looks more smooth and sleek overall.

I'm happy they changed it a lot though because no one has ever looked at my 2012 model and said "oh this looks like the old version of the Genesis". Everyone always thinks it's a brand new car, so I think it'll age well because there's no new iteration of it.

As far as the interior, I find the 2015 looks more like every other luxury car, although I really like it. I think if the 1.5g had slightly better chrome trims (between the middle control buttons, to match the tech pack controls and memory seat buttons) and wood instead of the grey plastic part, as well as an analog-looking clock, it would look perfect.

Only thing I find odd about the 2015 is the passenger vent in the middle is up-side down and that always bothers me because it ruins the symmetry. :P

So you would like this better?

I've been in the G2 numerous times, and I always think the interior looks "cheap" compared to my G1. Too many plastic buttons.
