That said, I just remembered. I believe that the rear end of the ES 350 is the one that might most closely resemble the rear end of the G2 overall.

Not to prolong the discussion any further, but to those (I hope few) G2 owners who seem to believe that some of us G1 owners are biased and just "sour apples" (which we are surely not), here is an independent reviewer's take on the G2 revised styling. You don't see him gushing with praise over the new model; in fact, it's not even clear (to me) that he prefers the new styling (i.e., compare "handsome" vs. "grille-dominated nose that makes it more distinctive . . . Unfortunately . . . "):

"The earlier Genesis was criticized for aping the Mercedes S-Class, but I always thought it looked handsome enough. The 2015 has a new, grille-dominated nose that makes it more distinctive and in line with Hyundai's latest design direction. It still has a prominent winged Genesis badge on the hood. Unfortunately, the rear end seems to have received little attention. It's just sort of … there."

There was really hardly cause for those ad hominem attacks.

(Note: I did not go looking at 10 reviews to find the most negative sounding one. This is the first one that I came across, and I did not look further.)

By comparison, here was the same website's review of the original Genesis' styling:

"Based on the car's sleek, stylish appearance overall, I suspect many who investigate further will be impressed with what they see.
Though the Genesis doesn't blaze any new trails in terms of design, it does possess an athletic look for a large car, and it's also well-proportioned, which seems like one of those basic design qualities that can get left behind sometimes. The Genesis has a timeless elegance."

I have a G2, and I probably would have purchased a G1 if AWD had been available.

Frankly, I think both are great looking cars. The G1 is more conservative, and I do see some resemblance to Mercedes, especially in the front end, which is not a bad thing.

At first look, I was not too sure about the G2 front end, but it really grew on me, and I think it looks better in person. I think the G2 rear end could have used a bit of chrome between the tail lights to dress it up a bit, but it's not not a show stopper.

Both cars have great interiors. I could give a nod to the Leather on the G1. It was basically the same as the Equus, and the Azera. It's a bit softer and more supple than the G2. (Yes... even with Tech and Ultimate packages). Still in all, I prefer the interior design in the G2.

Ernie, I have never heard of hooniverse (but I had heard of cars.com), but in any event I did not see how that review changes anything said in the posts above or in the reviews I linked above. Plus, note the following comments left (from non "sour apple" commentators), which echo some of the things that have been said on this thread (by presumed "sour apple" Gen1 owners):

The Genesis sedan recently appeared on my radar as a replacement car but I certainly wouldn't buy a new one when fully optioned low-mileage 3.8L 2012-2014 models can be had all day long for less than half what a restyled 2015 cost new. Regular gas, more HP than the 2015 V6 and (IMO) better looks are all pluses to me. That new grille looks like a cross between an Audi and a Mazda, both of which I like separately but not when melded together.

(Only talking about exterior styling here, not anything else. And by way of a reminder, my initial post just said that I liked the rear end of my G1 a lot more, while making the disclaimer that I was "not saying that the G2 is not a beautiful car overall.")

By the way, I remind you that on this long thread, the styling of the G1 was preferred to that of the G2 by a factor of 5 to 1. According to you guys, that would be an awful lot of sour apples here.

Not mention how Hyundai has de-contented the Gen 2 versus Gen 1, for many buyers. For example, the 17 speaker audio system is now a precious commodity, reserved for the top end model. Then there's the lighted door sills. Now, let's talk about tires....

Some '15 Gen 2 owners have even taken a financial bath (a hosing), just to upgrade to '16 models in order to get LED DRLs. Or, maybe their ashtrays were full?
