  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the 2015 G2 3.8L rwd w/Ultimate Opt have illuminated door sill plates?

Yes, he mentioned that later and I did not think of that when I first posted. I probably would have looked at the 2016 features anyway, as they are mostly the same.

He admitted that he thought I knew, and was deliberately withholding the info.

I spoke too soon: Hyundaiusa.com is now back to displaying the 2015 Genesis on the main vehicles page - no 2016 Genesis listed on the main page. That's strange as it had flipped over to list the 2016 a while ago. Glitch, I guess?

I noticed that also. Maybe because dealers have too many 2015's still to sell and some dealers are telling customers that the 2016 is not available.

However, if you change the "2015" to "2016" in the URL, you can see the 2016 page.

Getting back to the door sill lighting. It seems like the 2016 USA models are more like the Canadian 2015 models in many ways. The CDN models had no rear sun shade, we had fog lights on all models, we had white DRL led surrounds, all models had lighted sills except for base, all models had real wood grain dash except base. That being said, you may get the lighted sills on the 2016's or ay least maybe the wiring is there. Just a thought but we will find out soon enough I guess. ;)

You miss the point. This thread is not about the "big picture of the Genesis" - it is about a very specific question on the G2. Your bad info that it was not possible to add lighted sill plates on all G2's and the fact that it might be easier to do on the G1 is of no help.

Maybe you should just stick to answering model-specific questions on the G1 you actually own, know about and can help people with? I certainly don't answer questions about the older model...

Perhaps you should just let other posters write their own posts. Less stress on your vitals. I never told the OP that it was not possible to add sill plates. Again, suggest you not worry about the posts of others. Let others practice free speech. You are not our moderator.

According to Hyundai Motor America website, the 2016 USA model of Genesis has the Illuminated door sill plates as standard on the V8 (only one trim level in 2016 for V8), and not available on the V6 (regardless of trim level).

On the first generation (2009-2014) Genesis, the wiring was present to add the Illuminated door sill plates on cars that did not have it, and a lot of members bought them on Korean parts importers on eBay, etc, and self installed them. I believe the same for the 2015 that don't have it.

No problem - obviously, as it's a public forum, you can always use your free speech to continue posting about a car you have no idea about - and I, as an actual 2015/2016 G2 owner, can use my free speech to correct your input when necessary so you don't mislead others... it doesn't stress me at all.

The instructions for the 2015 are in the thread linked below - starting at post #37. I assume the 2016 would be the same - but still needs to be confirmed.

It's funny, I was thinking the exact same thing when you wrote this a few weeks ago in response to someone asking for links about dash trims:

You didn't search very hard. Just Google "wood dash kit" and you can spend hours reviewing numerous vendors' offerings. Additionally, your local custom interior auto shops would be happy to give you some ideas. They install these dash kits every day.

Here's the thing, I'm glad the OP didn't do as you suggested and just go to Google and search it out himself because I wouldn't have even known about the availability and neither would anyone else who searched the same topic in the future. After all, part of the purpose of this site is to act as a source of information. Telling people to look it up on Google doesn't really help the rest of us.

So maybe the takeaway from this is just to let people ask their questions and not police the appropriateness of it or tell them to go elsewhere to find the answer, that's for the moderator to decide.

You can do what you want, but if you use Google to search this forum (using domain genesisowners.com in the search criteria) you can find all previous discussions on a subject. So that is not really going somewhere else, but searching this forum. You could just wait for someone to post the answer again, but how do you know it will be the correct answer, or the most complete answer?

I don't mean to piss on anyones parade but why are you guys so hostile? The guy was just saying it's hard for an average joe to install compared to his g1. Yeah he is in the wrong forum to give advice about a car he doesnt have but no need to crucify him. Not cool

I'm not intending to crucify anyone - but explain to me what value someone is adding by telling the guy that wants to install lighted sill plates on his G2 that it's much easier to do on the G1??? Regardless of whether that is true or not, it is completely irrelevant to the question that was posed and not helpful to the OP or any other G2 owner interested in the mod.

In any event, I'll stick to posting useful, relevant answers in 2016 and let the irrelevant posts speak for themselves to avoid hurting anyone's feelings.

I'm not following you at all here. I think maybe you've missed the point of my comment.

Someone posts a request for links to a specific subject. PMCErnie replies with a rather snide remark telling him to check Google. How does that further the discussion? What do I learn from it? So the next time the guy has a question, maybe he just says, ah f*** it, who needs the aggravation.

I want discussion, I want a sharing of ideas and personal experience or spit balling. I don't see what's wrong with that.

As I said above, you can do what you want. But if you want accurate information, go to the official source. In the case of illuminated door sills, that would be the Hyundai website where all the features are listed.

I seem to recall that lighted sills cannot be installed easily in some Gen 2 models. Something to do with lacking the needed wiring harness and no connector plugs under the sill plates. No such problems with 1 Gen models.

This was his 1st comment and was immediately attacked. I don't care what you find relevant or irrelevant don't be an ass is all I'm saying.

What does that even mean, "I can do what I want". I am asking people not to waltz in and shut down discussion because they think it's a waste of time.

Discussion is good, discussion is productive.

In one breath you're asking people to chill out, then in the next, you're calling someone an ass. How exactly do you square that?

My mistake, you weren't calling anyone specifically an ass. Sorry, I jumped the gun without looking at who you were replying to.

Come on bro we are genesis owners we should be like 2 times as smart as the average person lol

If stating a simple truth as in:

"The G1 input is irrelevant as the OP clearly stated he was asking about 2015 G2 in the title of the thread?"

is considered attacking and being an ass, you are WAY too sensitive... But, as I said, I'll just stick to the facts and ignore the folks who seem to like to come here to the G2 forum to chime in with non-value added input on their G1 in response to G2 questions.

No I agree it's completely irrelevant but it's not like he went on and on about it, just one little sentence about his g1. let the man have his time to gloat he needs it owning one of those ugly things(personal opinion)
