If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driver seat backing detached

Thanks for the post @LakeHarvester

I can see from your second picture that those tabs were broke in the exact same place as mine were. It literally looks like you took a pic of my car! lol.

Yes, the zip tie option is a fast and easy fix.

I'm very curious as to why yours broke while corning tho. That would imply there is some sort of twisting happening to the seat back no?

The 225 lb driver was probably another factor :). I suspect my weight times the lateral force applied to the side of the seat while cornering was the root cause. It's also possible one tab was already broken and the second one gave up and broke when it couldn't support it alone.

I see. I know mine broke because a rear passenger got a little aggressive with the seat pocket. But really, looking at the general construction of the plastic tabs, they seem prone to easily breaking.

I bought a used 2015 with less than 39,000 miles on it. The car is in almost mint condition, inside and out. Had it for over 2 months. Love the drive, then the driver seat back pops. Luckily it happened one day before my warranty expired. The dealership is ordering a new back cover. I asked the advisor if he's seen this before, he said yes, for some reason these original clips are very fragile, but he said the new ones are stronger. I asked him about the passenger seat and he said it's not broken so there's nothing he can do.

I have a 2016 sedan (I guess it would be the equivalent of the G80).

The back of my driver seat just popped the other day. Only I drive it and no passenger on that side.

I can’t seem to find clips or anything to re-attach.

Has anyone had this happen?

Yes this just happend to me n my 2015 genesis today when I arrived at work...it only has 67,000 miles on it..I'm in search of a resolution.

Proper resolution is to go to dealer and order a new seat back (Part #7 in earlier post). Not cheap.

The quick and painless resolution is to do the zip tie fix I posted earlier in this thread.

Sucks it happened tho. Straight up design flaw. Plastic tabs are too small/weak.

Someone on this forum had a thread with a home remedy fix for the clips.

How do you pull the zip ties to close from the outside?

You don't. You pull out the metal tabs from the seat frame. Place metal tabs against plastic brackets on inside of seat cover. Have a hole drilled on the plastic moldings that were for the plastic tabs which are now broken. Run zip tie thru hole and around metal tab. Tighten. Trim zip tie tail. Repeat this process for the other side of broken seat back tab. Replace seat back into proper position starting with the bottom. Line up metal tabs (which are now firmly attached to the seat back by zip ties) with their respective holes on seat frame. Push in. You will hear the metal tabs snap into position in the seat frame. Now, the top of the seat backing is re-attached to the seat.

I will try and make an edited photo using OP photos to illustrate.

Oh you take seat back off or pull back far enough to do everything then push back together

Yes. If your seat backing is broken, you already have access for this fix - this was my case. Both tabs were broken on the top of the inside seat backing. Using the zip tie method allows you to re-attach everything with the final step being pushing the metal tabs back into the seat frame.

pull out metal tab.webpdrill hole here.webp

I have my car in the shop right now for this very same issue. The service dept told me that hyundai is denying the warranty claim because it appears that someone has applied an outside force and broke the seat. how can I get the warranty to cover this, I am still within my 60K.

I would start by showing them this thread. Just had mine fixed under warranty for the exact same thing. No external force, just opened the door one day and it was like that.

FYI...

The other day I noticed one of the clips on drivers side had popped and as I was gently pulling to see what was up the other broke right off. Dealer is replacing it right now under warranty.

Part 88380-B1100-PHS replaced...was ~$450 on their invoice... Guess they don't know about the cheap zip tie work around ;-)

^^^ Ding ding ding!

I have had this happen to me. The plastic tabs on part #7 were broken right off. There are two metal pieces that slide under those plastic tabs and push into the frame of the seat. That is how the entire back piece is attached to the seat.

I went to the dealer and they asked for $850 for part #7. I said screw that. I fixed it myself by drilling two small holes on the broken tab housings. Put a zip-tie thru the hole and around the metal pieces and tightened. Lined up the metal pieces with the locations on the frame of the seat and pushed them in. It has been a SOLID fix for a while now.

If you need to access the internals of your seat, I don't see how you access them without breaking those plastic tabs. Seems like a design flaw.

Thanks very much for the easy fix! Worked like a charm. Those rascally dealerships, always looking to commit grand larceny...can't be trusted!

^ No worries. Glad it all worked out. I should have been an automotive engineer!!! I can fix a broken seat back! Hahaha!
