  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Drove the '15, keeping the '10

The best thing is to sell your own car. I know it seems like a real pain--- but it works. Especially if you have a really nice car---kept it up well. Here in Florida I notice the dealers offer about 1/2 the retail value for trades---really bad. I would think a nice Genesis would sell well. Ive sold many cars on my own, never had a problem. Thanks 7i bigblock

Thank you for your post. I am going to CarMax this morning to get a free estimate on my 2002 Honda Civic SI just so I know where I stand. It is valued online around $3500 - $4000 and wanted an estimate before getting the new 2015 G. Depending on the offer I will sell it outright or trade it in. I too have noticed on past experiences here in Florida that they do offer about 1/2 the retail value as you stated. I have never been to CarMax so looking forward to seeing how they evaluate a car. The process takes (according to their website) about 30 minutes and you can watch them go through the car.

I took a very short drive down the highway and didn't really notice the weight one way or the other. The '15 has more torque than my '10, and the 8-speed transmission is a lot smoother.

The trade figure they gave me was $18,600, not $21K. Not a huge difference, but even at 21K I would not have been interested.

My car has a little over 300 miles and is going in for a 3M XPel treatment, front bra, hood and lower side panels in a couple of weeks and I’m curious about your assessment of the 3M clear bra. Is it still clear, has age so far had any negative effects on it, has washing or polishing been easy. Would you recommend it based on your experience so far.

After 4 years the VentureShield is holding up well. You still can't detect it's there unless you look very closely. There is a little wear, of course, below the bumper where the lower panel occasionally scrapes parking blocks or curbs, but that's to be expected. Mine is getting a little swirly, like the rest of the paint, but I've relaxed my obsession about paint swirls because it's too much work to fight them any more on the black paint - the car still looks great from 10 feet away.
The film has protected my paint against a couple of nasty rock chips and overall was a good purchase. In my case it probably hasn't been essential, though, since I'm now retired and drive very little, and seldom on highways.

I think one of the problems why these trade in values are so low is there are to many new 2013 & 2014 still on the lots. Hyundai seemed to have really did a bad thing by releasing the 2015 early. Usually they release new MY in september from what I remember. Why would anyone buy a used one when they can get a brand new one for a little more. Maybe next year the value of our trade ins may go up. Not really sure, but that's what I'm hoping for.

It is silly to expect any type of deals on the 2015 Genesis yet. It is too new. The same thing was happening when the first Genesis started hitting the lots. I would expect that within the next year we will see significant discounts on the new Genesis.

Perhaps when the new 2013/2014s are 100% gone, the price of used 1st gens will normalize.

I took advantage of the situation, so I can't complain.

I had the VentureShield on my '11 Acura TL (black). When it was new, I had to feel for the edge to see if it was there. After a year, it was visible from a distance. I rarely drove on the highway, so I probably didn't save me from many paint chips, but I was pretty disappointed with the look.

My car isn't garaged during the summer (kids stuff on my side of the garage) so maybe that's part of the reason why.

It was really surprising to see how many 2013's and 2014's were available. You are so right -- it would have been smarter for them to have sold off more of the remaining inventory before releasing the 2015 models. I considered everything but and the deciding factor was that the discount on the R-Spec was too good to pass up. The dealership I bought from delivered the car to Seattle to me from Portland without charging me one penny to do it. That's the sign of a motivated seller:)

And I hope the values on the used cars will stabilize, not really for me as I intend to keep mine for a long time, but for people who want to trade into the new body style. There is no denying that interior on the 2015's is really nice. Has anyone heard if/when they will release a new R-Spec version? Will it be three years later like they did with the first generation? In some ways waiting three years was smart since it gave people with expiring leases something new to consider within the Hyundai brand.

That could account for it - my car has always been garaged so exposure to UV and the elements has been limited. It's been well over 10 years since we had kids at home, so the garage has been pretty much under control.

What did you think about the weight difference between your Genesis and the 2015 Genesis (when you test drove the 20150. If you still are interested in the 2015, you might just look online and see what your model would be worth if you sold it to Carmax.

I'm in a position where i need the 2015 seat for health reasons, so will have to bite the bullet. I have a garage kept 2013 8,000 mile Rspec. Your trade offer of $21k for 2011 30,000 mile with 3.8 V6 is not really bad. I assume my trade for a 8,000 mile 11 month old 2013 Rspec will be in the $30k's range. If I did not have the 5.0, I 'd trade my wives 2006 Sonata and give her the Rspec. But having 2 420hp cars in one family is to much.

The problem with most of the folks on this board is that they take great care of their Genesis, and they will be a really great buy for someone who wants one. Regards, and thanks for the information.
If you are interested in selling your R-SPEC, let me know--- color and equipment - options. Thanks 7i bigblock

I may be selling my black on black 2012 r-spec if I don't get a decent price when I trade it in. Never sold a car before. Don't know how it's done here in Wa State.

Got an interesting letter from Lexus of Orlando.
Says "Need to gain market share so we are wiling to buy your 2010 GENESIS 4.6 at:

The original base MSRP (NADA used car guide) - mileage driven ($0.35/mi) + $600.00 (shopping spree cash), provided you purchase a new Lexus."

I believe the base MSRP on 2010 4.6 is $40,300.00 (did not include price of tech unfortunately like the 2011 does).

30,000 miles x $0.35/mi = $10,500.00

So Buyback = $40,300.00 - 10,500.00 + $600.00 = $30,400.00

I paid a tad over $40,000.00 OTD (6% sales tax Seminole County Florida) for it four years ago.

Probably will never get a better offer but have to purchase a Lexus!

My Hyundai dealer offered $15k for my 2010 4.6 with 39k. The private sale price is $22k give or take a couple hundred.

I bought a 2015 genesis last weekend. My dealer offered $16,500 for my 2012 genesis v6 base trim with 22,000 miles. I sold it to carmax for $19,000

Yea we opted into the Guaranteed Buy Back program in case we wanted to upgrade.

Can you explain more about this "Guaranteed Buy Back" program? Does it cost anything? How does it work? Do you know if it is available on the new 2015 version?
