  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Early Owner Feedback

Drive it like you stole it!

I know people that do that and never had problems. A neighbor used to buy a new Olds every year and the first day he was on the PA Turnpike at 100+. I just drive normal for the first few hundred miles, meaning is will see very little above 4000 rpm.

If you have broken in your past cars the same I’m sure you will be fine. There is even debate now whether a modern vehicle even requires a breakin period. And if they do, then every demo vehicle would be a lemon but I’m sure most demo vehicles end being fine.

They used to also say you need to engine braking for the break in but with most cars now being automatic you probably don’t get any meaningful engine braking going on.

Thanks for doing the calcs. for the mileage. It nice to know you can get decent economy if you take it easy. Around here, we have the honor of having the highest price for gas in NA.

I went on a little road trip and got this mileage on the way home with a tail wind (8.0l/100kms as per the computer). I was doing around 120kph in eco mode. Sorry about the poor quality pic.

It's not just the engine you are breaking in. The transmission, differential, tires, brakes...

The agent told me the reps he talked to at the training stated to stay under 4000rpms, no launch control and no hard acceleration (to the floor) for the first 1000kms. After that you are good to go.

Yup. You are right. I forgot about the other components and the manuals do usually say to take it easy for a while at first on the other components.

Are you both finding that the tank is draining quickly? Maybe it's just calculating the consumption wrong.

Or maybe you have a hole in the gas tank, check for puddles.:)

It's actually 9.8 MPG.

24L / 100km
6.34013 Gal / 62.1371 miles

That is brutal...I don't believe it...impossible. That would be about right if you are absolutely mashing the pedal.
And you notice lots of rubber missing...

Well I received my G70 Sport on Friday - here she is

Congratulations on getting you new G70. That looks really good in the dark grey.

Got back from my 3000 km road trip with my 3.3T Sport. Averaged about 8.5L/100km and that's 100% in Sport Mode, plenty of hard acceleration, limit + 15 kph on average on a closed circuit, and very fast speeds that may not start with a 1 that were obviously done on a closed circuit. :D

The car can get decent fuel economy considering. :)

Sounds awesome. I have noticed mid 8's are easy on the highway. I have been settling in around mid 10's which I am happy with. Although with gas where it is price wise I am spending about $75 every 5 days which does seem brutal.

I was just looking at my credit card statement and I spent over $900 on fuel for a month on our two vehicles. I remember having mortgage payments less than that!

Curious to see what is the very best mileage G70 owners have had thus far..? That is, eco mode, highway driving, very little hard acceleration, etc.

Best I've had on the highway in eco is 7.4. That was a relatively short trip. About 110kms. I think I could do a little better if I didn't use the cruise control.

Translates to roughly 32.6 mpg. Nice.

Nice little engine compartment modification I did today - took 30 mins and I think looks great!
