  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

(#easy) You want a LED DRL on your US Genesis? Read on.

I'd like one too. It is also my understanding that if you switch the '15 brown wire from the amber dls to the white parking lights you loose front side marker lights - is that correct?

The side marker lights will only come on when the parking or headlights are on. They will be off when the DRL are on.

I did a write up and i posted it but it hasn't posted yet. hopefully soon.

srobak,
So if I am understanding you, without doing this "brightening" work on the headlights (bumper removal, electrical, etc.), I could just manually turn on my LED parking lights to use as running lights in the daytime, and then switch to regular lights for night driving? Untalented as I am, that would still be an improvement over the amber DRLs. Right? Tks.

This is correct. Parking light for daytime will give super-bright LED. Switch manually to headlight at night will give super-bright LED and headlight. Leaving in parking position - it will shut off with the car and opened door.

Can someone confirm if after doing this mod, the side amber accents (triangular) no longer light up when switching the knob? Mine aren't a lighting anymore ... Is this due to moving the wire over at the plug??
I know it’s over a year later but I just did this modification and yes if you move the Brown wire over to make the LEDs brighter, the amber side marker LEDs will no longer work. The trick to fix this is to have that brown wire connected to its original location as well as the empty location. This will Achieve brighter accent strip LED‘s in parking light mode as well as keep your amber marker light LEDs functional.

Sorry to ask a noob question. Where is this brown wire located ? I just got my hands on a 15 Genny and would love to do this to mines!

Thanks in advance for your help.

And have a few more guys lined up this coming week.

I put together a short video on the steps i took to remove the bumper/headlights and switching the one wire if anyone needs help with this project check it out...

Also i stated there are 4 bolts holding in the headlamps it is actually only the three on top!
p.s by no means am i a youtuber

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is it possible to tap a 12v acc line direct to the wire under the headlights? This would give the LED DRL’s constant power when the key is on. What am I missing?

You can’t do it like that.

I wish it was that easy. If you add constant 12v to it, they will remain in full brightness at all times + your amber DRL's will still be on so now you have two sets of DRL's. Then, I am curious to see what would happen if you turn the headlights on because you would be already feeding 12v to them plus now, the dim mode kicks in on top of 12v that is already connected to it. I am no electrician but seems like something might fry.

So here's my thought. Unplug the brown wire from the board under the headlight, and connect it to 12V acc. This would mean there would be a steady flow of 12v current whenever the key is on. The result would be bright LED's on at all times. It would not be affected by the headlights or amber running lights, and the LED's would never go to dim mode.
Thoughts?
