Electric GV70

Fyi... Here are links to three 4K videos of the facelifted GV70 that will be on offer as a 2025 model-year vehicle in the Korean market. The facelifted GV70 will likely hit the North American market in mid-2025 as a 2026 model-year vehicle.
Ceres blue is a new color from Genesis that looks pretty great, imho.
I wonder what the facelifted Electrified GV70 will look like?

Genesis GV70 Facelifted Standard Model "Ceres Blue Matte / Frozen Gray Two-Tone" Walkaround Review:

Genesis GV70 Facelifted Sport Package Model "Makalu Gray Matte / Sevilla Red Two-Tone" Walkaround Review:
I have mixed feelings about this refresh, although that's a matter of personal taste.

Pros:

- I like the glossy black finish on the ICE model's back bumper much more than the criss-cross pattern it replaces (Although I prefer body-colored like on the EV, it is still an improvement).

- The new 3D front grill pattern is interesting, but inapplicable to the EV.

- From one video of the rear quarters I saw what looked like cooled seats controls for the rear (Instead of just butt warmers like we have in the back).

- The rollers for radio volume and tuning are replaced with round dials, which are more intuitive and better placed.

- The upper door trim now lighting up can provide some more light inside at night, but may as well be perceived as a little too much by some, even starting comparisons with a Christmas tree.

Cons:

- I'm really not crazy about the new front bumpers, there's a lot more black expanse of plastic that's blocked out anyways and serves no cooling purposes whatsoever, hopefully the EV's face won't change too much in that direction.

- I find the big screen undoes a lot of the originality of the interior design introduced previously (They even had to move vents to the oval below it when they blocked them with the screen). I really like having a recessed instrument cluster under a hood that will prevent the sun from shining too brightly on that screen and make it unreadable (There's a good reason fighter jets are made like that too). We currently have that 12" instrument cluster screen plus the 14" infotainment, which already gives us 26" of screens. Going for that single 28" sun-reflecting screen of which some part is uselesss because obscured by the steering wheel, with a new so-so design for the speedometer (With no RPM in sight that I could see, weird for an ICE version), has no advantage whatsoever.

Overall I'm happy they're not messing too much with a winning formula, curious to see how that will translate to the EV version.

^ Wolf, I also have mixed feelings about the refresh.

Re Pros:
- I agree with all of your pros. One minor thing.. note that the current GV70 (for the Korean market at least) is available with ventilated seats for the 2nd row.
Here are a few of my own Pros I'll add to the list:
- I like that a digital rearview camera mirror will be available.
- I like that the refreshed GV70 will be available with automatic 24/7 front-view and rear-view exterior video & sound recording.
- I like that they've changed to amber-coloured rear turn signals / rear hazard flasher LED lighting in the main tail light clusters. I hope this new feature makes it to the North American refreshed vehicle.
- I like that they're finally offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
- I like the new location of the wireless phone charger.
- I like that they've switched from USB-A ports to USB-C.

Re Cons:
- I agree with your comment about the new front bumpers. But I do like the new rear-end styling.
- I completely agree with your criticisms of the new big screen. It definitely undoes a lot of the originality of the interior design introduced previously. The current model's recessed 12.3" 3D digital cluster and 14.5" infotainment screen are excellent.
- I noticed they changed the steering wheel design and reversed the location of all the steering wheel controls as compared to the current model GV70. In my opinion the steering wheel controls location should be standardized across all Genesis models.

I had not noticed the amber turn signals, that should be a nice touch.

I also like the rearview camera mirror, however by doing so they got rid of the kink in the top brake light, which I found was a rather unique visual signature as well.

Kudos for going wireless too (Though I got a dongle doing just that, it's nice that the car comes with it though).

Staying very competitive features-wise...!

Being reported that the EREV GV70 is set for production sometime in 2026 at the new HMG Meta plant.

Wonder if this means they will move BEV GV70 production there?

Can't see them producing the GV70 at 2 different US plants, so probably spells the demise of the pure ICE GV70 (unless they bring that over to the Meta plant as well).

Hyundai wants to expand Santa Cruz production (including for export to markets like Australia) with the next generation model, so that would fit in with the timeline of discontinuing GV70 production in Bama.

So my car is at the body shop, and for loaners they do business with Enterprise. I had a choice between a Buick Encore and an Audi A4, so I went for the latter...

First impressions: A bunch of basic controls are counter-intuitive (Including the shifter which looks like it can move in it's gate but doesn't really, it acts more like a pressure switch but stays where it is), an A/C that has a hard time cooling a smaller space than the GV70's, lots of plastics around (No knurled knobs here), a too thin-rimmed steering wheel and a lame engine. Oh and I read multiple times that steering feel is great on this car, it must not be so different on the GV70 because I couldn't feel the difference. It's probably different in the S4/RS4 realm, but the base car is just to get four rings logos in the grille and on the trunk, a base G70 is probably more entertaining to drive and a better cockpit to spend time in, hard pass for me.

I've been spoiled beyond redemption, 2 hours and I miss my car real bad, what are 2 days going to be like? 😉

i think you have the same HVAC system that I have on my GV60P. I drove BMWs prior to this and I continue to be amazed at how good the Genesis AC is in the hot arizona weather. If my car is sitting in the sun for five hours or so (which happens if I play at any course other than mine which has covered parking) I put the AC setting on automatic high (three dashes) and the temp at 70 and after about five miles or so I can turn the setting down to two or one dashes. It has cooled off my car that quickly. You do have a larger interior in the GV70 but it is not that much larger.

I have driven rental Audis but never an A4. I am surprised that the AC is that bad in the Audi. I am not sure whether I would prefer a Lada to a Buick...probably. A bit of a Hobson's choice but clearly the win goes to the Audi.

I have a 2023 GV60P and have driven an electrified G80 and an ICE GV80 as loaners. IMO Genesis has really gotten the formula down well. I don't see any falloff from the BMW world to the Genesis world in terms of quality and features with one exception: dealer service. BMW dealers are generally excellent; Based on this forum, Genesis dealers not so much. Some are great, some are terrible. I am one of the fortunate ones who has a dealer that so far has been terrific (Genesis of Scottsdale).

To sum up: yes...we are spoiled.

Yes, we do have the same HVAC system, it's not like Arizona here but the temps are hovering around 86F here these days, and I think the heat pump is a big advantage in that scenario.

I do see GV60's relatively often around here, they have a unique style and the Korean brands have made an amazing job differentiating products that use the same platform without sharing a single body panel (Ioniq5, EV6, GV60, they all look good in their own way and still are nothing alike)! That's a lot more than qe can say about some competitors (Yes I'm looking at you bZ4x/Solterra twins)!

Oh and yesterday I found the radio volume button in the A4 (I was using the steering wheel buttons but it was nowhere in sight). It's on the center console, near the passenger seat, on the other side of the shifter... I really wonder why they don't get slammed more than that in reviews for poor ergonomics.

About dealer service, here Genesis was originally a boutique in a mall, then they moved with Hyundai, and they will have their own separate dealership in a few months (Construction permit delays). They have already split the service, Genesis counter is in another area of the dealership. I'd say in my case service is good, but the overall experience will of course be better once they move to their own fancy decor, which will offer an ambiance more in line with what their premium competitors have.

Once you have driven the Audi for a while, you'll find the volume control being on the console is brilliant, as that is where your hand is a lot of the time

Yep, that volume knob is partly there for the passenger's benefit too, as the driver already has the scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

Just got the car back before lunch!

It took more time because the repair shop was sent the wrong part, but all is good now! I have to wait a few days for a car wash because of the wrap that's been freshly done this morning.

So glad to be back on those white cooling seats, the black leather seats of the Audi were really not a fun place to be in a heat wave.

I felt like hugging the car but refrained from doing that, it just would have looked weird. 😉

I agree but not only in a heat wave. I think light colored seats open up the interior and make it much more pleasant. I know that black interior hides blemishes better than white but I think the white/grey interior is worth the extra care and effort.

You're right, that dark blue (Almost black) headliner also helps make the white pop even more than if it was say of a gray color. In the Audi it was gray with materials that looked a lot like what I had in the RAV4, but the GV70's suede headliner is a class above, no match there.

FYI - For those eGV70 owners who were expecting the semi-annual navigation map update to be made available in April 2024, I've just learned that the new "System & Map Update" version 18.0 will be made available for Hyundai Motor Group vehicles in June 2024. Here's the link to the mapnsoft.com/hyundai FAQ webpage that provides this info:
Update on the update...
When I went to the mapnsoft website over the weekend I saw that the upcoming System & Map Update version 18.0 has been delayed again - they're now saying it's coming in July. It must be a fairly complex update, given that it's been delayed a couple of times now. The usual timing for semi-annual map updates (for Hyundai, Kia & Genesis products) is April and October.

In an unrelated (or perhaps very related?) matter, the Genesis USA website is saying that Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay is "coming soon" on the 2025 GV70 (ICE model). I wonder if that means it will happen via an upcoming software update, and if so, will it be available/applicable for all model-year GV70s? Hmmm....

Good question, one can only hope we get it too... The car already connects to the phone via Bluetooth for calls, it wouldn't be that far of a stretch to think that wireless Android/Apple can just be added to that, however there are different speeds to Bluetooth and that maybe where the hardware comes into play. It is possible the speed requirements are lower for phone calls than screen mirroring and that's where we might get screwed.

The misunderstanding continues...
Wireless CarPlay is not via Bluetooth. There is an initial Bluetooth handshake, then Bluetooth completely disconnects. Wireless CarPlay is via WiFi only. Bluetooth (in any form) would be too slow for video.

Makes sense, the fact the new GV70 supports wifi hotspots explains it, so I'll continue with my dongle (Which works fine).

FYI - Here's a copy/paste from a section of a Feb. 2024 Cars.com article on the topic of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto:

How do wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect to the car and the internet?

To replace the USB wired connection, wireless smartphone connectivity uses specific upgrades to the car’s multimedia system for a closed Wi-Fi connection with your phone. But in most cases, your phone still is using its cellular data connection to communicate with internet services (and could incur data costs depending on your phone plan).

Do they require my vehicle to have a Wi-Fi hot spot subscription?

No, an onboard hot spot is a separate feature. Hot spots let your devices go online using an onboard modem and its own cellular data connectivity, which generally requires a specific paid data subscription after a trial period.

What's the maximum indicated range you've seen on your GV70 Electrified?

I saw 445 kms several times and one time it showed 460 kms, which is 80 kms over the stated range of 380 kms. 460 kms is 286 miles. I'm impressed with this summer range. Of course I have not driven it till fully discharged, so its only the cars own estimate of its full range. I am charging at home on level 2 to 100%.

The max I saw was 437km (Eco), I do not know if that's realistic (Probably more in city driving, but certainly not on the highway). I'm not certain how it's calculated, if it takes into account your driving style (I do like to push it on an on-ramp, but otherwise it's rather relaxed).

I usually charge on Level 2 to 80%, only about once a month to 100% (So the occasions to see maximum range are rather rare). The car is 14 months old and just passed 20K km this week-end.

I did try a 350KW charger in Ottawa this week-end, the first time I found such a powerful one, but sadly Petro-Canada isn't great on maintenance because it was defective. I was the only one at the stall (No concurrent charging that would have halfed the charging speed), yet couldn't go faster than 135KW, in perfect weather conditions. The guy at the stall next to mine couldn't exceed a measly 30KW with an EV6 GT that should have been able to take ~240KW, as it has the same hardware as our cars...! Next time I go there I'll try the Canadian Tire 350KW chargers, see if they behave better!
