If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

I tried to unlock my car this morning after it sat in my garage for 5 days while I was away. Nothing. No response through the key nor the app. I had the ICCU recall done about 6 weeks ago but I doubt the issue is related. I know the HV battery is (or at least was) charging the 12V battery because the orange indicator on the dash is sometimes illuminated. I’ve got a 12V charger on the battery so I’m curious if the battery will take a charge, and even if it does how long it will last. With an ICE, even if the battery cooked at least the car will run off the alternator but with an EV I don’t think that’s the case. The earliest they can look at the car is on Monday but I don’t think I will drive until it gets a new battery.
I don’t usually lock the car in the garage but a couple of days before I went away there would be incessant notifications on the Genesis app that the car was left unlocked. Up until then after the car was turned off, there would be one notification that the car was unlocked. Just before the battery died there would be a door unlocked notification every 5 minutes and it wouldn’t stop until the car was locked. That notification issue may have been a harbinger of 12V battery doom.

Early Ioniq5's had a similar issue where 3rd party apps constantly pinging the car would drain its battery, they updated the server to stop after X requests to the same car on a given day. This looks like a very similar scenario...

^ Well, that kinda sucks.
If your battery isn't really cooked, I suspect that after you've had your portable 12V charger on the battery for a few hours you'll be okay to drive your car. I have a battery monitor permanently hooked up to the 12V battery in my eGV70, so I can check the battery's status whenever I'm in close proximity to the car. A little while ago I went out and started my eGV70. With the car ON (in Ready mode), the battery monitor app on my phone indicated the 12V battery was indeed being charged by the car and the charging voltage was 14.67V. I've included a screenshot of that below.

Like you, I also don't usually lock my eGV70 in my garage. But unlike you, I have the majority of notifications turned off/disabled in my Genesis Connected Services account, including the notification for "Door Unlock". Perhaps it was those incessant push notifications for unlocked doors from your eGV70 that ended up completely discharging your 12V battery.

Btw... Because of the stories I read about dead 12V batteries for those early adopters of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, I decided to buy myself a Gooloo 'Jump Starter Power Bank' about 9 months ago. I've never had to use the device (yet), but it's there in case I need it. I also carry the car's spare mechanical key in my wallet, should I ever need to get into my locked eGV70 that won't unlock with the key fob.
Hope your issue gets resolved asap - let us know how things go.

My 12V battery died while my car was at the PPF shop being wrapped and the car would not start. It was there for about 7 days, and when they tried to start it after finishing wrapping it, no go. They tried to charge the battery but the battery would not wake up from dead, as it is not a standard type of 12V battery (AGM or some similar type). PPF guy took out the 12V battery and drove it to the Genesis dealer with a 12V battery from their shop for dealer to fix it. Dealer using what they said was their $8000 charger (versus the PPF shop's $800 charger) was able to revive the 12V battery, no replacement needed, and it has been fine since.

I thought the EV battery was supposed to keep the 12V battery charged at all times, but obviously that is a fail. While at the PPF installer, the EV battery was always showing enough charge to drive the car over 200 km, so that was never an issue. I asked the head technician at the dealership to read the manual with me where it says the 12V battery is kept charged as long as the EV battery is charged, and we both agreed the manual wording was not clear. He said he would contact their tech line and get back to me on the subject, but he never did. I asked the service manager one time if the tech had gotten a reply, and he said not yet and that there are so many requests to their tech line that many queries do not get answered.

Car has been fine since.

My trusty ctek charger wasn’t able to charge the battery. The good news is that it is able to be jump started just like an ICE. At the dealer now.

I keep getting notifications on the app that the car is idling and it should be in a well ventilated area, LOL.

Is there a setup in the GV70 EV that allows the rear passenger doors to always open from the outside or inside when walking up to the car or getting out? Ours just always seems to lock the rear doors even with the interior button to unlock the doors in the unlock position (yellow LED off). Every time I park the car, get out and want to get something out of the back, the rear doors won't open. I can then open the front door and close it once or twice and then the rear doors will open. A solution would be greatly appreciated. I looked in the menus but did not find the answer.

This is strange, I just have to walk to a front door, touch the inside of the handle to make it unlock, but then the whole car is unlocked and I can open the rear doors without opening the driver door and fiddling with buttons. Mine is for the Canadian market, I couldn't say if there's a difference on door unlock operation with U.S. versions.

My car is Canadian.

When parking the car, getting out of the driver's seat and then standing beside the car, I can't open the rear passenger door. Same thing for a front passenger trying to open the rear passenger door after getting out of the car. No door locking involved.

Is this some auto locking feature that can be disabled? Of the dozens of cars I have owned, no car has ever done this.

That is indeed strange behaviour. Sounds like ALL doors aren't being unlocked when you place the vehicle in Park (P). I can't recall (and my eGV70 isn't available at the moment), but is this perhaps an Auto Unlock setting in Vehicle Settings? Suggest you go to Vehicle Settings and check the current setting for Auto Unlock. If that's not it then I think you'll need to set up a service visit with your local Genesis distributor.

Looks like the Electrified GV70 is leading EV sales for the brand:

I'm a bit surprised of this, because the GV60 is not as pricey. I only spotted two more driving around in my area, a Uyuni white and a Vik black (All others are ICE models).

A few weeks ago I saw my first matte white GV70, interesting color too...!

In Vancouver, there's a noticeable increase in the number of eGV70s out on the road. I was a little bit annoyed when I saw another matte white one in the same neighborhood where we live. But now that I'm in Alberta, I'm relieved that there are almost no eGV70s at all.... that is, until I saw (you guessed it) a matte white eGV70 right in front of my matte grey one in a parking lot. I do see ICE ones here of course, this being oil and gas country, but any type of electric Genesis model is a rare sight indeed.

I am not surprised. I am one of a relatively small cohort of car owners who prefer smaller vehicles. Most prefer larger vehicles and the GV70 is in the sweet spot for size (see Toyota Rav4, Honda CR-V, etc.). Also, the Electrified GV70 is still relatively new so I would expect sales to initiate higher as people who really wanted one can finally get one. Remember what happened with Jeep Gladiator sales?

Yes that's a very different automobile park than what you get in B.C.!

Spread the word, EV's work just fine! 😉

I also find it perfectly sized, big enough to carry all my junk, yet still manoeuverable and not a nightmare to park.

I'm just surprised it outsold the GV60, which is more attainable, price-wise.

I'm in New York, and I've seen four electrified GV70s, one belonging to a co-worker I convinced to get one. I see a substantial number of GV60s.

I get a lot of weird looks driving around Calgary and Edmonton in my car. I'm not sure if it's because it's an EV, because it's a Genesis, because it's matte gray (and clean most of the time), or if it's because of the BC plates.

Or maybe it’s your face tattoos? I don’t know what to tell you. I get zero funny looks. Plenty of EVs and BC plates here too.

Or maybe all of the above? 🤣

I did get some reactions (Especially at the bank where a guy asked to borrow a pen so his boss could sign his paycheck and said I did myself a nice gift), but not much, as it is very inconspicuous, looking so similar to the ICE version... It does tend to fly under the radar or be mistaken for a Bentley, even by a carwash guy.
