  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

After having bought 6 Genesis SUVs in the past 2-3 years, I'm not likely to buy another Genesis for a while. I will probably regret saying that though as the GV80 Coupe is growing on me. It also doesn't have a rear wiper but it does have the rear view camera. Only thing stopping me getting one is that it's still a gas guzzler without having quite enough power/speed to make up for it's thirst. The new CLE53 AMG (in matte grey) is looking pretty tempting actually.
I really dig the GV80 Coupe since day one, but have yet to see one in the flesh (Or sheetmetal). Although BMW started the whole segment over a decade ago with the X6 and others have followed, I always found these contraptions to look a bit odd, but the GV80 seems to be the first one to nail proper proportion and look sporty instead of a jelly bean on wheels. 👍

I had gone back to the body shop because there looked to be bubbles in the wrap on the piece that was replaced, a whole section of it looked shiny instead of matte but when looking up close, it was like a hundred or so tiny bubbles. When they took off the wrap, they saw the surface was still imperfect, and had to be repainted (Wrap may have been applied too quickly).

So they took out the piece last Friday to repaint and wrap it. I was driving without the bottom part of the passenger front door since then, and today it's been clipped back on and the car looks complete again. No hassle really, bad luck happens and they just redid the work, I'm happy with the end result.

Wife was making her rounds yesterday and got a tire pressure message with a flashing 8. She stopped at a nearby tire store and their gauge measured 33 pounds, so they added a couple. Light was off before she got to the dealership, which immediately took her right in. Checked the tire, scanned the OBD and told her she was good to go. We had just completed the OTA update the day before, but it wasn't a factor. Pressure has held 24 hours later.

This got me to thinking about tires in general and the lack of a spare tire. A lot of construction going on locally, and we have had a flat or two over the past several years. Her driving is almost totally around town, 10k on the GV70ev in the first year. I don't like the idea of standing on the side of the road waiting for road service. We've done that before and it was more than an hour. Any thoughts on the lack of a spare tire?

And just curious about replacement tires, which we don't need yet. Another year and we will probably replace the Michelin Primacy AS. Low resistance tires are not long haulers. These are boulevard tires, not competition, which is OK around town. Anyone swap their EV tires? If so, what did you choose and how did they impact range?

I have the same Primacy tires on my GV60 Performance model. I drive like I stole the vehicle but I was still getting excellent range. But I really disliked the tires as they just didn't grip around corners like they should have. So next week i am replacing all 4 tires with the HL rated Michelin Pilot Sport 4S ultraperformance tires (note I am in greater Phoenix so I can get away with summer tires; But the Pilot Sport all season tires get excellent reviews and will handle cool weather better).

I will be reporting back with my experience on them in the GV60 forum. But I don't do intercity trips so I drive all around the Valley and easily stay within the 20 to 80 per cent battery range. That means I won't be reporting much on range especially since I don't care about range. I bought the new tires for performance, not range, and I fully expect that range will drop materially. The GV60P is so much fun to drive I just wanted better grip.

I didn't swap my tires, I'm okay with what comes with the car, although when they're due for replacement I wouldn't mind something a bit grippier.

I didn't have any flat yet with the GV70 (Knock in wood), but the thought of not having a spare and being stranded did cross my mind, so for the next set I might aim for run-flats. You can still drive roughly 80km with a punctured tire, enough to get you somewhere else than the spot where the flat happened. On the other hand I wouldn't like that to alter negatively the handling and comfort of an otherwise very well balanced vehicle, so we'll see...

Hey all. I discovered today that the charging plug from my Emporia EV charger is not "locking" when I plug it into my eGV70's charging inlet and begin charging. In the vehicle's EV Settings the charging connector is set to automatically "lock" while AC charging, but it's not actually doing that (at least not with my Emporia's charging plug).
I checked, and the charging plug on the Genesis Level 1 120V EV Charger that came with my eGV70 does automatically lock in place when I begin charging. Similarly, the included V2L connector also locks in place when I plug it into the charging inlet.
I'm going to send Emporia Energy Support an email to enquire as to why the Emporia EV charger's charging plug isn't locking when I plug it into my Genesis EV and begin charging.
I'm wondering now if others here have had experiences with charging plugs not locking in their charging inlets, whether using their home EV charger or when using public EV chargers.

I had an issue with my Wallbox, the connector would lock and then the charging would stop after a few minutes and the charging lights would go red. I disabled locking from the car and it worked flawlessy since then.

It could be something stupid like the locking pin being offset by even 1mm on the charger's connector vs the car. Anyways I park in my own private reserved spot and disable the charger altogether when leaving for a few days, I'm not really worried about getting my electricity stolen.

Just a quick update for everybody.... I posted before about the ICCU in my GV70 electrified failing approximately 5 weeks ago (despite having the software recall done) and how it had to be flat-bedded to the dealership. Luckily I was close to home when it happened. I just received my car back yesterday with a new ICCU, fuse and 12 volt battery installed all under warranty and car is as good as new now. Genesis treated me well - they gave me 2023 G80 gas as a loaner for the full 5 weeks while my car was out of commission. Hopefully this doesn't happen again - I have heard the ICCU is a common failure point on early Hyundai group E-GMP cars. Would be really annoying if this would have had happened far from home.

Congratulations. As the saying goes...feces happens. What, IMO, is most important is how the seller deals with it. Yours appears to have dealt with it well. So far, mine has as well.

My dealer appears to have a large and adequate loaner fleet but the manager did tell me that they are all ICE vehicles. I see too many EVs around to suggest to me that there is inadequate demand for EVs in my market; my conclusion is that despite all the media crap, the dealers would rather sell all the EVs they can get rather than putting them into the loaner fleet. But, if that is my only complaint, I can certainly grin and bear it.

Good news that it's fixed! While my car was at the dealership for maintenance I also got an ICE G80, it's a pretty decent car. I prefer the front end of the G70 but the back end looks nicer than a 5-Series or E-Class IMHO.

I finally found some use for the trunk's 110V outlet. My daughter started swimming classes on Saturday mornings, so because the automatic hair dryers there are crappy, we're brining our home one and plugging it in the trunk! 😉

Having an all ICE loaner fleet simplifies things. If you need a loaner for a few days, no problem. If an ICE owner had to use an EV for a few days, it may be a problem as many have no idea what to do to charge it. The service guy does not have to match you with a particular car or have to teach someone how to care for it.

Don't know if anyone uses Tesla SC with Magic Dock for charging their GV70EV's, but just saw on a Volvo EV forum and Polestar EV forum that Tesla has disabled their Magic Docks for any non-Tesla cars. No official word from Tesla that I'm aware of, consider this a public service message if anyone is planning a road trip and using Tesla charging stations.

Tesla Magic Docks no longer working

Thanks for the info, I'm guessing this will get resolved when we all get access to the network (Either with an adapter or brand new car with a built-in NACS plug). In my case it doesn't change much, Tesla didn't deploy any magic dock in the province of Québec (We have plenty of other network chargers around).

There's a safety recall for that now; I just got a letter from Genesis Canada about that.

I already had two recalls for that, this would be the third one? 😯

Hey guys, just picked up my 2025 GV70E on Monday - I noticed I don't have wireless carplay/android auto and that the software version seems to be last updated from December 2023, and the update button is greyed out but says OTA is functioning. Just curious if that takes some time after the car gets registered to somebody or what?

You could download the update software and copy the update to a USB key, then install it yourself in the car (It requires roughly an hour to process), or if you're hesitant about doing the update yourself, just have the dealership do it for you (That's part of the free maintenance).

Oh and welcome to the family! 😉👍

Coles notes version of what the recall entails? Haven't checked my mailbox for about a week..... thanks!

Edit: No letter from Genesis in the mailbox. Interesting because I’ve already had both recalls, apparently for the same issue, completed.

The letter I got specifically refers to 2023 & 2024 GV60, GV70 EV, and G80 EVs. The Recall Reference Number is R0256.

Hope that helps!

Welcome! Is it the MY2025 ones that have the really wide screen? If so, how are you liking that so far?
