  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Engine falls flat on it's face

This issue is not particular to Hyundai, or even the Genesis. I drive very little and haven't had the opportunity to "check out" this car yet, but, my two previous cars had this problem, one a Hyundai (Azera) the other a Buick Park Avenue Ultra w/supercharger...... soooooo...... who knows for sure. It's a tough call IMHO.

I shut off the traction control tonight and made a world of difference . Try it . Your thoughts......

Gunk some us have had problems in a parking lot 1st gear . Ideas? ....

I have also had issue with the ESC. I had 3 close calls with my 12 3.8 GEN. NO power it kills the power when truning left or right. The ECS is not fully turned off even when i push the button for ESC off. The ESC system is programed WAY TO HIGH it's way to aggressive kicking in all the time. I never had a car like this. My Jag was great it gives you just enough slip with the ECS befor it starts to kill the power also when you trun off the ESC it IS FULLY OFF same with my Bmw.

Is there a ECM update or somthing because this is diffently not how it should be? :)

Out of curiosity, has anyone with the hesitation issue had their abs module replaced, and did it help the issue any? It almost sounds like its cutting power because it believes the tires are slipping when they aren't, which could indicate a bad tc module/programming.

Has anybody had an independent auto transmission company test drive the car & give their qualified opinion?

Well I just went on Hyundais website and sent them the following:

I am having problems with this car not being able to get out of it's own way in a parking lot on a few different occasions. As it is hard to duplicate service dept can't do anything. I am not the only one with this problem as I belong to a Genesis Forum and have people on there adressing the issue. Here is the link: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?p=122621#post122621. I would love to talk to one of your manufacterer service reps and try to resolve this problem. Thank you

Here is the canned message I received:

That's rich.

I won't go into the details of my relationship with various manufacturers and cars, BUT, I can tell you with some confidence that the condition is a reaction to MANY inputs to the ECU and TCU and their ability to process these inputs in a certain amount of time. You only get so much in VS so much out in a given time period. It is not a unique feature of these cars or any manufacturer. You will find that if you can resist the urge to "mat" the pedal and roll into it, you will see the car respond much faster. Dropping the hammer and engaging the "kick down switch" you feel at the end of pedal travel is only going to confuse the issue.

Everything they program is a trade off in the war between performance, smooth shifting, gas mileage, and long life. It's a question of:

I see this "event", so I check A, B, C, D, and then I do E, F, G, etc.

If the issue is somewhat helped by turning ESC off, then there should be a partial fix possible with the replacement of an ABS or speed sensor, but there is likely no 100% solution.

I would be ecstatic if these guys could just produce a copy of the AVN users guide (navigation manual) that I've been trying to get for over 2 months.

Fast thanks for your input . Ya just too much computer in all these cars today and as far as the dealer says if it doesn't throw a code or can't reproduce it then there's not much we can do. The nav system is an engineers nightmare . I prefer my 100.00 Garmin . more user friendly

if you need to move fast, put it into manual operation, cut the computer lag time.

If you're trying to move quicker in any direction other than forward, ESC will kill all power regardless so don't even bother.

What I normally do, right before I need to move fast step on it, dump it into manual once most of the down shifting occurred automatically, and adjust gears as necessary. No other way to get what you want out of this care as of yet. Gas mileage will suffer.

Hi All,
I'm not saying there is not an issue, it may be a mixture of speed sensors, gearbox & engine mapping & overall ability of the processor to receive and act on given input signals..
I have just covered 2000miles of all types of road, freeways, back roads and general town roadways.. Knowing the "falling flat" syndrome is lurking. I always used Manual when using an Onramp & entering freeways. At no time did I have any hesitation in acceleration.. I'm not trying to teach anyone to drive,
but after my first test drive & subsequent exploratory driving I decided that the
Manual change was the best bet when entering freeways.. On my recent travels I had no issues accelerating at any time.

In other words, either compensate for how the car behaves, or quit trying to pull out when dangerous to do so?
Couldn't agree more.
Btw, don't know if the car has Sport mode as mine, but it works as well as the pseudo-manny.

Tried that today felt better . I had been driving with the ESC off to be more responsive too just can't set the cruise .

Am I interpreting this correctly? If the ESC is off, the cruise will not set? If so, that's sooooooo crazy..... why would this be?

That is correct guess they are looking out for our safety.......

^Maybe I'm not understanding correctly, but I'm able to set the cruise with the ESC off.
