Why dooes the manual suggest we use quaker state oil as recommended to use ? Is it just a marketing gimmick?
Under the hood of my car is a sticker that recommends Shell Helix. At least Helix makes an ACEA A5 oil - Quaker State does not.

Why do you prefer pennzoil platinum over mobil 1 ?

Cost? PP is great oil for a good price. I've always liked Shell products, used them all my life. No real reason.

Do you use pennzoil platinum or ultra platinum most of the time ?

Wow this feels like a survey. 🙄

I changed my own oil from age 16 to 50, when I bought a G37. I used Pennzoil conventional oils until a few years after synthetic became popular, then began using that. At 50, my new wife convinced me to pay for oil changes. So for 10 years I always requested full synthetic, but got various oils from whatever Kwik Kar offered.

A year ago I realized I still have all the tools to change my oil so I began doing it again. Bought my G80 in November. I've only used PP on the 5 changes I've done in that time (I maintain 3 cars).

PUP is supposed to be better oil than PP, but it's more expensive and harder to find. So PP it is. I use quality filters, the WIX WL10033 on my G80.

I documented my oil change here.

Smart wife. I did the same until I bought a '91 Regal and the filter was a bear to get to unless you took off the right tire. After the second change I found it easier to pay the extra 20 bucks.
These days if I get under the car I may not be able to get back up.
I was also able to go to a local shop during work hours too. I'd just say "I'll be back in and hour".

Some of these questions and threads are beginning to sound like manufacturers surveys on attitudes and preferences on motor oils

LOL. Just use whatever oil weight and classification is in the owners manual regardless of brand unless you have a preference and all will be well with your engine.

I use 5w-30 Valvoline high mileage synthetic in my 2015 5.0 and the engine runs well with decent gas mileage. Good enough for me and it follows the owners manual specification. So just pick a quality well known brand of oil that meets the recommendation and save your brain power for more important matters in your life.:)

how do you know
Why wouldn't they? Save their oil for themselves - they usually leave an unused partial quart sitting in the floorboard.

So i just found out the idiots at the dealership used 5w-20 instead of 30 on the 3.8 L. I am changing my oil asap, how can certain dealerships do the opposite, if the car(engine) requires 5w-30 put it! A fresh oil of pennzoil 5w-30 and shell v power gas , should do.

It is OK in the 5.0 but not listed for the 3.8.
For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of
a viscosity grade SAE 5W-20 (API SM & ILSAC GF-4 (or above)).

OBO it won't kill the engine but not good for it, especially in a hot climate. As others stated, any name brand full synthetic 5W-30 will work.

A dealership replaced the engine oil with conventional oil back in January 2020 with 32127 miles . I bought the car a few months ago with 32400 miles, so not driven much, conventional oil has been in for about 9 months. What should i do ? Replace it with full synthetic oil as soon as possible or just wait 3k miles than replace? Someone said you you go by months if you dont drive a lot of miles, dont want old oil in for long. I cant believe they even used conventional. I need very good suggestions on what to do members ?
Your owner's manual specifies API-SM or ILSAC GF-4 motor oil. Not sure if conventional oil matches the specifications. A safe bet is to match the specifications with a fully synthetic motor oil. Good luck!

Curious, what year model is that manual from? I've got the '19 3.8 and that manual specifically states ACEA-A5. It doesn't list API or GF-4 except for down in the footnotes - and only if "ACEA-A5 is not available in my country".

The 3.8 has been around for years so this is obviously just a push to ACEA-A5 for the minimal MPG gains it might offer. And sadly, Quaker State doesn't even make an ACEA-A5 oil!

This manual is for 2016 models.

Well, ACEA-A5 is more of a European oil rating system, so not all oil makers will test in that oil rating system. The information you posted stated a API SM or ILSAC GF-4 or higher oil is acceptable if a ACEA-A5 oil is not available. Quaker State 5W-30 synthetic oil is an ILSAC GF-5 oil, so it will do the job.

However, it is funny that Quaker State oil is recommended but a ACEA-A5 oil is desired in which Quaker State is not approved as.

Correct. ACEA-A5 has to do with better mileage, not better engine protection.
Quaker State also has a marketing agreement to be mention in the manual.

It also seems like ACEA-A5 oil also means that the oil remains stable for a longer duration which is best used for extended oil change intervals as well as better fuel economy based on the website information of the oil specification. So it does protect the engine better when using oil with extended oil changes I assume.

I will never know since I will still change my oil every 4k miles tops.

Get ready for a great oil change story! Call my dealer to arrange for first oil change on my 2020 3.3 Sport G70. I ask if I can be assured they will use synthetic oil. "NO" I am immediately told because "your car was specifically designed to run on non-synthetic oil and it would not be good to use synthetic." I told the service tech that was utterly absurd. We argued, I finally said can I pay to have you use synthetic? "NO, because using synthetic oil will void your warranty" This man was not joking! So, if I want to have them change the oil I have no choice but to use cheap oil! If you plan to take advantage of free service Genesis advertises, do not purchase your car from Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Rockville, Maryland. Be warned.
