  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

February 2019 sales

^ You keep mentioning that 2020 is a refresh but everything I have read says it is a redesign so wouldn't that be a new generation? I have not been following the G90 closely so could be misunderstanding what is being done.
The center shell of the car and interior remain the same. Only the parts ahead of the windshield and tail lights have been altered. There are some pictures and videos online. That approach is often referred to as a mid cycle refresh or more commonly called a facelift. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I have seen the pictures and some videos but to me it looks like a new version/generation especially since all of the articles mention a redesign. Guess it really doesn't matter as it is a change regardless of what it is called.

TB, the 2020 G90 is a heavy cosmetic (sheetmetal) refresh.

The redesign is about 1.5/2 years away (Korean market timetable), but should carry over many of the same elements exterior-wise; the interior, however, should be quite different.

You proved my point, Genesis copycatted others with this refresh, you even included a picture of the Elantra.

Didn't prove your point.

The Genesis pentagonal-grille is different from Acura's.

And even if we are to say they copied; then did they copy from Acura or did they copy from Mazda or Cadillac?

And did Acura copy from Cadillac, or was that Mazda?

Take a few minutes to look at a Bentley Mulsanne (standard setting, no copycatting) and see if you find all of that gimickry styling on it in order to get attention (even its fender vent is way more controlled). Check youtube videos on the design of the car and why each line is what it is. Simplicity is the greatest form of elegance, the current G90 follows that (cohesive design front to back).

While I'm all for clean lines in design, the current US spec G90 is bland and boring.

While the facelifted sheetmetal isn't for everyone (and can be polarizing), it has a lot more presence than the G90 pre-facelift.

There are things I don't like about the facelift, but can see what the designers were going for (the old-school luxury yacht-look).

Based on the spy-shots, think the designers are dong a better job w/ the same basic design elements for the new G80.

I know there are ex Bentley employees at Hyundai, that is why I am shocked at the 2020 G90 styling. No one mistakes the front end of Lexus cars either, but it is not because they are good looking.

People used to mistake the front ends of Lexus models for other automakers all the time before Lexus went w/ the spindle grille.

Speaking of which, not exactly original.

And all of the cars you quote were designed with those elements, not refreshed with them while keeping the same overall body design (akin to excessive plastic surgery). Like I said at the beginning of my post - Genesis coupe refresh a few years back made the car look worse.

The G90's facelift aligns w/ the new Genesis design language that debuted in the GV80 and Essentia concepts. so it's nothing new/different.

They just are making the facelifted G90 fit more in line w/ the rest of the lineup; which is no different than Lincoln tacking on a new grille design (again) and other things on the MKZ and MKC to align w/ the design of the Continental.

Or for that matter, when Lexus tacked on the spindle grille on facelifts, including for the LS460.

By contrast, creative styling on coupes is good (Lexus LC500, Ferrari 488, Lamborghini Aventador, and yes, the Bentley GT and new Astons).

Eh, the Lexus grille , as stated, isn't exactly original and neither is the organic-look that Lexus went w/ the LC500.

The Aventador basically borrows heavily from the stealth fighter.

The 488 is one of the uglier Ferraris and those long/stretched headlights have been done before.

Recent Aston design have been a hit or miss.

The DB11 is just bland and doesn't have the sensuous lines and cohesiveness of prior Aston designs.

The Vulcan is better, but nothing we haven't seen done before.

I'd take the design of the Essentia concept over many of the aforementioned.

Which has many of the same design elements as the facelifted G90 (just better done); would, however, revise the shape of the grille a bit.

Enjoy your 2020, I will continue looking for a 19 or wait for a full redesign that flows better. Genesis should aim higher with their flagship sedan, just my opinion.

Never stated that I particular liked the G90's refresh; just stated that it, at least, has more presence than the pre-face-lift version.

The next gen G90 should be getting the full-fledged Essentia-treatment, so the design should be more cohesive.

So, what ever happened to the rear of the G90 looking like a Lincoln?
