  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, it's time for my first oil change. I going to Mobil 1 w/Hyundai filter. I'm strictly a DIY oil changer and would like any tips from those that have done this already. I've changed oil in many cars and they all have their quirks. I assume the Genesis is no different. Thanks in advance.

The oil change will be one of the easiest you have ever done with the oil filter on top...

The drain bolt is accessible without removing any covers - so that is a plus.

It really is quite easy.

Filter on the top? Sweet. Do I have to jack the car to get to the drain? Jacking points for floor jack?

At what mileage are you changing it?

First oil change for me. I bought used 3.8 Tech. w/fresh oil about two months ago certified from Hyundai dealer with 10K. Just want to get on my schedule. Currently using ??? oil.

Since the clearance is tight, you will need to rais the car- preferrably all 4 tires for level oil draining- about 4" to get underneath. Remember, it hold 5.5 quarts, so make sure you have a large resevoir to drain into.

Fwiw, I have four ramps I cut from a long 2x6 I use for stuff like this. I bought a long board and cut it into four 2' and four 3' pieces, then nailed the 2' pieces onto the 3' pieces. Place all four ramps in front of the four wheels, back up a bit, and drive up them to get a quick extra 4" ground clearance.

Thanks for the links. And mmmmmmm......I am (a) Mark and totally confused by the humor. Like most forums of which I am a member (Vette,Honda SOHC4 bike) I assume the oil thread is a well beaten dead horse eh?

Actually, its a big mystery, since everyone's oil dipstick reads high at 5.5 qts, but that's what the manual states is the correct volume. When you do your oil change, I'd suggest 5qt to start, then run and check the level, then add .5 qt to get to the factory recommended volume despite what the dipstick reads.

Mark888 is another poster here that ppl are referring to.

Very good advice. You can always add more, but subtracting is much harder.
bozo4onion - read the other posts about the V6 you'll learn about everyone's frustrations with the dipstick level. Then you'll come away with more questions than answers, enjoy.
