  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was getting a creaking/tapping noise, just one creak at a time when i went over light bumps. It was not from the impact but fron a flexing of the roof area. I thought I had traced it to the rear dome light but that was cose but no cigar. It's hard to pinpoint by listening to it. It sound like its further back like the sun shade but its NOT THE SUNSHADE. I reached back and pushed up on the headliner just to the right of the rear dome light while driving and it would not creak. I also sat in the back when parked and pushed up hard in that area and could reproduce the noise. What i did to to FIX it was remove the rear dome light and let it hang, then stuffed a large amount of foam rubber between the cross menbers and the headliner, mostly on the right side of the rear dome light but put some on the left for the hell of it. I got some scratches on my wrists sticking my hand up in there and the head liner buldged just a bit,not noticable. I did both front to back and left to right crossmenbers. I also put some above the two plastic tits on the dome ass. befor i put it back in,to keep plastic from touching plastic, just in case. MAKE SURE THE SUN ROOF SHADE STILL OPENS and the foam does not interfere with it,if so jam the foam down fully between the crossmember and the headliner. This put a stop to this sound, it took me like 20 min. I'm glad I did it the noise was driving me nuts. I may have had the only car with this problem but i doubt it,maybe a bad weld. Good Luck

Thanks for sharing not only your problem but your detailed fix! I currently have not experienced the creak but who knows what may happen after the car loosens up. At least know I have a fix! Thanks again for sharing.

After 5-6 months my Genesis developed this noise. I was planning on taking it to the dealer, but I will try your fix first.

MUCH THANKS! :)

Sorry to bring this back from the dead... I have what I think is the same creaking noise in my 2012. It creaks quite a bit from the rear window area when the body flexes over bumps/driveway etc.

How does one remove the dome light?

Just as an FYI, keep the moonroof seal lubricated as well; that thing squeaks a fair bit in cold weather.
