Don't bother with the dealer. Most techs don't have leatherworking and upholstery experience & most supervisors are incentivized to take your money, not to deliver excellent customer experiences. They take the easy path and replace part or all of the seat. A few of the smarter/better dealers will farm it out to a local shop, but that doesn't come cheap when you're also paying the dealer's profit.
So take it to an auto upholsterer who does this sort of work for a living. There are plenty of good ones out there and you're not the only customer of theirs with this problem. Find car show or cars and coffee on the weekend (if you're already in snow, just look on facebook and instagram) and talk to the owners who've had custom work done. They've spent thousands on their interiors. Just one seat may be a couple hundred dollars, but it will come out better than the day it rolled off the factory floor, and last longer too.
