  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

flutter @ 25-30mph

Can anyone whose had the driveshaft/propeller shaft replaced share how long it took? I don't want to initiate this repair at my dealership and be stuck in a rental for a trip coming up. Is it a 1 day turnaround kind of repair?

The driveshaft installation only takes a few hours to complete, but I had to wait about a week for the parts to arrive. They put me in a brand new G70 for a week so I was pretty happy.

Reached out to my service adviser today that helped me previously. Originally they had identified that the driveshaft assembly was the culprit of the fluttering noise but the CPO warranty inspector wouldn't authorize the near $1,700 replacement cost because their didn't seem to be a serious fault situation with that part. They were able to sway instead for a full transmission replacement which was way more expensive (like $5,000 in parts and labor.) I guess the tech and manager were able to diagnose an issue with the tranny that the CPO warranty inspector also confirmed warranting the replacement.

I'm going to personally reach out to the CPO warranty with a video recording of the sound and reference this thread detailing many users issues with the flutter and how to fix it in the hopes that it will warrant a driveshaft replacement. I guess the original argument from the CPO company was that although the driveshaft is causing the noise it's not detrimental to the vehicles functionality or operation, whereas my transmission had an issue that was. I'll keep everyone posted.

I just noticed the flutter the other day while bringing it the dealer for a long list of other things. Of course, they said they couldn't duplicate the problem.

Has anyone in this thread had the driveshaft replaced to fix the fluttering issue under the Hyundai Protection Plan second party warranty? I ask because I bought my Genesis used and the initial inspection by the HPP rep denied the replacement.

I have had several drive shafts, new rear diff, new transfer case and still the same. I wanted a new transmission but they won't authorize that. Only other thing would be front diff. I still think it could be engine mounts but they don't. Going in Wednesday for new tires. I don't need tires but have to try for piece of mind. Interestingly, it got down to 12 degrees here and things seemed better. Also, i have nitrogen filled tires, I don't think it should matter but gonna go with regular air on Wednesday. I get a random highway vibration at times also. No pattern. Willy nilly. So I am also getting the new tires road force balanced to make certain there is nothing with weights, rims or possible tire issues. Holding out hope maybe tires will lessen it.

Last time I was at the dealer I asked to test drive a brand new car, it did the same dang thing. It's definitely some design flaw or part design issue. The new car was more faint but I know when and how to get it and it's there. So I will just live with it for now and see how the new tires work. The price drop in depreciation almost makes it impossible for me to consider just moving on. The tire excuse is beyond ridiculous with the flat spot theory. But I find the Primacy MXM4 horrible in the snow to the point of them being dangerous so getting them off there and trying something new.

And someone asked about getting the drive shaft Balanced, I had that also. No difference. I suspect over time I will get the clicking noise back since this can't be right mechanically. Had at least 40 cars, never had flat spots from sitting except old school bias plys and never had any car with vibration like this. Sometimes I would call it violent. Lately it's been more mellow.

What speed are you getting the vibration? I drove my genny this weekend . First time since November, and after driving for a couple hours I noticed vibration come and go. 67mph to 83mph,come and go . The frequency would change sometimes you could hardly feel it. It feels like a tire vibration to me?

I get same vibration, only at 68mph plus. Like you said willy nilly, comes and goes.

I went ahead and got my new tires today. My Michelins were like brand new still. I seriously cannot believe the difference. THIS is what a luxury car should feel like. I will wait for tomorrow morning to see how the 28 MPH vibrations are. There is still a very slight vibration on the highway at higher speed, but that just could be normal road issues? Not sure. Could be mechanical. Will pay attention tomorrow but right now I feel a significant improvement. To me, the issue with vibration still seems to be in the front end.

What tires did you go with?

Yes, my highway vibrations are about in that same zone, 68+ and will just come and go. And sometimes it was really bad. Did not happen on my usual route coming home but will give it a few days and make sure its just not mental.

Went with the Vredensteins. Really smooth and quiet compared to the MXM4. And my car only has 24k miles.

$700 installed and out the door.

I will put the Michelins up for sale and get some of that back.

Thanks ! I believe that is where I my vibration comes from . The rear tires are about 3 and a half years old but still have good amount of tread remaining. After my 1000 mile road trip the other day I think my problem is from tires. You really get a good feel for a car after you drive it 16 hours straight. Thanks for all of your input dboz1031.

No, I have AWD so left it squared so I can rotate. Also went from Nitrogen to AIR.

Well, I can't believe the Michelins are THAT bad, but they must be because I noticed a SIGNIFICANT instant change on the highway. My car is enjoyable again. I will see what tomorrow bring on the 28MPH and check the highway after sitting over night. I think those MXM4's are just junk.

That's good news. I am seriously thinking about new tires myself, and now what you just stated gives me a good direction to go.👍
