  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fog Light Harness in the 3.8L?

That's awesome, losboricua! Thank you very much!

No problema! That is why we have a community, to help each other. Next task after I get the Camaro ready for summer cruising are the door sills.

I'd like to say thanks as well, your post was informative enough to let me know that this install is beyond my capabilities and saved me some money and headache.

Curious if there's a similar guide to changing out the amber LEDs in the headlights? I have a base model so mine doesn't even have the HIDs.

It is actually not hard at all. if you take your time it should be pretty easy. Patience is key. Yea I'm not sure yet about the Amber LED change out but it should be easy. I have done it to other cars. I'm actually maybe swapping the headlights for the KDM's next year.

I just realized there's one important problem, for me, with running the fog lights continuously while the ignition is on. If I stop somewhere - shut down and leave the stereo on - the LEDs will be draining the battery as well. That might not be a good idea. So it's beginning to sound like it would be a better idea to have a switch of some sort. But I certainly don't want something cut into interior of the car... I would want to keep it classy...

All you have to do it turn the headlight switch to OFF instead of auto when you stop. By doing so, it will kill all the lights.

Okay. One more question... If I turn the headlight switch to OFF - but then back to AUTO again - will the LEDs come back on if the car is not running but the ignition is still ON for the stereo? The reason I ask is if I don't turn it OFF and then back ON right away - I'll forget to turn the lights back to AUTO again later - and this would defeat the purpose of having automatic lights...

Yes, because the way are cars are setup is that if the ignition is ON and Auto on the headlight switch and it is dark out, all the lights will come on regardless if you have the fog lights.

So finally after having the parts sitting on my work bench for almost a month, I was able to finally install the fog lights. It took me about 5 hours of work because I was taking a bunch of pictures and trying to figure out how to remove stuff properly since nothing is available online.

I decided to wire up my fog lights to the LED headlight strip. So they will come on with just the LED strip or with the headlights on. I'm not worried about the High Beams, because I barely use them and in Ohio, our cars don't get inspected.

I created a somewhat detail How To for the Fog Light install. See the link below.

Very kind of you to provide so much detail about your install. I look forward to following your instructions in the future, but have my fog lights project on hold for the time being. Well done!

I have had much interest in reading about installing the fog lamps, so much so that I decided to take the plunge myself. If you go to eBay these days you will notice that many of the fog lamp sellers are also selling the connectors also. My seller said they were custom made. but they came in a Hyundai bag - complete with a part number. Although there are many sellers I used the one in the link below. He shipped immediately and the fog lamps arrived within a week.

For a wiring harness I opted for a simple solution (thinking that if I wanted to improve upon this I could do it later). All I did was buy a voltage monitor DRL controller. I thought having the lights on all the time would be OK. FYI - the lights are only 22 watts (hardly a large amount of light for a fog lamp). At 12 volts nominal, each lamps draws about 1.8 amps (fairly small). I guessed that anything with a 5 amp fuse would be OK.

The wiring instructions for this are fairly straight forward - connect to the connectors and the battery jumper posts (actually just use the bolts/screws next to them) and you are done.

The physical installation was really not that difficult. I did not remove the bumper - it gets a little tight in there but it is manageable. As has been mentioned in one of the posts, one of the threaded posts for the lights is difficult to reach (this is in installation, the removal of the plastic panel is a breeze). If you have a magnetized socket wrench extender or, if you do as I did and just use a little electrical tape to hold the nut on, you can reach the post with the nut.

Installation for me took about six hours. It would have been shorter but I was a little slow on the wiring. If you do this install, remember that LED lights are sensitive to hooking up the positive and negative leads correctly. After all the light is supplied by a diode which needs the voltage drop applied in the correct direction to operate. However, the connector wires are not labelled as such - so after some frustrating tests where one or the other light did not operate, I finally remembered the sensitivity to wiring the positive/negative leads. Duh.

I wanted to point out that I am not very experienced on working on cars, so if I can do this I would expect most people could also. They are in and they look great. I think I would want them in even if they did not light up - they kind of complete the look of the front end. :D

Thank you, EJB. This discussion is really becoming a valuable resource for anyone without LED fog lights. If I end up with a V6 I'll definitely be referring to this area. If I end up with a V8, I'll be trying to figure out how I can get the LED fog lights on while the headlights are off...

I finally installed my OEM Fog lights by simply runnning wires to the fuse box and tapped off the headlight washer and put an inline 20a fuse. Then I made a connection to the ground. I picked up the correct connectors from amazon. Using a lift at my buddies shop I removed the bottom, front engine cover which made it real easy to take out the dummy plates and install the lights. The whole job took 35 min. The lights go on when the car is running and shut of when the car is shut off. No switch or relay is used. They stay on whether the DRL's are on or Auto and even Hi-Beams are on.

Thank you joeyz400. I got rid of my DRL controller and just tapped off the ignition coil fuse with an Add-a-Circuit tap. Works perfectly. :D

can I hire you to install m y fog lights I too am in the NY area

Good question. I wonder how difficult that would be. It would be nice and certainly aesthetically pleasing inside the car...
I purchased the stalk last week from E-Bay a nd it took a half hour to install The air bag is held in place with spring clips there are acess holes on the bottom and top of the steering wheel. I also purchased the wiring harness which has connections for the front park sensors and fog lamps both came to around 300 dollars when installed thats all you need the car circuit is in place. the indicator on the dash lights with the stalk switch on
