If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fog Lights Melting

The question I have is why you replaced the bulbs in the first place. Was it to get better fog lighting with a yellow bulb? In too many cases, I see people replacing their fogs to get another set of headlights which are really blinding.

I replaced the stock H8's with the Nokia 2500K Yellow bulbs because Yellow cuts through fog and haze better than white (or blue which is the opposite of yellow) and because I like the look of yellow bulbs combined with the white HID headlights. (Blue is the very worse light you can put on a car).

I would rather that Hyundai designed the lighting system so that the "Fog" Lamps would come on with only the parking/position lamps, however on the Genesis, you must also have the headlights on to put the fog lamps on. If you are truly driving in the fog, the headlight will reflect light back to your eyes, but if fogs could be on without headlights, the yellow light would cut through the fog haze better, plus they are lower and would not reflect back into your eyes.

I have two H7 Yellow bulbs sitting in a box, and I once was thinking of installing them in my High Beam, but then decided "Nah", better not. The stock white H7's do a good job on high beam.

Lastly, the stock H8 white fogs do nothing to help you see better at night. I think Hyundai put them there just for show. Another reason I like the 2500K Yellow H8 is to be seen, not to see. (I have HID's [and H7's] for that).

After FLAMING the other day, I realized that my housings...even with the 35W HID yellows installed...they are MELTING AGAIN....I have come to the conclusion that the lights are useless. So to make them even more useless here is what I'm going to purchase. Its cheaper than buying the factory housings.

and yes, I have ANOTHER case number!

What is the approximate light color?

What is the approximate light color?

Thats a great question!

I sent James an email (KAI-Sheerwood Automotive Owner) asking him.

If its a soft blue...we can get away with it...however, if its any deeper than sky blue I feel a ticket coming on.

THANKS FOR POSTING THAT QUESTION MARK!!!

If it IS a deep blue, I will just have to construct a set with my burnt housings. Shouldnt be too hard since I have done similar projects before. I can do some pretty cool things with a soldering iron! ;)

Man Ping you're a sucker for problems huh? Maybe try to sway away from the 3000K fogs etc, they produce a TON of heat. I just installed two HID kits today actually in friends cars/trucks. One, I did at his request 6000K headlights (he had a previous truck with 10,000k's) and then did his fogs with 3000K fogs. It doesn't seem that he likes the fogs at 3000k, so I think he will eventully match his fogs with his 6000k headlights, but time will tell. I still have yet to actually hear, see, or know anyone besides on this forum that has had your problem...

Wish you the best:)

P.S. I'm still runnin' 4300K in my fogs and have had no problems at all.......

This reminds me of some Hondas earlier in the decade - they came with light housings that would bubble and melt with factory bulbs. Honda ended up changing the housing materials one year but never admitted any problem with the housings. Very few people got Honda to even talk to them about it, much less replace their lights.

Good luck with your case though!

Ping...for the love of the Genesis world keep up updated on the led purchase. If you give them "good stars" I'm sure many hear will follow?!? LOL

I guess you are French - yellow lights

I guess you are French - yellow lights

Even though I am Second Generation Italian, and speak Italian, I much rather vacation in France. Only know enough French to not starve. Up until around 2000 or 2001, before France joined the EU, it was mandated that cars in France use Yellow Headlights. Well, the EU mandated that many things in each EU country must be the same as all the other EU countries. One of those things was White Headlights. So, about that time, cars started being delivered in France with White Headlights, vice the Yellow Headlights that had been used since before WW2. Another change was it was now legal to drive with your headlights ON, in the cities. Previous to that, even back when I would go on leave to France in the late 50's, early
60's, only "parking lights" (I like the term Position Lights) were used in cities, because there was plenty of light from street lamps, etc. Paris is not called the "City of Light" for nothing.

Up until 2001, although I would also visit Italy, I always felt that Italy was dirty, and France was much cleaner, and would always head back to France as quick as I could. (Northern Italy was cleaner than Southern Italy though).
Well, since Italy joined the EU, they have cleaned up their act also. The air, is now clean, as well as the roads, and most important, the AutoStrada Rest Areas, which at one time were so DIRTY, you did not have to ask where the rest rooms were. All you had to do was to follow your nose. I last visited Italy (Sicily) two January's ago, and was very surprised at how clean it was compared to just a few years previous, but still not as clean as France. Will probably go back to France in 2011 for somewhere between 3 to 7 weeks.
I will lease a Renault from www.renaultusa.com as I've never had problems with that company. If I could afford it, I would rather lease a Peugeot 607, beautiful car, but my Renault Laguna will do just fine. (I always lease, never rent).

BTW, the trick to liking France is to stay away from the big cities (Paris) and to enjoy the countryside. I land in Paris, pick up my car, and leave as quickly as I can. I sometimes to to Normandy, or Nord (North) or Burgundy, or the area of the Drome. Sometimes to the Alps, spending a lot of time in a beautiful small city called Annecy, just south of Geneva Switzerland. The only cities I venture into are Annecy and Dijon. Try to stay away from large cities.
