  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Free Map Update Is Here!!!!!!!

finished the update, no problems... didn't have time to play , no idea what changed,,

all presets are lost and phone book is wiped...

Mine took about 4 hrs they said. Left at dealer because couldn't get before closing.

Hey Hy-Tech, I paid for the update and they had to keep it over night. When I picked it up I noticed no change whatsoever. I didn't even lose presets in the nav..... how can I tell if they really did the update?

I noticed those same things on the iPOD menus. Has anything else changed?
It would be nice if there was a list somewhere that explained what the updates are.

Got an email from my Genesis Technician today (not the Service Writer, but the Tech) and he said that they received the four new discs, (Promotion P06) and that my car is included in the update. I'm going to visit them tomorrow (not for the update, just to visit).

Because I will be out of circulation for a couple/few weeks due to an operation I am having next week in Ocala, I will wait until I recover, and only then, will I contact my dealer and make an appointment to have this Promotion P06 done. (I'll be out of circulation, but still on the computer and this BB).

I hope to be recovered by October, and get Promotion P06 done, so I can visit the family in Penfield NY that month, before the snow flies in November. If my recovery takes longer, I still hope to go out to Roswell in December or January with the new update.

I am confused as "wallymn" said that all presets lost and phone book wiped, however
"Matt Z" says that he saw no difference and did not lose the Navi Presets. How about it "Shutterpro"? Did you lose any pre set information??

When the day comes that I do take mine in, depending on the above answers, I may just write down what I have preset in the system. Addresses, am/fm/xm presets, etc.

BTW, did I say that I Love My Dealer Service Department, Service Writers, and Genesis Technician? I visit them, 30 miles away, vice visiting my closest Hyundai Service Department only 12 miles away.

Just got car from having nav update done and I must say I see not one change. My presets didn't even change. How do I know if the update was really done. What is suppose to be different?

the 09 sedan update, part of p06 campaign... does warn all presets would be lost.

weird think my phone auto resync via bluetooth, I didn't have to setup the connection again.

Nav Data should be 4/30/2010 and I did lose all my previous setups.

Well...Hyundai has had my car since 7:00am this morning. I just got off the phone with them and they said it should be ready by lunch tomorrow....

I was promised a 3.8 track coupe as a loaner while they fixed mine but as the dude was pulling it around he clipped a curb and popped the front tire and boogered up the wheel....BAD! Ha! Typical! So now I'm am stuck in a used Dodge Charger 2.7 v6 that SUCKS and smells of pipe smoke.

Anywho, the map update is the main reason for the delay but I had several things done:

Map updates
4-wheel alignment
Rotate the tires
Oil change
Radio noise investigation
Cooled seat fix
And any and all TSB's (3 I think)

Well, i will update tomorrow.

I would be interested in knowing how they fixed your cooling seat problem.

Pinggolf,

Similar story here... Dropped off my Genesis at 8:45 this morning and as of 4 pm they were still running the first disk!! Not sure what time they actually started with it though, but they were definitely surprised it was taking so long. Lets hope they are at least doing it correctly.

They gave me an 8 cylinder Genesis as a loaner. Fun to drive and definitely faster than my V6. One small weird thing though: The seat does not move back as far as the seat in my V6 Genesis.

I also asked them to look at my cooled seat (which doesn't seem to be getting as cold as it used to). They said they compared it to the newer Genesis models on the lot and mine cools better than they do. Doesn't sound very scientific.

Also having broken fog light replaced, angle of headlights raised, seat buckles swapped in the back seat, and small paint deflect looked at, steering wheel noise examined and any other TSBs... I skipped the very intermittent stereo problem since (a) it has only happened twice and (b) a lot of negative reviews on this board about replacing amplifiers.

I had my car serviced at the local Tallahassee dealership yesterday and was told [1] I don't fall within the promotion and thus can't have the complimentary install, [2] there are serious problems with the discs/install and that 90% of the attempts result in problems -- and that Hyundai is aware of this. They suggested that I wait until the dust clears.

What do y'all make of this?

I am curious about some of the responses posted here. It would seem if the install was properly performed (or performed at all) the pre-sets would be wiped -- correct?

Does anyone else get the impression that something strange is going on with this update; some of the technicians may not be savvy enough at many of these dealerships to properly complete the updating process. Any indication of a 90% problem (if accurate; it may have simply been drivel to get me out the door until they can figure out what's going on) suggests human error problems at the dealerships to me.

Had my appointment yesterday, I should say what a great disappointment.
I went in for the ems recall and at the same time the Nav update. After leaving the car there for 8 hours, I called to see if it was ready.
I had my son drive it back since I was driving my other car(stick shift).
When I got in it, the Nav system was flashed and now dead. Also, they must of had the car running while doing it because my gas gauge was showing a half a tank with only 130 miles.
They were closed when I called them, so I showed up this morning early.
They state that they need to contact the regional supervisor(Monday) and order the original disk, if not order a new Nav. System.
I cannot believe the customer service there.
My steering wheel was left dirty, my gas was used up and my NAv. system now dead.
Good one for Hyundai.......
I am not happy, they want me to spend $270.00 for the update.
WRONG......
If your going to have it done, ask first if they have done it or if they were trained, I was told I was the first.
What a learning curve.....

I can't speak for all of it but the instructions state to leave the car running during the install, which takes 3 hours... so it will burn a lot of gas during the install.

Got my car back! Nav update complete:D The Rep was shocked on how long it took ( I was thinking in my head "I told you so"). Of course I'm going to check if they did the install correctly. They did! Map version is April 30, 2010, and all of my phonebook contacts are deleted.:D:D

Props to Walser Hyundai:cool:

As for the cooled seat problem, they had another Genesis in after I dropped mine off yesterday for a cooled seat problem, and the dealer stated they are aware of the issue and have contacted Hyundai's Engineers and opened a case with Hyundai.

Also, I'm glad to see the dealer do the correct procedure, and not run my engine the entire time, wasting my gas and adding engine wear. They did it right by hooking up a charger to the battery while performing the update.
I would have been pissed If they ran my engine the whole time, knowing that it doesn't take a genius to think of a charger/solution. Again, glad it was done right:)

I have been working on cars for the last 30 + years. You do not have to keep the car running.
How about leaving the ignition on the on position and have a battery charger connected to the car.
How about the damage it does the motor when it idles for 3 to 4 hours. Since air is not moving through the radiator to cool off the antifreeze. That the oil pressure is low at idle.

How about the heat on the catalysis converters?

They should think first, it is not their cars.
Would you like to keep your car idling for hours?
Gas ????
EPA ????

Not sure if you are refering to my post, but I feel I covered in my last post what you're concerned about in your quote, at least at my dealer.

Again to be clear - the dealer used a charger

Actually, the instructions state -

"The vehicle’s battery voltage must be stable during the S/W update. Either connect a battery charger to the vehicle or start and run the engine during the update(approximately 3 hours)."

scottdk, jchao was referring to his/her earlier post. The dealer left the car running and burned up mucho gas and didn't do the install properly.

Clearly there is wild variation in competency among the various Hyundai dealerships.
