Free Map Update Is Here!!!!!!!

Visited my dealer yesterday for another reason. While there, my favorate Genesis Technician told me that they have the discs for the update, and my car does fall within the promotion. Tech told me that they already did one Genesis (mine would be the second) and that a charger would be connected to the posts in the engine compartment so as not to run the engine the whole time. Also said that I will lose all the telephone, radio station and Navi address information. (I made a hard copy [read; wrote the info] of all the settings, and saved it for when the update is done).

Problem::: I had six discs (MP3CD's) in the disc player that have been in there for 18 months. Tech ejected one disc, and then the whole disc player froze up. Could not eject any of the five other discs, player would not play any of the music on the other discs, and would not accept the first disc when we tried to reload the player. Also tried to let the car sit for ten minutes or so for the whole system to "re-boot" but still would not work. Needless to say, you can't do the P06 update if you can't remove the discs that are in there, or load the promotion discs. Tech then ordered me a new disc player. Said even if we could now get the discs out, and the player starts working agian, he does not want to take a chance of installing the program P06 discs, and having the player freeze up again. They will call me when the new disc player comes in. Meanwhile, a half hour later, on my drive home, I would try try to get the disc player to work, and still could not do so. No music from the five discs still in there, and no eject or reload.

A few hours later, we went out to dinner. Switched to the CD Screen to try again, and;;;;; Yep, you got it. The player started to play the next disc that was still in there. After dinner, I ejected the five discs that were still in there.

I'm in no hurry to get the P06 done. The Tech or one of the Service Writers will phone me when the ordered disc player comes in. I already told them that I will be out of commission for the next couple weeks as I am being operated on next Wednesday, (should be home from hospital by Friday [I hope]) and my doctors don't want me driving for at least a week, even if I am feeling better. Told the Tech and Service Writers to hold the disc player when it arrives, and I will come in for the exchange and the P06 once I have recovered.

On a related subject. I've often said that I love my dealers Service Department, and that they "Treat Me Like A King". Got to thinking about that, and if I were going to buy another car today, or even if I had never bought a car there, but knew how good they treat their customers, (I'm talking Service, not sales), I would buy there again, even if I had to pay more for the car than elsewhere. I know this dealers Sales Department, that is 30 miles from me charges less than my closest dealers Sales Department which is 12 miles from me. BTW, my wife who was with me yesterday, spotted a 2011 4.6, White, with Tech, and she fell in love with it. Told her that "I'd think about it" for her, once I get out of the hospital, and back in action. (Hey, all it takes is Money <grin>).

Made an appointment with my Hyundai service center, which has always treated me great, for yesterday (Friday) for an oil change & P06 update as my car falls within the free timeframe. When I got to the service center, they told me they had not received the disks yet. When I asked when they would get them they said October. They aplogized profusely but said it was up to Hyundai to get the disks to them when they could.

After reading some of the experiences of others, I think they did me a favor. Perhaps Hyundai has stopped sending the disks until they fix the problems?

I hope he plans next time to attach the charger to the battery not the jump point under the hood... I know from experience the battery will NOT take a charge from the jump point under the hood...

That is what he told me, but I will ask (remind) him once I have recovered and get to the dealer again. (Yes, I trust this technician, and I can't say this about many technicians).

Got my car back! Nav update complete:D The Rep was shocked on how long it took ( I was thinking in my head "I told you so"). Of course I'm going to check if they did the install correctly. They did! Map version is April 30, 2010, and all of my phonebook contacts are deleted.:D:D

Props to Walser Hyundai:cool:

As for the cooled seat problem, they had another Genesis in after I dropped mine off yesterday for a cooled seat problem, and the dealer stated they are aware of the issue and have contacted Hyundai's Engineers and opened a case with Hyundai.

Also, I'm glad to see the dealer do the correct procedure, and not run my engine the entire time, wasting my gas and adding engine wear. They did it right by hooking up a charger to the battery while performing the update.
I would have been pissed If they ran my engine the whole time, knowing that it doesn't take a genius to think of a charger/solution. Again, glad it was done right:)

ScottDk: Funny - that was me that came in after you on Friday. I dropped it off at 9:00 am and they called me Friday afternoon to say that it wouldn't be ready until Saturday to pick it up because it was still on the first disk (not sure what time they started). Interesting thing is that I asked Roy to have them check on my cooled seat. He said they checked it against newer Genesis on the lot and mine actually cooled better. Never mentioned opening a case with Hyundai..

had the opportunity to use the Nav today... 2 changes I like...

1. The alternate route options have been increased from 2 to 4 and actually provide alternate routes.... (shortest time, shortest distance, min highway etc)..

By providing a REAL alternate route I avoiding coming down 94 tonight and ended up on MN 24 , A beautiful road... it was a nice drive thru lake country rather than sitting in traffic on the interstate..

2. If you had a long trip planned (couple hundred miles) and asked to find a place along the route (gas lodging etc) it would always find 0 hits... which was bogus... now it finds things correctly... Nice since I was on a road I didn't know and needed to plan a gas stop

Nice fixes....

Well, everything turned out GREAT!!!

The map update had my street on it...finally! (New Subdivision)

I think I received an air bag update, an ECM update, a tilt/telescope update, as well as a new radio control nob.

The cooled seat is still an issue, they are looking in to.

The rotate and balance was wonderful and my tires continue to roll like new!

The alignment was perfect and dead on. I can go for miles in a straight line and not touch the steering wheel at all!!!

I guess the BEST part is they must have tweaked the shift points in the tranny via an update and now the Genny doesnt shift down so fast. I can take the normal turns in my neighborhood and it will stay in 3rd gear rather than dropping down to 4th, then back to 3rd, then back to 4th...It just stays where I need it! Its like a new machine now! Also, I no longer get a sense of hesitation during acceleration! This is probably only noticed by me and I may be nuts on this! HA!

Good Job Hyundai!

I had previously posted that after the update I lost nothing and was questioning whether the dealer had really installed the updates. I checked the NAVI database and it is dated 4/30/2010. I'm surmising that if you have an older production car like an 09 it wipes everything because my 2010 lost absolutely nothing!

We 09 owners are getting more than a map update.. The entire NAV unit is being updated.. I assume it is to update to the same level as the 2010 software....

Here is a weird one for you! I just called University Hyundai of Decatur and mentioned the free map update for my Genny and they said just bring it in and they will update it whether its on the list or not!

He said they get paid whether they charge you or not. They said they have the disc's and they will work on any of the Genny's!

He said there is no way to track who gets the updates...so he's giving it to anybody!
.

Look at page 9 of the link that was posted on post #20 and you will see you have to call in the VIN and hardware ID to get a map authorization code. This is how they track the installs. The Vins that are under the recall are free to you and pay the dealership 1 hour labor but the ones that are not will cost the dealer. They only get paid for the vehicles with the recall. Map&soft has a dealer login and acount that is charged every time a non warranty vin is called in. So if this dealer is giving them out for free go for it now before they realize it will cost them money.

OH DEAR!!! Im glad I went on and got it....HA!!!

We never checked to see if my car fell in to the "freebie" category or not...and obviously, he never read the document...HA!

Since the update is for DIS-equipped cars only, it appears that those of us with touch screen are stuck with 2008 data on our 2010 cars. I pointed this out to the mis-named "Hyundai Consumer Affairs" area and the reply was: "Sorry. If we ever do an update for the touch screen nav you'll have to pay for it". Really makes me want to run out and buy an Equus. It's really frustrating because, aside from the bizarre attitude on the part of Hyundai USA, I really love the Genesis. I think the US folks are in need of some adult supervision from the mother country.

 Had my update installed about 10 days ago. The Dealer initially had difficulty getting the authorization code from MapNSoft. The update does wipe all your address and phonebook entries as well as reset your equlizer settings back to Flat. There is one interesting addition in that they've added a Random selection to the Ipod section so that your selections will play randomly. I've only tried it with one playlist so I'm not sure if it randomizes across all playlists or the entire catalog but I would think that it does. It can be found in the Settings section. I found that the loaner car I was given, a 2011 Sonata, has Bluetooth installed in it and I paired my cell with the system which is very easy to do. I found that the Voice Menu is a little more robust than in the '09 Genesis and maybe those with 2010 Genesis have a more updated Bluetooth system as well. The one feature that definitely stood out is that the Bluetooth version in the Sonata can access the phonebook on your cell as there is no phonebook storage capability with the radio. Whether that's true or not with the Navigation system I don't know as my loaner did not have that feature installed. I would think that the Genesis could be upgraded through firmware updates but I am not an expert in this area. I have asked Hyundai about this but have not received an answer to the question so far. All in all it's good to have the map upate but it shouldn't have to take 3 hrs to install nor wipe out all your entries every time you get an update.

Your dealer can Give a free Map update for some Navigation systems.

I took my 2009 Genesis to dealer today. The Mapnsoft updates are based on VIN# and some are at no charge and some are chargeable. My VIN# was not "on the list," and I am unclear what makes up this list, but my dealer said they could update my maps for $315 and a 3-hour appt. Hmmmm....

They also said Mapnsoft is contemplating issuing future map updates 2x year. I think they're still working all this out... I opted to wait until January and see what transpires as the upgrade (for me) is not critical. I'm more concerned about geting a good price on reinstating XM Satellite radio :D that expired this week. Sirius and XM merged and they don't seem to be offering any good deals. I'm going to see if I get a "'come back to us" offer soon ...

I received a 5 month deal for $20.00. It was a "Give us another try deal".
I still do not use it. Love my hard drive..

They had to keep mine over the weekend and I got a loner while they did the update. It is well worth it. They said it took 70 minutes per DVD. They complained that they only got paid 1 hour of tech time and they had to give me a loner car. They were complaining how it was all for a lousy map update. I replied that is was an overall improvement of the DIS. They did not believe me of course. Thanks Hyundai for stepping up to the place. Again, the local dealership knows very little about the Genesis.

I've spent 30 years in broadcasting...and never thought I'd say it but terrestrial radio has just about run me to the satellites. I've been a part of too many stations jumping formats just for a buck. And with so many announcers being put outta work and voice-track guys from other cities doing multi-stations, my mp3 and satellite lets me pinpoint just what I want to hear. We just up'd last month for the cheap 5 month deal. Just don't pay them with a card or personal check...they'll zap ya for the regular price without you realizing it...and then give you the runaround. I don't mind sending them a money order every 5 months or so. Sorry...think we got off topic here...

Hey Genny owners,

I just dropped my Genesis off for service at my closest Hyundai dealer and the service manager informed me that the map update is a ONE TIME FREE offer from Hyundai Motors Corp. So if you're dealer is trying to charge for the update, contact the regional district manager before spending a penny. They should also be offering an update to the ECM, if you haven't had the service performed.

Anyone knows if Canadian Hyundai has a similar offer?

Bless me Father for I have not posted. It's been a loooooong time :)

I did the navi update yesterday. Mine was covered. I took pics of all my favorites and settings before turning it over to the dealer. It made reload much more simple.

DISAPPOINTMENT- My home was built on a street added to our subdivision in 2005. You got it.... the 2010 update STILL doesn't have my street or home. Shhhheeeeesh.

LIGHTING GURUs- In the next few days, I'll be posting a trick I did to the fog lights turning them into really nifty running lights.

I STILL love my genny and STILL get lots of looks and STILL....
