If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just received a letter from Hyundai, dated October 1 (guess the mail is a little slow) offering a Complimentary Navigation Map Upgrade. I just have to bring the letter to the dealer. Normally I would do it, but a few months ago the computer went haywire and a question popped on the display asking if I wanted to allow navigation programming while the car is moving. I answered yes and ever since the co-pilot has been able to enter destinations while on the move. I am afraid I would loose that ability if I have the upgrade. I have a 2010 with tech package.

Hello Guys

I got the letter last week as well. I called my dealer and I got an appointment for this Friday.

Is this for the 2010 Models only?

I have always been able to enter Nav destinations while on the move both in my previous 2009 and in my current 2012. As far as I'm aware, this is normal.

Same here on both my 2010 and now 2012.

Well I did not get a letter either and am wondering about it. Today I did receive a Hyundai Promotional MarsteCard for $100, thanking me for my loyalty. I wonder if I'm suppose to use that for a nav update? I live in CT and have not noticed too many errors so I'm thinking about skipping it. I could always use my smartphone if I get stuck.

Dropped my 2010 at the dealer for the free map upgrade. It took 8 hours to finish the 17 CD update. The car had to idle for 8 hours. I told them that it was not acceptable to have the car idle for that long waiting for a map updates. They need to have a faster way to update the system. I am picking the car up today and will let you know my impressions of the new updates.

You're correct about this being unacceptable. When my dealer did my update a while back they put a charger on the battery. Seems like common sense to me, but common sense isn't so common these days.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan R-spec and I belong to the Hyundai Think Tank. Below is a recent post I put on the site pertaining to the software:

I love the car and this is my 1st Hyundai. I agree the Navigational software must be updated ASAP to current customers via update. Because my unit forces me to input the street 1st before the city for example "Main Street" the current system then shows over a hundred possibilities of all nearby towns and cities, and I do not have time to scroll through each one to maybe get the correct one for my destination.

Now if the City is programmed prior to the street in the software for destination choices this would narrow the choices down to one or two thus making the system usable. Please Hyundai show your support for current owners and send a update down the pipeline to our service centers so I can truly enjoy my new 2012 Hyundai!!

I understand for model year 2013 the navigational has been improved as this is a known issue allowing state / city / street input in said order. Knowing that please take care of your existing customer base. This will inspire future sales from the largest sales base, which of course is current and prior Hyundai owners. I have contacted Hyundai and their mapping 3rd party software provider and also sent e-mails to no avail for months now. Thank you in advance!!!

PS: I have discovered a temporary work around to input the city prior to the street via the voice recognition software. I will out lay the steps below. But please understand that the software still must have an update to use the DIS to input city prior to street.

1) Press voice button on the steering wheel (you do not have to be in the navi screen).

2) Say exactly "Enter City"

3) Say your City for your destination choice.

4) Then you will be allowed to enter your street, after you press the voice button again, or press down on the DIS knob. (Do not use the voice function)

5) Then you will be prompted to enter the house or business number, after you press the voice button again or press down on the DIS knob. (Do not use the voice function)

6) Now here is where it gets tricky, if you just say enter at this point or press down on the DIS you will have to start all over and become frustrated, so follow step 7 exactly below.

7) Looking at the options now on screen you must say exactly what it shows and says, after you press the voice button or when prompted by the software say exactly " Start Route Guidance".

My prior vehicle was a 2006 Toyota Prius fully loaded and the Navi in that vehicle was 100 times better than my 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan R-Spec. Sad especially since my current vehicle is 6 years newer and cost twice as much.

So lastly we need a campaign TSB to the service centers at the dealerships to update our units with State / City / Street operation on the DIS without forcing the customer to jump tall buildings using the voice recognition software that should also be updated as well.

My wife enters the destinations, and it is always while I'm driving. Never tried to enter one when we weren't moving.

Have you had a situation where the nav cannot recognize the city after entering the street name? I cannot get the nav to recognize my city name by typing it in or by using your voice procedure. I did manage to set my home address using the map feature.

I have emailed a query to MNSOFT and also to the dealer as my Genny was just delivered 12-3-2012 and should not have this type of error.

If there is a way to find the version or date of release of the installed map I haven't found it yet.

for version info, open the settings menu when in the navigation mode.

I just completed the map update 9.5 that was released on 12/7/2015. I completed the update myself in less than 40 minutes. I was told that my dealer never did version updates prior to new car delivery. I bought my Genesis 5.0 Ultimate on April 3, 2015. The version on my car was 6.5. After being rerouted around traffic onto a dead end street I looked for an update. The cost of the update from MapNSoft was $219, but take heart. The install is extremely easy. Install instructions are included in the kit along with a new SD card with the new firmware and a USB stick with the update files. The changes since 6.5 are substantial. The install instructions are on the website so you can see how easy the install is and MapNSoft will tell you the current version is to help you decide update timing.

How do I find the Nav map version?. I have a 2015 Genesis. The navigation is not as good as my Garmin.

Per a prior poster - for version info, open the settings menu when in the navigation mode.

And, as someone who has also used a Garmin nav system I think it is far better in the user interface mode. I don't drive the Genny but 4,000 miles per year and very rarely try using the nav system since I know my area pretty well. It does seem overly complex however and I would not buy it as a standalone feature.

One other poor feature is the tilt of the screen. Here in the desert you have to be facing the sun to see the screen. Any other angle is washed out by the sun making it useless.

After using the Navigation system for a couple of weeks, I have found changes to be minor for Southern California roads. There was only one occasion where the "junction view" showed HOV lanes as the MapNsoft description shows. Care must still be taken to avoid misdirection to sites. Often business addresses are misleading, and not the fault of the navigation system. If the street address is entered as "street" when it should be avenue or place, it may not be found. Mapquest, for example will show alternatives. After using a BMW system for 2 years, the Hyundai system is still superior. I will not spend $215 for another update unless changes are more substantial.

Just updated mine to the latest version 9.5 or 08.47.44.552. Paid $177 shipped.
This definitely is a huge upgrade for me from the previous version (at least 4 behind) and I purchased the car new in Oct 2013.
N Dallas is booming with new businesses and homes and so are the new roads and highways.
Now I at least can see where I'm going. :)
