  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The September 2009 Motor-Trend, (new car buyer's guide) says;

In its second year, the Genesis adds smart cruise control, which keeps the vehicle at a set time/distance from the car ahead, and an electronic parking brake. Touch-screen nav is new. Bluetooth connectivity has been expanded, and ultra premium leather now comes standard on more models. Note that the one-year complimentary subscription to Sirius XM Satellite Radio with NavTraffic has been reduced to a 90-day trial.

I don't know how they know this information. I like the idea of the "Electronic Parking Brake" if it is like the one in my Continental. (I push the brake down with my foot, but it releases when I put the car in Drive). I still would rather have a hand operated parking brake that sits next to the seat.

As for the "Touch-Screen Nav Unit", I hope not! Although I'm not trading my 09 for a 10, I find that I like the Navi unit as is, much better than the Touch-Screen unit. My previous car had the Touch-Screen unit, and when I first purchased the Genesis, I did not like the Genesis unit, now however, I LIKE THE SYSTEM IN THE GENESIS MUCH BETTER THAN THE TOUCH-SCREEN. All it takes is to learn how to use it. The Touch-Screen gets filthy dirty. The areas of the screen that you touch most often wears out the coating on the screen. I was constantly cleaning the screen. I've never had to clean the Genesis screen. My buddy has a Touch-Screen Navi in his car and that screen if full of finger prints, and dirt and crud and five minutes after he cleans it, it gets filthy again at the first touch.

JMHO

When I was 1st considering buying the Genesis I almost considered waiting until the 2010's came out since it was only going to be a few months.

Now that I have seen some the new features of the 2010, I'm glad I didn't wait since none of the new features are significant enough for me to have waited, and since the Genesis has been doing so well and getting great reviews, I'm sure the price tag will surely start to creep up as well.

There are some minor annoyances with this current model that I hope they correct in the next couple of model years like continued power for 10 mins after the car is shut off and a 12V receptacle in the back seat area, but other then those, I am quite happy with my "2009 Car of the Year" :D

Bob,

This has been covered before in a couple threads. The touch-screen nav is a new addition and represents a separate trim level. It does not replace the Nav system that comes as part of the tech package.

Models from highest to lowest (at least on the V6, I know the V8 comes w/ everything included on the Premium & Premium Plus Package):

-Base model
-Premium Pkg. (nicer leather, sunroof, 14 speaker Lexicon audio, etc.)
-Premium Plus Pkg. (18" wheels)
-Premium NAV Pkg. (Touch screen Nav system)
-Tech Pkg. (replaces touch screen Nav w/ the controller controlled Nav unit and adds 17 speaker Lexicon Audio, adaptive cruise, cooled drivers seat, electronic brake, adaptive HIDs, etc.)

/agree

As far as the nav systems, I have a feeling that the Logic7/DIS/Nav will remain in its current form until the mid-gen refresh. And the touch-screen nav will remain separate and be the common nav system for all models below the Genesis. My guess is that they will both converge in a Microsoft SYNC package in the 2012-13 timeframe. Gives them enough time to get their value out of the current nav units and rollout a nationwide network for Mozen in the U.S.

I have had a local dealer tell me that he has a 2010 Genesis sedan. I asked three times are you sure it is a 2010 sedan and not a 2009? I also made sure several times that he wasn't talking about the 2010 coupe.

I have not been able to personally confirm this yet. All I know is as of yesterday I couldn't locate any using autotrader or cars.com.

I can't wait to test drive several to see if I notice a suspension improvement.

A dealer will tell you anything to get you in the door. Seeing as how it is a LOCAL dealer, why not pop over and take a look. If it is a 2010, let us know.

I had salesman at a dealer tell me on the phone they had Platinum V6 in stock. He was on his cell phone while talking to me and said he was in the lot looking at the car while we were talking. So a few hours later I drove 25 miles to see it. When I got there the salesman who was on the phone with me a few hours before was not available, and another salesman told me that they did not have such a car in stock, and they had not sold any Genesis vehicles in the last few days.

Hate to say this, but you almost have to hang up and call back to get another salesperson to verify. This isn't foolproof either. But may work, especially when you are driving a good distance. And of course, the person you talked to originally is nowhere to be found! Got to love it!

Radar cruise control would be very nice addition to my Genny. :/ I don't care about other features.

I was wondering if I was going to regret buying my 2009 a week ago, knowing the 2010 would be out shortly. But, thanks to you, I'm glad I went ahead and purchased. I am loving my car. The only thing that would make me wished I would have waited was if the price was dropped, and I don't think that is too likely.

Nope...the price is actually supposed to go up a few hundred dollars IIRC.

With the number of magazines that have mentioned the Genesis suspension, it would seem that there are no suspension changes coming in 2010. It would seem to me that this would be mentioned.

There is no re-design of the suspension. Just an adjustment of the spring and shock rates, and slighly different bushings. This information is not supplied to the media in normal press releases, but it was revealed by a Hyundai employee on the Hyundai Think Tank website. I was told the same in more general terms about 5 months ago by a very senior executive of HMA that tuning changes were being made to the 2010 suspension.

But you already know all that.

I agree, I think the radar cruise control is an excellent feature, but could care less for the electronic parking brake.

The radar cruise control was originally slated for the 2009 Genesis but they ran out of time tweaking a few bugs prior to launch. That makes me wonder if this is a simple "add on" for the 2009 Geneiss. Any insights?

Well gosh thanks for the comments that despite my age some think I was born yesterday.

Of course I know you can't believe what a salesman tells you!

That is why I said that I haven't been able to confirm that the dealership has a 2010 Genesis sedan.

While the dealership is local it is still 60 miles from me and yes I will check in to it when I get time this weekend.

But you know the old saying buisness before pleasure? This weekend is the soonest that I can get to it.

The only reason that I mentined it here was that if there is one 2010 Genesis sedan out there then there would be others.

I figured I would have an answer way before I went to the dealership this weekend about if they are out yet.

Also I was only sharing information that I was told right or wrong.

Re: Electronic Parking Brake. I already stated how the Parking Brake works in my Continental. Now I'll tell you about the Full Electronic Parking Brake (My words) in the Renault Laguna II (Great Car) that I always lease (not Rent) on my visits to France.

I always lease a Manual Transmission, and the last Renault Laguna's Full Electronic Parking Brake was so "automatic" that there was not even a lever to activate it. When I would park the car, and shut the engine off (start/stop button), I would hear the quick buzz of the parking brake engaging. When I would start the car (start/stop button), put the car in low gear, as I would start to let up on the clutch, I would hear the quick buzz of the parking brake dis-engaging.

Worked great, EXCEPT when at a stoplight, on a hill, where I would normally hold the car with the hand/parking brake. I don't like to "slip the clutch" to hold it on a hill, so I'd have to be very quick and smooth removing my foot from the brake, to the gas, and let out the clutch at the same time, so the car would not roll back into the car behind me.

I agree, I think the radar cruise control is an excellent feature, but could care less for the electronic parking brake.

My '06 Passat had it, and I never used it. Illinois is pretty flat and there isn't a need with an auto tranny.
It also had the Electronic Hold feature that wasn't used either, so I don't regard either as an "improvement" for the Gen.

Now Remote Window Lowering is an option I'd pay for!
