  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front license plate

I got my gv80 a couple of weeks back, first thing I did was remove the license plate bracket and get a smaller plate. Got it mounted using a strong 3M double sided tape (industrial grade).

This is pretty much the only method anyone uses in my country to install a slim plate on the body directly.

Nice. Don't think this would work with the NYS plates. Just eyeballing it but I think that standard NYS plates are taller.

I did the following by turning the supplied bracket upside down and attaching with wire ties. Not ideal but better than covering the grill.

As long as that's at least 12" from the ground, you're in the clear (Violation Codes, Fines, Rules & Regulations - NYC.gov/Finance). I wonder if the same approach will work in the GV80, as I thought I heard in one of the YT reviews that it has some sensors down there.
Its about 10 inches above the ground and not blocking any sensors that I am aware of and it has been there since day one. I guess I will take my chances on getting pulled over the 2 inches LOL. Definitely looking for other ideas...

Just to update. I have tried both the slybracket and the EOS Hyundai plate. Slybracket sets off sensors and EOS doesn’t even fit the tow hook. If anyone has any success with anything other than the supplies genesis bracket please let me know.

Also a NY’er and looking for a solution. So far I’ve found Sly Brackets - No-drill Front License Plate Bracket Holder Mounts For All Car Types - East To Install - No Holes - No Drills but that doesn’t eliminate the problem. Wish they’d just drop the front plate requirement altogether.
I love the grill on my 2019 G80 Sport but the license plate spoiled it. I tried the bracket that screwed into the tow port. It blocked a parking sensor and kept going off and didn't look great. I now use the Sly Bracket and its much better, but agree, I wish they'd just remove the requirement. I wonder if it will fit the GV80, I hope to get next year.

I have the GV80. The slybracket does not work. It sets off the sensors

does the GV80 have a threaded tow hook on the front like the sedans?

if it does you can mount it there; hundreds of options on amazon and ebay for that:

have to have one in CA as well, personally i don't.. its a $25 fix it ticket, but I haven't had an issue in 30 years. never put front plates on my car, ruins the look. Wish I could get rid of the rear as well..
Ditto in CT. The plate really changes the esthetics. I opted not to mount mine on the front of my 2018 G80 sport. Funny, the dealership gave me the option since they recognized the detraction of a plate on the vehicle. Never cited or questioned...yet!

Did anyone find a solution to moving the front license plate off the grille of the GV80 without setting off sensors? The front grille is one of the main reasons why I purchased this vehicle and it just really ruins the look of the front.

No. Nothing has worked

I think I might have to risk getting pulled over because I cannot live with the license plate smack dead center of the grille. That is such a design flaw which I cannot live with.

It is a terrible flaw

I read that you said the front license plate tow attachment you got does not fit. Do you think a license plate tow attachment that fits would set the sensors off?

I tried that. It didn’t work for me

One problem is there is no federal mandate so no standardization. If you designed a front bumper with a plate recess it looks like crap where none is required. No matter where it is, front plates look terrible.
Simple solution: I put up with it for 57 years and moved to a state that does not require them.

I'm resigning myself to settle for the same approach, once I get my permanent plates. It'll pinch as I walk up to the car and then it won't matter once I'm inside because I'll be too distracted by the cabin. At least, that's what I'm telling myself.

I read somewhere today that Ohio recently passed legislation to remove the front plate requirement, but I can't imagine engaging the political machinery required to accomplish such a thing in New York.
