  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've had a few issues with my radio including a few freeze ups that required using the reset. I also have the issue that I previously reported where the HD Radio in the dash display always shows one sub channel higher than the actual radio display. i.e. Tune to 105.9 HD1, and the radio shows that, but the dash cluster shows HD2.

The dealer has determined that they need to swap the radio. They say there is no stand alone firmware upgrade. I know that there is a new map version with new firmware, but Hyundai won't authorize that, and perhaps that would not fix the issue.

I was planning to wait this out, but the Service Manager let me know that the radio froze during their diagnosis, so I went ahead and authorized the swap.

He also told me that the swap is pretty easy, and I don't need to worry about "ripping the dash apart"

If you've had a radio changed out under warranty, let me know your experience.

I thought the radio was part of the entire "head unit" that included the nav system. That's about a $6,000 unit. The dealer replaced mine due to a nav system failure. After I found out the cost, I purchased the 10 year Hyundai warranty that covers the electronics. The 15 Genny has a 3 year warranty on the infotainment electronics while the 16 has a 5 year warranty. I would certainly prefer that the radio and nav were separate units.

The radio/nav unit is indeed one assembly. Physically it's part of the CD slot/radio button panel you see in the dash, but extends further down when it's pulled out. Thankfully it's not part of the touch screen. It looks easy enough to remove without tearing anything up.

Yes to clarify, they will replace the entire unit. I was somewhat relieved that they don't have to do major surgery on the dash.
Also - I'm on a 3 yr lease, so no need for the extended warranty.

mine says HD 2 also In the dash.

What package do you have? Base, Signature, Tech, or Ultimate?

(I just noticed... V8, so for V8 Base and Ultimate are the 2 packages IIRC, and the Base is similar to the Tech on V6 Models)

OK - you have the same AVN 4.5 unit - same for all non-Ultimate cars.
I never got responses for other uses with TECH, but this seems to confirm that any G2 with AVN 4.5 likely has the same HD +1 display issue in the dash cluster.

I am in the process of getting the radio swapped out. (Driving a 2016 Azera loaner.. not too bad, and it does not have this issue)

I would not have swapped if this was my only radio issue, but I also had a few freeze-ups and glitches that tipped the decision to swap the radio.

I'm not betting that a new head unit will actually fix the HD Radio display issue. More likely this is software driven.

if enough people complain maybe there will be TSB and software update in the near future..

i know with my KIA Optima there was a software update last year and the dealer can check to see base on model... its not a deal breaker but they should match in each section dash and radio... i think the radio is great so far.. the surround sound is pretty cool...
