  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 2.0T 6MT Owner - Has anyone else with this noticed?

Anyone else having clutch issues with the manual Genesis?
The 2019 G70 is my first manual car, and the dealership is telling me I need a new clutch. I looked up symptoms of a bad clutch but my car doesn't seem to be having those problems.

^ no problems here after ~23k kms. pretty easy to diagnose if a new clutch is needed. are you getting slippage or loss of acceleration under heavy throttle? did you ask the dealer for their diagnosis or report any problems to them? or are they telling you this unsolicited?

bottom line - if you are having no issues related to clutch engagement or driveability then don't worry about it. you will have a reasonable warning period ahead of needing to replace the clutch. it's not something that goes out over night. kinda like brakes: there is a certain amount of friction material which wears out over an extended period for most people. you'd have to be really hard on the car to burn out a clutch in a short time. not saying that's impossible, but if you are a sensible driver with decent clutch operation skill you should see many miles of service life out of a clutch.

Hey I am at around 20K on my clutch on my 2021 G70, no problems here. Although when I was at my dealer a while back they mentioned that someone had brought in their G70 to get their clutch replaced. According to the dealer they said the driver was riding the clutch and it got burned out. The customer claimed to be driving standard since the early 90s made a pretty big deal about it (rightfully so, as its a brand new car). Take that for what you will, but Genesis Canada ended up replacing the entire assembly for the customer (this is all according to what my dealer told me).

I see. Well, I also claim to not ride the clutch 😅 The dealership told me they could not tell what the cause was. Either way, it's covered by warranty up to 100k miles so they say if it happens again I won't have to pay. But if it happens again, I'll probably get rid of it.

^ hmm, are you talking about replacement of the friction disc due to wear? or is there some other mechanical issue that require the replacement of a clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, flywheel, or all of the above? i'm unclear on what components were worn or defective.

my guess is this is not due to clutch disc wear - that is not covered by warranty (like brake pads). if there was a failure of a separate component that would make more sense.

please provide a bit more info on what was done. if you can, attach a screenshot of the workorder showing parts descriptions.

I actually don't know much about cars (sorry), and all they told me was the clutch is going out. They're working on it next week so I'll update you with the paperwork once I get it. I'll be sure to ask them to explain it in detail. Thank you for responding 😊

Hey, thanks for responding! This is what I told the dealership I was bringing it in for; The only symptom it's having is in 3rd gear and up, when I try to speed up quickly, the rpms reach almost 3k before dropping back down to 2k, then it continues back up like nothing happened. This doesn't happen when I speed up slowly, and I haven't noticed anything in 1st or 2nd gear. I wish they had given me more detail when I asked if they think it's the way I'm driving. They said they couldn't tell. Only feedback I've ever heard from passengers is my brother said I drop the clutch too quickly back when I bought the car 2 years ago.
They're fixing it next week, so I'll post again when I find out more.

^ interesting. it'll be good to see the workorder screenshot once the work is complete. tough to say if there is a gearbox failure or if this is just a wear issue. but since the work is being done under warranty (i think that is the case) we'll probably see parts other than just the clutch disc.

your symptoms sounds like it is some issue other than the clutch disc wear. you'd most likely see wear slippage in 1st and 2nd gears due to torque transfer while trying to accelerate quickly. or if you are doing hill starts and not getting proper clutch engagement in 1st.

pro tip: if i was you i'd pay for a replacement clutch disc while the dealer has the gearbox out for the repairs. the disc is cheap and you'll save all the labour of dropping the gearbox which is most of the cost anyways. piece of mind knowing you have a new clutch plate and it will help with resale.

Dunno if this is what OP was referring to, but the 2.0T's torque band doesn't start until past 2000RPM. The 8AT deals with this easier. With a 6MT, you'll have to spool the RPM and slip the clutch a bit on launch to get past that sub 2000RPM lull. I might do that at AutoX, but it is rather pointless for everyday driving.

Realistically though, in our G70 6MT, I don't notice the soft spot down low in 1st gear, as it doesn't stay there for very long at all. And for daily driving, I'm more concerned about being smooth on clutch take up, than all out performance off the line. Don't short shift, and you'll never see it in 2nd gear and up.

Looking for some sharp eyes! After a successful install of a block heater from the dealer, I got home to take a look at the wiring job. Unfortunately noticed something else completely! Has anyone else noticed a leak from the same area? My car currently has approx. 20K on it. Not sure if I should wait for it to become more noticeable before taking it back to the dealer and going through warranty just wanted to get a second opinion. Engine Leak.webp

I have something similar on the other side (next to the alternator).

Not sure I'm seeing anything. Looks dry to me. I would do an engine cleaning first, then you will be better able to spot any new fluid appearing on the freshly clean engine and identify what it might be.

Hi everyone, I’ve noticed something really weird that I have not experienced in any other manual car before. When going WOT in 3rd gear the car seems to have a significant hesitation/studder where it is struggling to get into boost/ put the power down. You can feel the entire chassis shaking. Does anyone have any suggestions on what this issue maybe or have any prior experience with this? Currently the car is on winter tires, there are no modifications to the car.

Here’s an update - engine light came on. Code P0303 - cylinder 3 misfire. I’ve attached two photos of the spark plug. The insulator seems to be “burnt”. But I checked all the other plugs and they seem to be the same …

From what can be seen in that angle, the plugs look pretty normal. The brown ring is normal.

Plug 3 on the left is where the code is coming from. Plug 2 on the right is “normal”
Strange, in that pic, side-by-side with the other plug, the strap almost looks new and shiny. Like it doesn't get as much wear. Might be a coil issue? If it's still under warranty, just take it in. If it's not, for any reason, you gotta troubleshoot. Switch plugs and see if it follows the plug, then switch coils and see if it follows the coil. It should be pretty easy to find.

The "stealership" tried to tell me that my clutch has gone out and that is why I am getting a misfire. Please just take a second to reread that. LOL. Anyways its fixed under warranty but what a joke.

Haha, they didn't try to sell you a bridge, did they?
